So what happens when Harbaugh is gone and the new DC has no room for Elston?

Looks like Elston didn’t think this one through.

Considering Clinkscale is going to be Co-DC regardless, it would seem the most likely is Elston does get Co-DC as well. That or a new hire won’t be a full control flush other staff out type hire.

They might promote Mike Hart to head coach if Harbaugh leaves. Which case a lot of the staff would stay.

Regardless of what was happening with Harbaugh, my guess is the Fiesta Bowl debacle led to a rift between MF and Elston. Even if it didn't, I'm sure he saw the writing on the wall that there was no future DC position for him going to come in South Bend. Might as well head to the ol' alma mattar and enjoy coming home.

If he ends up out at scUM my guess is he returns to Kelly in LSU as an analyst or something until they lose a LB or DL coach.

Mike Elston is no longer employed at ND and Michigan doesn't come back onto the schedule until 2033, at which time I doubt he's still at Michigan. Nor will Harbaugh be.

They can all kick rocks for all I care.

They will do something emotional like promote the crying guy. That’s who the fanbase wants.

*l don’t care to learn his name. The jackass who cried like Harbaugh was a political prisoner after beating Penn State

Sherron Moore? The OC?

Pretty sure he's a very well-respected OC, is he not? Unless implicated in the cheating scandal, which would lead to his dismissal, I can totally see him getting the opportunity. His crying bit was possibly one of the most lame things I've ever seen, but Michigan loves him and he helped perpetuate the "us against the world" bullshit.

The best thing that can happen going forward regarding Michigan is their staff getting annihilated, loss of schollies, and post season ban. Vacating all of these wins and the championship won't do shit for anyone and won't prevent something like this from happening again. No one cares about the asterisks at the end of records or on trophies.

Sherrone Moore should do right by himself and explore other options. His first head coaching job could be a program that's just won a National Championship that's about to get nailed with probation and sanctions. Not the best start down your career path as a head coach.

There is also a distinct possibility that Michigan will be replacing every starter but TE on offense and the entire defense besides Will Johnson and Mason Graham. They're at best returning 6 starters total. They've done near nothing in the portal. Sounds awful for a first time HC when you combine that with the factors you've said.

Yeah, I'd steer clear if I were him. I think he's done enough to garner looks from others. Jesse Minter has to be good as gone, too. Schematically football people are raving about the guy and the job he did this year.

Kenneth Grant will also be back. Sabb at safety as well. Seems like the defense will once again be strong, but offense will be a different story.

I'm less than indifferent and lukewarm about Mike Elston. Appreciate his time as a coach at ND, but once he was gone, that was it. ND didn't play Michigan while he was there, now he's in the NFL. C'est la vie.

Doesn’t matter if we like it or not he has done better for himself than he would have at ND. 🤢

Crazy how much Harbaugh was like "Hey Sherrone, good luck with all that" with the smoking crater he's leaving behind at Michigan.

Genuinely curious how his coaching style, ability, etc. translates to the NFL game. He has spent his entire career in college football.

Ball is ball. Same task, different perspective. He's going to be coaching professionals now, so it is a lot more about managing those guys versus developing them. In many ways, it will be easier than having to deal with guys who are 18-23 years old. These NFL guys are there to play ball and earn a check. Many of them are fighting for a job that isn't guaranteed to them as most scholarships are honored. Many are going to be men will have families. No classes and study hall to worry about. The position group room will be his and that's where the relationships will be built, as opposed to recruiting. Guy could be on the waiver wire the following day and Elston will never see him again in his life. The new guy comes in with a contract thanks to the GM. It's business.

Charlie Partridge and Mike Elston going to the NFL was not on my 2024 Bingo Card.
