Could you imagine Ray Lewis or Ed Reed being a part of this team and what they would have to say to some of their team mates. Ed Reed's 10 second comments at halftime of the 2001 FSU game are legendary at the U and leadership like that is what sets guys like Ed apart and sets the tone for championship football. I have a feeling those guys would have a man-up moment with a lot of the current ND football players. The U had swagger in the 80s and 90s, but to match the swagger and talent a lot of those guys were true leaders and had a ton of heart, much like the ND teams of the same time, which is why they dominated the decade.

**** Butkus was just on the radio saying CBK is being too hard on his kids, and should lighten up, because a 6 win season still gets you in a bowl game, and there is a good chance that can still happen.

Butkus then talked about how George Halas used to put "Happy Grams" in his locker as a rookie to help him deal with being away from his family.

I say good, let it get worse. You can't make an omelette without breaking a few eggs.

*This is good for recruiting IMO. How easy would it be to sell the "there's a new sheriff in town, and dammit, we're gonna win again. Go to U$C if you want to be coddled and fail to meet expectations" mantra?

I would agree to a point. Wood has to be careful with what he says we do have other opitions at running back then him. So if he keeps running his mouth he might find him self on the bench. At the same time he may not be getting the same support that Jonas got for his fumble which i believe would be unfair. Other then that fumble wood has be pretty good and accountable for us this year.

I am reminded of the 84' Finals when after game 3 Larry Bird publicly called his teammates "sissies". And it worked. That was the only year they beat the Lakers in the finals.

You know this was all a ploy since Halloween is coming up. He did this to create a "Team Edward" vs "Team Jacob" situation in an effort to make ND appeal to a younger female demographic.

What a bunch of whining ****ers. I might make a twitter account just to get on there and stick a boot up their ***. Oh Daddy yelled at me to try and motivate me, so I'm going to use social media to fight back. ****ing quit the team if you don't like it. It sounds like a bunch of entitlement to me. ND players work very hard, I won't begrudge them that, but clearly something is not clicking. That means. you work harder, not bitch and moan. I'm gonna create a twitter account just to get on there and stop their ****ing sniveling. If I **** up my job, people die. I'm so enraged by this twitter reaction from the players. ****ing babies. How about you come to the Army with me, I'll take you through boot camp, to your unit, and to a foreign land where people want to kill you. I've been called so much ****, mostly in basic, because it's not clicking, and it ****ing needs to, or you're going to get your buddies killed. Finally it does, but it's a growing process and you take your constructive criticism and come back harder.

My CO, who I was pretty close to being in the Mortar section, got in my ****ing *** because I dropped out of the initial 12 mile for EIB because I twisted my ankle. Called me a lot of unsavory things when he heard I took the truck to the finish, and we were supposed to be friends. I mean, we hung out on mission by ourselves for days, so he told me some **** and we bonded. I thought we were cool, and when I realized he said that, it hurt. I was pissed, but I understood it was just to motivate me to be better because I wasn't getting it done myself. In any event, you can see the reaction of the players has just pissed me right the **** off.

Part of my theory as to why ND has been the way they are for the last 20yrs is that these players live on the past glory of others. And when they are given every opportunity and resource to succeed yet they choose not to go out and take it. How many times have we seen blue chip guys get on campus and be a bust.

As for the twitter posts it tells me all I need to know about the players. Anytime my dad, coach, or even boss for that matter called me out I always choose the man the f*ck up and got it done and I was better for it. And it's not a generational thing cause I am only about seven to eight years older than these guys.

As I watched this video I just sat there and nodded my head in agreement.

Agreed. If i was the coach and you want to run your mouth on a social media outlet, then you can run your *** and your mouth to the bench. 5 yards against USC cierre? good game.... If I was one of these players I would be pissed at myself. These freshman know how to win and aren't a bunch of little pussies like the upperclassman. Someone posted on the first few pages about how the seniors freshman year was 2007, these players are a bunch of losers by nature and it is not totally there fault. These upperclassman have no swagger and have never had a backbone. man up and play division 1 football. And you people who say that BK basically said that some of these players wouldn't be on the team if it was up to him (recruiting), well that is true you aren't a RKG. He wouldn't have recruited half these players because they are pussies and dont play hard and care more about trick shot monday than anything else. I used to say "wait until 2012-2013, ND will be national champions, but these classes are so far underachieving that it isnt funny". One phrase to chew on, pussification of america's youth. I think this team will achieve greatness when all of Weis's recruits are gone and all BK's are in. Go Irish.

Yeah I guess I didn't have social media when I was in grade school and in high school but when my dad got up in my sh*t (as he would tend to do and for good reason) I didn't go running to my mommy. And we had Facebook my last couple of years in college and I don't remember posting about how our coach called us out as he would do (he made BK's comments look like sugar spice.) But than again his comments weren't played on the internet for all to see (mostly bc no one cared about our team haha) so it's not a apples to apples comparison.

I guess access to outlets like FB and twitter allow for this type of stuff to happen. I am sure cooler heads will prevail. I am just disappointed in their response. Explains a lot really.

This is in no way meant to be confrontational...just my two cents ok?

the game plan---there is a difference between the game plan and the execution of said game plan, not being in on the planning, I do not know which part of that failed, but my guess is at least part of both

Barkley---I was not in on the planning, but my guess is that they didn't really want to give him that much time to throw...as you said everyone knows that

"you need to call timeouts even if we're losing so the other team won't call us quitters"--- Huh? You want him to call the time outs for no apparent reason just so the other team doesn't call us names? Re-watching the end, I am not sure exactly what points I would have wanted time outs. (I know that argument is up for debate and should be, but remember, this is strictly my opinion here) Did you see the end of MSU-Wisc? I think Wisc wished in the end that they hadn't called the timeout that they did use

I don't play football but if I was on that field and we're only down by two touchdowns and the coach is not calling timeouts with six minutes to go I'd be pissed. Like to hear opinions of former players on this.

are you kidding me

are you kidding me

All of those players who like to run their mouth can hit the road. Hell, I'd open the door up for them. That goes for players of All American caliber to 4th string. I remember the last time I got called out and went home and cried to mommy because coach hurt my feelings. She said grow up. I guess I should have jumped on facebook and started talking **** about the one who was leading the pack. No one and I mean no one is bigger than the team. At times, the truth hurts. What BK said is 100% true. You can tell which recruits were his and those of Coach Weis. Different style of players. The University of Notre Dame should give scholarships on the basis of 1. a student-athlete whom performs well in the classroom and on the field and 2. being a first class individual whom carries him/herself in a way that represents the University, the team, the alumns in a classy manner. Not some adolescents. Note to all those players who believe in "evey man for themselves"...It's going to be a cold and lonely world out there. If you don't want to unite and come together then get the heck out of town. I sure as hell know I dont want someone representing such a fine institution like that. That slaps all of the organizational members in the face by giving them that image. Maybe some of the immature kids on the team should try JUCO for a year or two before moving up to the big leagues. I think players using social media to call out coaches is insane. If you really have something to say- say it to their face... I'd say to the players whom are "tweeting" and "posting" negative stuff about the progam what Kevin's sister from Home Alone said to Kevin: "Kevin, you're such a disease!" Win or lose this weekend BK, I'd respect you a lot if you decided to bench those players who are talking. Even if many of them are starters such as our tailback and All American line backer- Put your foot down.
