You're right... he saved his twitter assets for attacking the parents of an Army captain killed in Iraq.
The Khan family made themselves fair game when they showed up at the DNC. Don't put yourself in the public arena and then cry foul when you're attacked publicly. Your son dying in Iraq is a tremendous sacrifice, but that doesn't give you lifetime immunity to say whatever you want without repercussions.

To be clear, Trump is still a god-tier moron for going after them. Just because they're "fair game" doesn't make it good taste or even smart politics.

Twitter isn't a "public arena"? Who knew?

Which is perfectly fine.

Reddit troll who posts racist and anti-Semitic comments gets clapped back at by CNN = Very unfair and low energy

Presidential candidate attacking the character of a family of a fallen soldier = perfectly fine.

Yes to both. I don't even care if the dude posted shit he shouldn't have posted. The fact that CNN went after him because of a WWE gif is soft. Bigly lacking in energy.

If I died in a war, that doesn't give my parents some sort of bubble of righteousness where they can't be criticized.

If CNN wants to go after anonymity, then why don't they out all their anonymous leakers in all their DJT scandal stories?

I'm hoping they will use this as an educational tool to the public, avoiding the word "censorship," and instead using the word "accountability."

I can get behind this. Post whatever the eff you want, just be ready to pay the price if you are saying illegal shit.

But it is totally cool for the leader of the free world to go after private citizens on twitter. K

I find it interesting that character of the person being attacked (anti Semite vs deceased war veterans parents) has seemingly no merit to your thought process. You feel that a hateful person making memes should be above retaliation from an entity you clearly have little respect for... but parents of a person that gave the biggest sacrifice to our country should be bashed by someone who is supposed to be one of the most respected people in the world. I find that interesting.

btw. If you died fighting for my freedom. You're folks can say pretty much whatever they want as far as I'm concerned. I may not agree with them, but I would respect the loss they took for my freedom.

Wooly, how do you feel about this comment by itself? Are we at least all in the same boat on that? Just curious...

You can hate on Trump going after them all you want, I don't mind if he does.

Correct... it doesn't matter if the dude is an anti-Semite or if he's PJP2. He posted a WWE wrestling gif and CNN went after him. That's absurd.

Sure. I think it's low energy for a media outlet regardless of affiliation to respond to something like this. That being said, I find it interesting that the same feeling isn't the bar for the President of The United States. Who tweeted this out.

I mean, think about what you're thoughts would be if 10 years ago I told you that a reality tv star would be our president and he would be sharing videos (you wouldn't know what a GIF was ten years ago) of him body slamming a person with the logo of a major news network on his head in a WWF match? Would you really think the story of a major news network outing the identity of someone making a mean video (ie Gif) of them would be the bigger story here?

I mean, c'mon man.... this is all straight out of the script of Idiocracy.

The part I can't get behind is the whole "this guy spewed hateful/illegal shit, and WE GOT HIM!!" idea some out there have now.

I liken it to a cop pulling a black guy over just because he's black, and then finding a bunch of illegal shit in his car.

We are all glad the illegal shit is off the streets, but how it got off the streets is questionable at best.

Man that's pretty weak by CNN even "investigating" a gif much less threatening to doxx the dude behind it.

All CNN has to do to win the image war against Trump is rise above but they seem to be playing straight into his tiny hands.

Exactly. CNN has every right to crawl into the sewer with the miscreants they condemn daily, but it will cost them the moral superiority they seem to think they have over said miscreants.

In a perfect world, CNN gets bombed into oblivion, followed by Fox News, people go back to the local news, and start caring more about their community again, where they can actually make an impact.

I am just confused on what CNN's strategy was here. Even without the threat --perceived or otherwise-- of dox, what would that activity/statement accomplished?

Well, when all his followers get triggered by the Declaration of Independence, you have to wonder if that is actually what his supporters believe.

You and Wiz should start a new political party where you can support a candidate and their actions without ever actually associating yourselves with them. It seems like a very convenient platform. ;)

you mean news media like CNN? I thought we were talking about them being meanies to the Don?

You sure it was all of them?

Trump is a goof. He flips out anytime someone doesn't agree with him.

right...which accomplishes what? For a media company, this wasn't a media savvy move. I really don't understand what the hell they thought was going to happen.

They thought "Great, more people are going to make memes with our logo on it and we will own the internet! After-all, all publicity is good publicity." Worked perfectly...

Trump is an ultra idiot but enjoys the social media fight. He doesn't mind going toe to toe or getting into a close range shoot out.

CNN and their "journalist" throws hey-makers and sucker punches all day but want to call timeout to cry when someone bitch slaps them. They (and the media in general) are snipers hiding behind "anonymous" sources and "freedom of the press", nothing more.

They (and media in general) want to be seen as some sacred keepers of the truth, when they are nothing more than profiteers battling for clicks. Not a big fan of buffoons tweeting, but even less of a fan about bias media crying over a silly meme.

Grow a pair CNN, you're not sacred, and your not special. Perhaps you should retreat to your safes space and concentrate on play doh for a while.

The gifs are pure gold. Thank you CNN.

Against Trump or in general? Because it's been working great for WaPo against Trump.

Has it? I don't know either way with WaPo. Can you elaborate?

My point was to the broader effect of "taking the high ground" against Trump. Let's look at some people who have taken that road.

- McCain
- Obama
- Jeb Bush
- Ted Cruz
- Rand Paul

Which one of those guys are looked at in a better light by the general public, or in particular, Trump followers? They all took the "high ground" approach to Trump and it certainly didn't stop Trump or his followers. Trump's comments seemingly are enough in and of themselves as enough evidence for his followers to hate someone.
