Killers of the Flower Moon on Apple TV.

Scorcese is great. Movie is 3 and a half hours long but Marty is nevertheless still the man. They don't make movies like this anymore and once he's gone that's going to be the end of it.

It definitely feels like he's the old master, and his inevitable absence will leave a void. On the bright side, he's not the actual last autuer filmmaker out there. You still have Tarantino, Coen Brothers, Spike Lee, Wes Anderson, David Lynch, Park Chan-Wook, Christopher Nolan, Paul Thomas Anderson, Charlie Kaufman, etc. You are correct that this group is overwhelmingly older though.

Robert Eggers I would say is a promising young auteur director, though he's not had nearly the financial impact as the others. I think Denis Villeneuve is another great director, and I'm just as excited to see what he will do after Dune as I am to see him to close the trilogy.

Movies and how we consume them has certainly changed, especially post pandemic, though the movement began prior.

I have enjoyed going back to the theater in the last year or so. I enjoy seeing a movie on the big screen, the popcorn, etc. Certain films you just have to see on the big screen anyway.

You are right, though. Tarantino, the Coens and Nolan typically make films I enjoy.

Add Damien Chazelle, Ari Aster, and Bong Joon-ho.

What is the difference between a filmmaker and an auteur?

Auteur Theory: The Definitive Guide to the Best Auteur Directors

While the auteur definition in french is literally “author”, in the dictionary it now reads: “An auteur is a filmmaker whose individual style and complete control over all elements of production give a film its personal and unique stamp.”

Re-watched Weekend in Review......

The Horse Soldiers. Strong cast with William Holden, John Wayne and Constance Towers.

Blood Father with Mel Gibson and William Macy.

Stillwater with Matt Damon.

The Family with Deniro, Tommy Lee Jones and Michelle Pfeifer (still hot) was pretty good. Mob boss and family in witness protection. Not sure how I missed it when it first came out but worth the watch.

Equalizer 3 with Denzel. Not bad considering it's #3. Those third takes usually fall pretty short.

Taylor Sheridan rocks. I’m sure you have, but if you haven’t go watch Hell or High Water right away.
Actually, I had not seen it before. I took your rec and watched it last night. What a great movie! Sheridan took a low-key approach to most of it and it had a very real feel to it. I thoroughly enjoyed it, so thanks for the recommendation.

Went old school Sunday morning and watched a couple of 50's Sci-Fi movies, Mars The Red Planet and Godzilla King of the Monsters.

Jesse Plemons is so good.
The wife and I just finished watching the Friday Night Lights series (she had never seen it); quite the contrast in characters he portrayed between Landry ("Lance," lol) Clark and this role. He's definitely expanded his range tremendously over the years.

I was excited to see him in Killers of the Flower Moon. Good for him.

My assumption is it’s the same reason the new top gun didn’t name the bad guys as Russians or Iranians.

I saw Maverick finally. Very good. Great scenes in the air. I thought they did pretty good with humour whereas the original struggled with that.

The Dry - an Australian crime drama with Eric Banna was pretty good.

I will never not be confused by people dropping the Top Gun title because my mind goes straight to this classic.

If you like fun Westerns and havent seen it, you should watch it. Lots of good actors having fun and especially cool to see Jodie Foster play a very "girly" character and realize she can do it really well.

Good movie. Maverick the TV show with James Garner and Jack Kelly as his brother is pretty solid. More light hearted.

Rudy. It had probably been 3 or 4 years since I watched it.
He made a good TFL in practice on that massive back wearing number 33 and blew up Vince Vaughn on a play.

Watched Condors Nest on Prime. Thought it might be good as it's about a Nazi hunter in South America.
Bad script. Check
Bad directing. Check
Bad acting. Check
