I was extremely impressed with the defense, and especially the front 7. We look fast on defense, and swarm to the ball. I haven't said that about a ND defense in a while. Gilman gets my game ball for the defense. What an asset he might be. And speaking of safeties, Elliot didn't make any bad plays or miss tackles. So hopefully he really has improved.

OL has a lot of work to do, but they can hope clean that up over the next couple weeks. RBs are very average, but I knew that going in. Will be nice to get Dexter back.

Lastly, Winbush outperformed my expectations. I was very concerned about him, and I thought he had excellent pocket presence and stepped up and/or escaped like he was calm, cool, and collected. He played great considering how often he was getting smacked.

The injury to MTA sucks. Were out 2 playmakers for the season on defense already. These are huge hits that can deplete the depth quickly. Really hope we can get through the next few without any more major injuries. I wonder if Ewell cross trains back? I doubt it.

The last time I thought this, was last year, pre-November. That was the first time i had thought it in a while tho.

2. Winbush floats too many passes, throws off back foot. Could have been picked a couple more times
3. Credit BW for some tough running, but if that is their offensive plan he'll be beaten down 6-7 games into season
Watch it. If you think Wimbush is anything less than a unanimous Heisman winner after that performance, be prepared to be crucified by the lunatics on here.

Who would you give the offensive game ball to?

It’s a good thing the board is big enough to hold all types of lunatics including the ones who throw pity-party campaigns over exaggerated generalizations.

Lol, pretty hilarious combined with previous statements. By almost all involved he played a very good game last night. Too bad you didn’t see it. But it’s not kool aid drinkers that did, just the real world and all

1. Tailgating was awesome, could hardly walk in the rows in the Joyce lot

4. TEs should be BFF for BW
5. Thought D played well
6. kick off return was so deflating, was he even touched?
7. stadium ambience was best I've seen in 50 years attending games
8. tighten it up next 3 games, and bring on Stanford
9. headed for a showdown in Blacksburg

By three different guys. I agree the stadium was sick...loved it!

Was at the game. Saw the value of the video board. They played the video clip of Michigan unable to call a play then posted Michigan wants you to be quiet. Green everywhere. The 2 Michigan fans in front of me were on their phones all night, not a peep.
Tailgating was drunken mayhem. Someone needs to tell someone to double the portolets.
Helped a fellow Irish fan out with a beer and phone charge and he pissed in one of my camp chairs.
We won because we have better leadership. From the players and coaches.

I agree that the video board is a positive addition. They had moments last night when it was used very effictively. My one and only complaint is that they need to improve on when and when not to play videos promoting university causes. It’s all about timing, and during occasions when the place should be / needs to be rocking, don’t play a video that can take the crowd out of the moment.

In addition to this they need to cut out all the honoring different academic departments crap between quarters. I'm sorry but no one gives a fuck about the math faculty or the women's rowing team. Instead of keeping the crowd going between quarters or long commercial breaks they cause the entire stadium to go silent.

Honor them before the game, or after, or at halftime.

I agree with all you guys, but you should be aware that this shit ain’t changing. This is how they placate the anti-football, self-righteous academic types in the faculty and administration.

Way out here in L.A. and the local sports radio stations have discussed the ND win and Harbaugh's failures a lot. Freaking awesome.

I think the real story from last night's game is how bad Michigan was. Harbaugh is in trouble. Michigan is going to barely scratch .500, and with a defense that has no less than 5 NFL players on it. I don't think Michigan has the best defense we'll see, but they certainly had great athletes.

Our O-line played about how I thought they would. Hainsey was not impressive; let's hope he gets settled in. Both tackles were getting beat on the edges, but Michigan has the luxury of crashing down because their LBs can cover the soft spots.

D was good. Love Alohi. Someone made a spot-on comment that he's mini-Manti. Bilal played well, too. A little disappointed that we couldn't get more pressure with the base d-line, but it is what it is. The tackling was very good, considering this was the first game. That rolling donut seems to be doing its work.

Did anyone notice that there's a really really ridiculously good-looking team manager?

Haha, this is sort of true. It should at least be kept to a minimum. They had some good ones for this opener though. The ‘88 squad and the women’s basketball champs.

I was actually kind of disturbed watching the opening video after the prayer. It had a Freekbass vibe to it... I was like.. f*ck, I thought we buried the ghost of that cornball theme song.

I’d repost that “classic” vid, but I don’t want the neg reps.

It’s nice to be complaining about nothing after a big game. :)

I was not pleased when we brought back the Michigan series, but what a great way to get the monkey off your back.

