I'm saying specifically, when Kelly got here, which players committed after he was hired. I know all of these players "committed" to Kelly by reassuring their commitments but which players specifically committed after he was hired.

Nix committed in between coaches. Heggie committed to Kelly. And maybe Hendrix? Or was he just flirting with Florida. I can't remember now.

I want to say Hendrix was just flirting with Florida, I'm sure Kelly was in his ear. He got to see this kid while he was at Cincinnati. Nix yeah I remember. What about Zach Martin. I think he might have committed to Kelly.

I may be wrong on some, but I'm pretty sure these were the recruits who committed after BK got hired.

I can see how some of the older players would be upset by his comments, but you know what...put up or shut up. Most of CW's teams consisted of self-entitled prima donnas who did more talking than playing. To the people who follow recruiting, it is night and day the types of kids this staff is recruiting versus the previous.

I saw nothing wrong with the video. I really thought this was a big issue by reading the comments before I saw it myself.

If the upperclassmen cant take criticism then their careers are already over with, it only gets harder from this point forward if they have NFL aspirations.

It reminds me of the 2008 game against Boston College. Their fans were asking our players "where is your heart?". Maybe this is exactly what needs to happen to this program. If the prima donnas can't handle it, transfer.

I think what he said me be being taken a little out of context by the upperclassmen. I didn't take from what he said as him meaning, "The guys I've brought in are just so great, but I'm stuck w/ these bums from Weis' era right now." It was more about playing style to me, as some have mentionned. He coaches a very different brand of football than what these kids were recruited to play. Of course it takes time for them to adjust to different roles than what they've had before. He even said that the problem wasn't buy-in. In context of that, I take his overall comments to mean, "Hey, they're trying, but this is very different than what they're used to and it's taking time."

Kelly is the type that would take a 3 star with the right mentality and something to prove over a Chris Martin-type 5 star. I'm more than ok with that.

I'm completely ok with these statments. I had a coach just like kelly in high school. He made me a better player just by getting after me and lighting a fire under my ***. It worked i ended up getting all-state D-end and i wasnt even close to being the best athlete on the field.

Sorry, but Manti Te'o isn't playing football for his teammates. He's playing because he loves the sport and because he's getting paid to.

Seriously, you're getting free college, free room and board, etc. to do a job. It's a job, and Kelly's the boss. I was just called out big-time about a month ago at work for acting like a prima donna after having to go back to my high school job with a college degree. And it happened in front of someone my own age. Can you imagine what would have happened if I had complained about it on Facebook? LOL. The talk changed my attitude. It should change theirs.

Soldiers fight for their brothers in battle to survive. You aren't in battle; you're doing a job. So shut up and do it.

Obviously I agree with Kelly. But hey, I don't know the whole story.

Kelly is absolutely right. Someone mentioned before that the seniors were freshman in the 07 season, so they were indoctrinated with a losing mentality. If the seniors don't like the comments then they can choose to become leaders through their actions, or get their job taken from a younger guy. Simple as that.

The amount of heart you see from guys like Atkinson is something that is resoundingly lacking in the senior leadership of this team. I cannot think of one senior past Michael Floyd that leads both by words and his actions. In fact, I feel sorry for Michael that he works as hard as he does, and only the young guys follow. His senior peers have let him down.

Aaron said it well in his clip, we need guys to step up. Not just in play, but in actions. Where is the angry play, where is the accountibility, where is the freaking heart? We didn't lose to USC, UM and USF.... we folded to those teams. This sh!t must stop now.

So I think I figured out Kelly's Sophomore guys:

Danny Spond
Derek Roback - Transfer
Tate Nichols
Luke Massa
Kona Schwenke
Austin Collinsworth
Matt James (RIP)
and
Bruce Heggie

Simply put...The players that took such offense to what it is that Kelly said are the EXACT SAME players that he was trying to call out. If I'm doing my job and working my A** off, and my coach calls out an entire group to which I belong, I would know damn well that he isn't specifically talking about me. These kids need to watch a Miller Light commercial and MAN UP!

