I predict we get left holding the bag, again. Herman goes to LSU and we end up with some second-choice oaf, just like in 04.

Prove me wrong, Jack.

Herman might be able to pick between USC, Texas, LSU, and ND. I see no scenario where he would pick ND over any of the above. I don't see Kelly being fired unless he finishes 6-6 or below, so I don't think that matters.

I think 6-6 is one of the better outcomes for the season..

Miami
Navy
Army
Virginia Tech
USC

Does anyone see this defense, even without BVG, suddenly finding a pass rush or safaety speed to be able to beat Stanford, Miami, or Virginia Tech?

Right, so considering the USC game a toss up (generous) then we're looking at 6-6 as an almost "best case" scenario. I honestly think we might go 4-8 if things don't break our way. Texas, MSU, and Duke are all mediocre teams and we went 0-3 against that slate.

This current firing should bring about positive change and with that, a few wins.

With how the tackling has been the Army and Navy games seem scary

I know it's shocking, but Miles is an offensive coach. So hiring him as DC is not a good idea.

No, it's OK, I'm willing to put up with his offensive behavior to have the kind of defenses he's consistently supervised.

I don't think Miles is the solution as a DC, but as long as he's not in charge of QBs I figure he can't be worse than what we had. Maybe his personality helps invigorate the players.

I'd suspect that some middling program will pay him to come in first as a HC again, ala Petrino's entrance back into college football at Western Kentucky.

Miles will get another head coaching job. He just needs to find a good offensive coordinator to help him with his QB's. He won't be a D.C. Here and I am saying that negatively either. Yes Saban started LSU but he did a damn good job keeping it up there.

Rumor around my parts his LSU is all in on Urban Meyer. That won't happen though, hes a god in Ohio.

Ha I don't get it. I agree with you. Plus, aside from being King of Ohio, there's no way Urban leaves what he's built at OSU in order to *rebuild* LSU and compete with Saban in the regular season every year.

He'd be much smarter to stick around in the B1G, make the playoffs every two years, and maybe square off with Saban in the postseason.

It "would be much smarter" if Urban came to ND and saved us.

Ha, take my previous post and sub-in "ND administration" for "Saban" and it's the same song and dance.

No way Urban leaves what he's got at pOSU to come and compete with the ND Admin every year.

Exactly, and why put yourself in a position to play a potentially deadly schedule every year when you currently, basically, have 3/4 'games' a year?

Is LSU nice? I honestly don't know anything about the campus or facility's. My gut tells me they are going to struggle to get a big time hire, but, what do I know.

How in the hell could LSU (or anyone for that matter) justify hiring Briles at this point?

The Land of Huey Long?

The state that elected Edwin Edwards to 4 separate terms?

Edwards and wife Candy Picou's adventures make Petrino dull.

The state that brought us, Ray "Let's Make A Deal" Nagin.

The state that leads the nation in officials convicted of corruption per 100,000 residents.

Take a look at Louisana's history. Briles or Petrino would seem like model citizens.

LSU fans see their program as elite and a place that would be a dream job for the top coaches in the country. Not sure anyone else sees them quite that way. Until Saban 15 years ago, they were little more than Ole Miss with a bigger stadium. They are in the middle of one of the most talent-laden parts of the country, though, so that's a big plus for them.

Al.com had an interesting suggestion today: hire Bama running backs and associate head coach Burton Burns. It makes more sense than you might think.
