Started thread based on Lax's post in the Kelly NFL Rumors thread.

This thread should be for Kelly to Florida discussion and/or comparing UF to ND job. NFL thread is NFL rumors only.

This thread should be for Kelly to Florida discussion and/or comparing UF to ND job.

There is no comparison when it comes to academics and tradition however it is much easier to recruit at UF when the standards to get into the school are lower. I believe it would be much easier for Kelly to succeed at UF because he knows how to coach offensive football. In my eyes the reason why Muschamp failed is because they couldn't score.

“I’m going to Florida in about two weeks to get some sun,” Kelly said. “I’m getting out of here and this weather in two weeks.

“What else am I up for? Anything else? Can I be up for the Notre Dame job? Because we’re 7-3 right now. I’m hoping to hold onto this job. That would be good for me.”

In ISD Intel today they discussed why it was extremely unlikely that Kelly would make this move, discussing the specific hurdles and downsides and upside to the move. And then they talked about the four candidates they felt are at the top of Florida's list right now... Chip Kelly, Gus Malzahn, Hugh Freeze, and Stoops. We'll see if it gets past that group.

He wants some sun, huh? What next - he wants to avoid paying state income taxes too?

I hope he doesn't leave but he'd foolish not to give this some serious consideration. More money (just a guess) and an easier job. Sign me up.

Foley is good friends with Fedora, the thought is bring in an offensive minded coach and the defense is good enough at UF to win games. He spent 3 years at UF, with his final year as o coordinator where they ranked 19th in total offense in his 1 year.

Reposting here since the "Kelly to NFL Rumors" thread was locked: USA Today's Dan Wolken just published an article on why UF isn't a top-5 job.

Recruiting and roster management would definitely be easier, but the facilities would be a downgrade and (unbelievably) expectations would be even higher. Then factor in that pay would likely be similar, and there's no way to paint this as anything but a horizontal move. So I still don't see it happening.

an espn insider issue has the top 10 of potential candidates who would best fit...and he wasn't one of them

Dabo to UF would not be good for the ACC and our future strength of schedule, but it does make sense. And if it keeps Foley away from Kelly, I can't complain.

I agree with you. He can recruit pretty good and his offense can be good. Sucks big time for the ACC.

freeze, stoops, mullen, holliday-marshall, holgerson, rich rod, chad morris, McElwain, Gundy ,Harbaugh

I just saw another list with a lot of those same names. Harbaugh really though? you would be like adding another bama to the conference.

Swinney is pretty mediocre IMO. That's why his coordinators make so much money. And it's easy to win when you're the (second?) dirtiest program in the entire country and just buy players who are better than what Duke, etc. can put on the field.

How has Clemson done with their hired guns against South Carolina? Florida State? Fraudulent team with an inflated record based on piss poor competition.

ND isn't foolish but they have the financial ability to match or beat a pay increase as the only factor for leaving.

The facilities at ND have to be better or at least equal to Florida. The GUG is no joke. Practice fields with turf indoors and outdoors + a grass practice field. This doesn't even mention the fact our stadium expansion starts next year. I mean who wouldn't want to stick around to coach the first game in that new beautiful home?!

Recruiting would be easier at Florida. Wouldn't have spread your assistants across the entire country since the South East is so rich with talent. Admission standards would be lower. However, he would be dealing with more off field issues though.

Weather would be a major factor for me. As much as I love ND, it is hard to beat the sunshine of Florida, California, Arizona, or Texas. As soon as my brats graduate HS, that is where I am heading! Warm weather seems to put people in better moods, injuries seem to heal faster, etc.

As a coach, ND would be the better place right now. Talent is in place, facilities are great, a new stadium is coming, etc. Florida would be taking a step back to accomplish the same goal (NCAA NC)

I don't disagree with any of this, but Dabo seems to check a lot of Foley's boxes. He's also a much more realistic target than some of the other names being mentioned.

Florida weather is the forbidden fruit in the American Garden of Eden. Really tempting and juicy, but still not a good idea.

Would he really? No academic issues. A lot more violent ones most likely, but we've kind of seen how well the state of Florida handles threats to football success.

Dabo doesn't have an offense or a defense. The guy is not really much of an X's and O's coach. He is truly the CEO of the program and gives all the responsibilities to his assistants. It's kind of amazing how hands off he is. He is a recruiter and a motivator that hires good assistants.

Maybe that will work for him at Florida too though.

Sounds like some of the requirements for the future ND HC.

I just look at the ND graduation rates and assume they are smarter players. Now, you always have a young kid do dumb sh!t (Tommy Rees) and ND even has it's bigger offenders (Will Mahone) but for the most part, it seems ND gets individuals that make better decisions.