I wouldn't call those "Kelly's guys". He had approximately two months in which to salvage Weis' recruits and reach out to his own. Given that the modern recruiting process starts years before NSD for many recruits, those guys were likely low-hanging fruit for ND.

I didn't think the comment was out of bounds, seems like it's blowing up more than it should.

At the prep rally for USC, I had a bad feeling about the body language of the team coming up on stage. There was no energy, they just kind of meandered up on stage. I was thinking that wasn't a good thing, where are the leaders letting those guys drag up like that? I felt right then we were screwed and I had already bet all of my vbucks on the win.

We've got some great upper classman, and I don't think Kelly was trying to cast aspersions on everybody. The attitude of the team coming up on that stage is the problem. (I will admit the pep rallies don't seem to be all that inspirational.

Few good players in that mix. I was just trying to remember all of the players that committed to Kelly.

What a bunch of whining ****ers. I might make a twitter account just to get on there and stick a boot up their ***. Oh Daddy yelled at me to try and motivate me, so I'm going to use social media to fight back. ****ing quit the team if you don't like it. It sounds like a bunch of entitlement to me. ND players work very hard, I won't begrudge them that, but clearly something is not clicking. That means. you work harder, not bitch and moan. I'm gonna create a twitter account just to get on there and stop their ****ing sniveling. If I **** up my job, people die. I'm so enraged by this twitter reaction from the players. ****ing babies. How about you come to the Army with me, I'll take you through boot camp, to your unit, and to a foreign land where people want to kill you. I've been called so much ****, mostly in basic, because it's not clicking, and it ****ing needs to, or you're going to get your buddies killed. Finally it does, but it's a growing process and you take your constructive criticism and come back harder.

My CO, who I was pretty close to being in the Mortar section, got in my ****ing *** because I dropped out of the initial 12 mile for EIB because I twisted my ankle. Called me a lot of unsavory things when he heard I took the truck to the finish, and we were supposed to be friends. I mean, we hung out on mission by ourselves for days, so he told me some **** and we bonded. I thought we were cool, and when I realized he said that, it hurt. I was pissed, but I understood it was just to motivate me to be better because I wasn't getting it done myself. In any event, you can see the reaction of the players has just pissed me right the **** off.

I think what he said what was true. Weis recruited the big star players who might be soft. Look at all the flops in his recruiting class. Kelly likes a different player. He likes someone who fits his system and PLAYS HARD. So the players who skated by with Weis and were happy just being at ND are getting a wake up call.

If they can't handle it, next man in.

This whole thing is refreshing for me.. It's a way to break another layer of that losing mentality off these kids.. BK will take care of this behind closed doors and Navy will get stomped.

As for the freshman, they will continue to grow as Kelly intended and soon lead this team the right way.

1. I know there is a lot of opinions on what happened yesterday with Kelly's comments from the coaching staff/players/fanbase but here is the thing...........its 100% truth.

2. What Kelly said in the moment was not as bad as being reported/overreactions of the players. But here is something that think about.

3. "You can see the players that I recruited here. You know who they are. We’ve had one class of recruiting kids that I’ve had my hand on. The other guys here are coming along. But it’s a process, it can’t happen overnight. They’re getting there. They’re making good progress. We’re 4-3, very easily could be a lot better than that. If we take care of the ball when it’s 17-10 on the one-yard line, who knows what happens. I don’t want to paint a picture that we’re so far away that we can’t get to them, but it’s a process, we keep banging them every day. It’s the old cliche, keep banging the sledgehammer against the wall and you don’t see the cracks and then one day it cracks down. We’re still banging at it."

" It’s more about how I want things done. How I want this team to play. I haven’t been able to get it the way I want them to play. So for me, if they’re going to do all the things the right way and we’re just getting beat because the other teams are better, I’ll be OK with that. But that’s not the case right now. I’m not very happy about the way we handle the little things. I don’t want to get into too much detail."

