my 2 year old watches the sound of music haha

Do you let them watch the part where the Nazis take the lovable hotel manager out of the train and murder him? Whitetext for spoilers. Scenes like that made me think it's not best for kids

Finally checked out Fences with Denzel.

Pretty solid flick. Though it brought me a lot of different and confusing feelings.

Did Denzel's guy want his boy to protect his boy from being let down or was he afraid of him being successful?

Pacific Rim: Uprising

I thought it was a pretty good sequel, maybe better than the original in terms of strength of narrative and action sequences, as far as "giant robots vs giant aliens" goes.

You're not asking for an Academy Award-worthy film when you go to see giant robots fight giant monsters... you're asking for giant robots to fight giant monsters. And that's what the movie gives you, but with a bit of a twist.

John Boyega in this was a better lead than Charlie Hunnam in the original, and Scott Eastwood and Cailee Spaeny give the co-star cast more depth than the original, where it was just Idris Elba, basically.

Charlie Day and Burn Gorman get more face time as the crazy doctors, but it felt kind of forced compared to the first film.

I think it was a better film than the original, and the final act was stronger than the first film's, mostly because the narrative was surprisingly strong for the genre.

10/10, would recommend if you like giant robots battling giant monsters.

Since I like movies where giant monsters struggle with giant robots, do you think there is the possibility that I might like a movie where giant robots fight giant monsters instead?

Interesting. While it was a shocking moment it wasn't really filmed particularly violently. It was the matter-of-fact nature of the act that I remember from that scene. I think that sort of scene could work better for a kid than others, because it didn't really dramatize the moment. I don't think I would object to my kids watching that movie more than I would be worried that it would be wasted on them because the emotional tone it attempts to hit isn't something that a little kid is going to really understand. "And so goes life" isn't really a message that's going to land because they just don't have that concept yet.

Then again, I watched Predator with my dad when I was 8 so I'm probably not the best for knowing what is considered age appropriate. Those skinned alive guys were gave little Grey a preeeeetty good scare.

The genres are obviously gonna have some glaring differences, but I think someone of your intellectual capacity can handle the jump.

Finally saw "Sciario". Although it was a sanitized version (FX) what a great movie. Can't wait for the new one to come out.

Watched The Greatest Showman the other day. It was pretty entertaining but I felt like it moved too fast. Young Nuke would never have watched a musical. Guess all that changed when I got married. Now I like musicals and theater. Crazy the power vaginas have over a man.

In addition, when I first heard of Zac Efron I thought I would hate him, but he's actually becoming one of my favorite actors. He's not necessarily a very good actor, but he's definitely entertaining and has a lot of charisma.

What? You didn't like Singin' in the Rain? I loved it as a kid

So you like musicals and think Zac Efron is charismatic?

People on Twitter are doing a Disney and Pixar movies bracket, and they're doing it all wrong. Make your predictions in the official Wiz bracket.

https://challonge.com/WizDisneyBracket

Missed the cut:

Make Mine Music
Fun and Fancy Free
Saludos Amigos
The Three Caballeros
Melody Time
The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad
Chicken Little
Brother Bear
Oliver & Company
Atlantis: The Lost Empire
Robin Hood

If enough people participate, I'll use my own ratings as the "official" score and advance one round at a time to declare a winner.

You guys suck. Nobody has done a bracket besides my wife and my three year old. It's great fun for the dinner table.

I was tempted, but I decided not to because there's no suitable authority involved to settle these disputes.

That would be me. Everyone has their lane. If we ever run a bracket of most problematic enlightenment philosophers from the perspective of medieval Catholic theology, you can be the judge.

Just made a bracket because I'm at work with nothing better to do. Surprised Frozen is ranked so low. Lion King too.

Made one. From your match-up choices and the movies you cut, I'm sure you'll disagree with some of my picks. And as usual, you'll be wrong.

Have you seen Walther's article re the Top 20 Disney Movies, wiz?

I too created one. If the selected film does not win, I'll plan a march in Washington.

Toy Story sneaks past Beauty and the Beast.

Toy Story vs The Lion King was a tougher call tbh.

Currently have five entries. I'll run the bracket this afternoon if anyone else wants to get in.
