The Postman Always Rings Twice will be on TCM Tuesday at noon. John Garfield and Lana Turner are great in the original. Highly recommend it.

Jeez, you ARE an old fart, aren't you!

Or a young fart with good taste?

Just saw The Beguiled and thought it was excellent. Slow buildup with a satisfying climax and conclusion. It felt like watching a novel in the best possible sense. I had read beforehand that there was some big "twist" that's not to be spoiled, but it never really came. Still a very good film, I just wish I hadn't been watching for the twist at the end.

The Big Sick was good. Just a little lengthy but kept me laughing all the way through.

Had that same experience, just not with a movie.

Watched USS Indianapolis: Men of Courage. As great of a true story that it is, the movie was very disappointing. Would have liked for them to delve into the "secrecy" of the mission a little more. Seems like Cage mailed this one in. I used to enjoy his films. I don't know if it's his financial problems or what affecting him, but his acting has really slid backwards.

That movie was awful. Had more in common with a monster movie like Anaconda than a historical piece.

It's not just his acting, Cage has been in "I'll take anything for a paycheck" mode for years now because of his financial trouble. I hope he bounces back and starts doing some quality movies again. The guy is too talented to be relegated to glorified direct-to-video garbage.

"My name is Irish#1. I love cinema. My favorite movies are Citizen Kane and The Boondock Saints."

Citizen Kane was okay, but I didn't get as much out of it as the critics did. Never saw The Boondock Saints.

I wasn't brought up on B&W films, so I'm not sure what attracted me to them. I try to catch one either Saturday or Sunday morning before the wife gets out of bed. Maltese Falcon is probably my favorite. Don't care too much for anything made around 1931 or before. Quality seems to take a step up in 1932 & 1933.

LeBeouf playing JMac sits poorly with me....

Me too. Almost kills the movie for me. Can a raging snowflake embody Tennis's ultimate bad boy? He's got the raging down I guess.

I'd love to here JMac's take on the whole thing.

https://www.theguardian.com/film/2016/sep/22/john-mcenroe-shia-labeouf-biopic-tennis-bjorn-borg

article from 2016. he was never consulted on the film for his input

i lol'ed at this though

McEnroe said that psychologically, LaBeouf could be a good fit – “Supposedly he’s crazy, so maybe that works” – but that he was concerned that physically he would struggle to convince. Both he and Gudnason, said McEnroe, “look like actors who can’t play. You see these guys, they go out there and they barely even know how to play tennis.”

I saw Dunkirk in 70mm last night.

Totally worth it

Can't wait,

it'll be the first movie I go to see in theaters in years (meaning first movie I WANT to go see, and not just going as a good husband or father).

I have high hopes for this one. I love a good mystery/crime/psych thriller film

Just saw Dunkirk at Imax. INTENSE!

My wife's friend didn't like it. "It had no plot."

I watched "Star Trek: Beyond." It was entertaining and kept moving but I think it's time to retire the reboot. Outside of the thrill ride aspects, the filmmakers don't seem to know what to do with the characters besides play them for laughs or cheap emotional moments.

Watched "Keeping up with the Jones". Pretty entertaining comedy. John Hamm is a pretty good actor.