4. That is what Kelly said, courtesy of IrishIllustrated's transcript. If you are a member there, go watch the video of him saying it.

5. For certain players to take it as they took it...that says exactly what Kelly was pointing out dont you think? Adversity/spotlight/expectations/etc are higher than most at ND. With him saying what he said, then getting the response from the players in the way he did.....its just showed the fanbase what he is really working with. A comment made and the response. Its black and white.

6. Self Entitlement. As much as I liked Coach Weis as ND's coach and as a person...he brought Self Entitlement into ND. It needs to leave. Whether it means we lose a player(s) that would have been asked for a 5th year or have upperclassmen sulk the last 5 games of the year...I will bet the house that self entitlement will be out of the program next season. Kelly has the choice to ask guys back, and if they aren't right you can bet your *** he won't. They are not entitled to a 5th, and they aren't owed anything by ND.

7. Kelly has won at EVERY school he has been to. He has built a dynasty before. I am going to ride with him over a 20 year old superstar that is making a 3-4 year stop for football.

8. And to be honest. You can tell a difference in the players Kelly has brought in. Ishaq Williams. The young man is totally thrown into a different culture than what he has experienced the last 18 years of his life. He is homesick, not getting a ton of PT, and had the opportunity to go home. But he stayed to learn his position. To get better. Stephon Tuitt. He tracked down Brian Hardin over the summer to open up the film room on a Friday night. Kona/Hounshell sacrificed potiential redshirts for all they knew 1 game. GA3 bringing an element that hasnt been at ND for years on sp teams. Collinsworth...switching positions. Bringing it all on SpTeams. Louis Nix. Sure he was recruited by Weis and committed when we didnt have a coach. But he has bought 110% into Kelly. Got his weight down, and is committed to keeping it down. Committed to ND and not transferring after last year. Tee Shepard...does anything and everything ND tells him to do just so he can get here in January. I mean the kid sacrificed his senior season of high school football to come to ND. Greenberry...pleaded with ND for an offer. Worked his *** off over the summer to prove that he was worth the offer. Baratti- hasnt played safety since his early high school days, wanted to play QB in college, yet he will be making a move he more than likely doesnt want to entirely make when he gets to ND.

9. ND will be fine. There are going to bumps, but its going to show where this team is going on how they respond. Saturday is a huge game for many reasons.

ps. attacking them on twitter/facebook isnt going to make yourself or the players feel any better. to those that have you have written absolutely ridiculous things that are uncalled for.

That's what will happen when every second of a player's day is accounted for. The PR obligations at ND are a nightmare for players and coaches. Just look at what they go through on gameday before and after kickoff. As I said earlier, it's refreshing to see a coach care more about football and winning than his image with boosters and all the luncheons/rallies he constantly has to attend to appease them.

Brian Smith... But he finally manned up.

Brian Smith had a lot of heart and fight in him. Unfortunately he also talked the talk above what he could back up with his natural ability. He had pride though, and you're right he manned up and went down swinging, and during his local radio interview following the Utah game last year you could hear it in his voice and everything he said, that he "got it", and had grown into a man over the course of his senior season. Jonas Gray is this year's Brian Smith. Guys who always wanted to be good, but didnt know how. They both got it their senior year, and aside from their own apirations, came to understood that the program is bigger than any one person. You work hard and fight hard for yourself, for your teammates, for your coaches, and for the kids who 4 years down the road are going to be standing in the same shoes you are today.

i'm completely ok with what kelly said, and like most of you, he should be calling his seniors out. nothing he said was offensive, but at the same time i can see why the players might get upset. HOWEVER, some of the people in the notre dame fan base are completely over the line in calling out these players, and it really gets me pissed off, and this is evident particularly on twitter. some of their posts to the players, including manti, are absolutely uncalled for and i hate to see it.