Outside of 2014, it's been a rough go for us.

Fantastic win, and nothing to nitpick IMO.

Dex coming back will be huge!

GO IRISH!

F^CK MICHIcan't!

You realize that since 1978 ND is 16-15 vs UM?

My only nitpick on this game was the play calling in the second half. To not absolutely go for the jugular and stomp on Harbaugh's throat was a bad move. Gonna cost Kelly a game somewhere. Playing not to lose vs Playing to win is a losers strategy.

1 BW better especially against a strong D, will look even better against weaker Ds
2 our play calling continues to be go big at the start, get a lead, and get conservative to scare everyones pants off with opponent climbing back
3 I like our RBs even without Dex, it was always going to be tough to run on UM this year
4 I love our WRs that came in kind of unproven but performed very well and will improve
5 OL was teated against a strong D line and held up well and will improve
6. ST inconsistent again, maybe nail that down better someday BK, please?
7 D was fantastic. Idk if we really have any stars, but we got a few really good and a ton of solid guys and depth to keep coming at you. The secondary was great too after a number of years and except for a couple of times only let things happen in front of them. So many highlights from them rock solid in the face of times when the O or ST left them in bad situations.

I had the opposite impression, I think 8-4 is the absolute floor for that Michigan team. They were worlds more impressive than MSU/PSU this week so I just can’t see them losing a large quantity of games.

Remember 2 days ago when the media and Michigan fans were sure that ND didn't belong on the same field as UM? Such a fun win.

This is very true, but if the University cares about its presentation value, refining that process will be part of the difference for overall effictiveness in both winning and promotion. After all, the video board is projecting the new traditions of our 21st century. I mean, depending on where you sit, you can’t even hear the band play, but everyone can hear Kanye’s “Power” blasting. My thing is just don’t default to a clip because you have it in the wing and it’s a long tv time out, especially when the game is close and we need the momentum up and the stadium rocking.

I'm wondering if you were watching the same game as the rest of us.

I find it very difficult to believe that Michigan will have returned basically everyone on defense, added a better QB (admittedly, they likely overestimated HOW good) and managed to go from 8 wins to 6 or 7.

Keep in mind that Michigan State and Penn State did not impress me. If I was to judge based on first game impressions, Michigan looked better than both. I imagine they'll manage to beat at least one of Michigan State, Penn State or Wisconsin, especially since 2 of those 3 are at home. That comes out to at least an 8-4 record, possibly 9-3.

Again, if we're going by first week impressions, Michigan has the best defense we'll face in the regular season and the next best isn't even really close. That being said we've yet to see FSU or Virginia Tech's, who I imagine will be 2 and 3 respectively on our schedule in terms of defensive prowess. That being said, I would be surprised if they were close to matching Michigan.

ND won't face a tandem of ends as good as Gary and Winovich, or a tandem of LB's as good as Hudson and Bush, or a CB pairing as good as Long and Hill. Even if their offense is mediocre, they're insanely good defense will keep them in pretty much every game.

I really think ironically that Wimbush is the one kind of QB that can really defeat the kind of defense Michigan is playing. Wimbush's pocket presence is showed last night combined with his athleticism is the only thing that semi neutralized the pass rush. The average statue pocket passer would have been brutalized by the edge rush they were showing. Conventional offenses are going to be embarrassed by their defense at times this year.

Our wideouts made good plays on the ball and Wimbush's running were effective at times, and that's what made us through this game.

This Michigan team is under-performing with the talent they have. Maybe the dirty secret to Harbaugh is that it was really David Shaw that made Stanford an elite program.

We'll see how this season plays out, but it's ridiculous to crown this Michigan defense "the best we'll see all year," one game into the season.

Michigan is winning the National Championship this year, book it! The Irish can't play defense, and Wimbush can't escape Rashan Gary!

This was a top 10 defense that returned 9 starters.... Insane to assume all of a sudden this defense forgot how to play football

Despite how much I loathe them, I hope Michigan now runs the table (pushing Urban Meyer out the door along the way) and wins the Big Ten. I just don’t see it happening.
Their defense is the real thing, as we saw in the second half, but they’ve got problems on offense. That line will get shredded by at least three more opponents unless it gets better. Shea Patterson is just OK. And they didn’t appear to have any real difference makers at the skill positions.
Maybe it just wasn’t their night. Maybe our defense is truly lights-out. But that looked like an eight or nine-win team, tops, given the schedule they’ll play.
