Yea, basically the staff is pretty high on the long term for last years group as am I. They didn't feel the need to add too much depth at the position, which I agree with as well. They went after some really top talent (Brown, Gustin, etc.) it just didn't workout. So they brought in Wallace who I think is a great long term project. Personally I thought their approach on this was right. Now maybe we could talk about how they recruited those prospects but the big picture I thought was right. Difference maker or bust

That also means they have to make it priority this next cycle. Don't want to leave to big of a gap.

I'm personally not a big fan of overloading at a position every other class. I really wish we tried to balance out the classes more. Seems like WR and OL is the only position where we have some balance.

I'd say we're pretty consistent at getting QBs and CBs too.

Redshirting evens it out most time unless you get a rash of injuries and have holes from prior years problems. Which as we know,. can and will happen from time to time.

QB yes although we were prepared to go without one this class if Wimbush didn't come along.

Weren't Drue and Watkins the only DBs we took last year? Am I forgetting someone? If so that's not balance.

That's only because there are more of them. Haven't you played dynasty mode in NCAA? 4-star WRs grow on trees!

ESB - ND
Dexter Williams - ND
Arrington Farrar - ND

The only 3 they predict for ND on NSD.

ESB is only one we could afford to miss on IMO. Him and Dexter appear to be in the fold already (sure hope at least).

However, Farrar, while not current ideal safety prospect, is the most needed of the three.

Would be a strong, strong finish for this staff with the way season ended and the relative "lateness" we got involved with Dexter (I know we got in touch early but he committed to Miami) and Farrar.

Noticed there was an Intel Report Friday so here it is:

- As we all have read before, Mike Sanford, not Stanford but Sanford, is a beast on the recruiting trail. He's been deeply involved in California for the last half dozen years and he 'stays on kids the whole time'. California recruiting should pick up for ND.

- Talks about Jeff Quinn are still ongoing. Still no definite word on if he will be the last addition or not. But a source who spoke with Christian said he would be a great addition because he is a guy who is not afraid to stand up to BK and tell him that he's wrong. They also say that despite him being an OL coach by trade, he could coach any position because he essentially helped build the offense so he knows where players are supposed to be.

As for recruiting, they said Quinn would be a lot like Hiestand in that he's not a fake guy and doesn't speak bullshit to recruits which helps because recruits can spot bullshit better these days.

- Look at ND going for only 2..maybe 3 WR this cycle and be very picky about it especially if 1 can play on the other side of the ball.

Names to look out for: Austin Mack, Ahmir Mitchell, Donnie Corley, Justin Layne, Tre Nixon, Binjimen Victor, and Josh Hammond.

- Robert Washington is believed to have his decision made for next month. The better target is early April however. Do not believe in the rumors of ND fading with him either. Despite Tony Alford leaving for OSU, TA reached out to the Washington family and set him up with a new contact in South Bend.

- Position Change Rumors - Michael Deeb and Doug Randolph to the rush defensive end position.

- Overall team mentality has been incredible according to a source. They have hit the weight room hard and in comparison to last year, there appears to be extra motivation for this season that wasn't there last season. Not to say they didn't work hard last season, because they did, but this year there's been a noticeable difference.

- The DL have really gone after it hard after the realization that you truly are only one play away from playing and they have taken on an elite unit mentality.

- The Mr. Brown of the ESB clan says he would prefer if his other two sons went to the same college but admitted that its not up to him as the colleges could have a different plan but the youngest, is rumored to be the best.

- ISD would be stunned if Shea Patterson picked anywhere else other then Ole Miss.

Is there really a reason to have Sanford and Quinn all on the staff with Heistand, Kelly and Denbrock? Good intel though. Also glsd the team is putting inthe work.

Good news, although every year I've been following ND football the team is working harder than the year before.

Thanks for the update. Two things stand out:

* Quinn standing up to BK. We really need someone telling BK "run the ball!!"

* Deeb and Randolph to rush ends. I like it.

Its also why Denbrock and BK get along so well.

There was quite a bit of DE talk around Randolph early. Deeb's move, however, makes you wonder.

I remember seeing Randolph in one of the post game video recaps and thought to myself he had become a large individual. He could be a welcome addition to the line. The Deeb move is a total surprise to me. Hopefully the staff feels they have really good depth (total bodies and health wise) at the lb level and can are not concerned w the move.

With Smith /Martini, Onwualu/Turner, and Martini/Morgan,,,, plus the 3 studs coming in, I'm OK with Deeb getting a shot somewhere else. I like the guy and want him to have the best opportunity to see the field.

The Music City Bowl Media Guide list both of them as 6-2, 240. Neither played as a freshman.

Deeb saw action in one game as a soph. Randolph played in 6.

Okwara was listed at 6-4, 260.

Trumbetti was 6-3.5, 251.

Denbrock was ND's Passing Game Coordinator the season before becoming ND's OC.

I was referring to a coach being able to stand up to BK. I was told that Denbrock is one of those coaches.

Think you missed Schmidt there.
But yeah. Deeb may not have typical rush end size (though neither did Shembo), but hard to see where he gets on the field much as a linebacker.

Deeb was seemingly a stud coming out of HS and many, myself included, expected him to see the field quickly-if only because of his work ethic. Hoping he gets his opportunity this year.
