Deeb was seemingly a stud coming out of HS and many, myself included, expected him to see the field quickly-if only because of his work ethic. Hoping he gets his opportunity this year.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I think people assumed that he would play early because we lacked depth (at that point Jarrett Grace) at inside LB and we were playing a 3-4. Now that we have switched to a 4-3 that is really more of a 4-2-5, he doesn't fit into the new defense at ILB. More of a run thumper and not much for pass coverage, which is necessary in BK's defense. Hopefully his work ethic will give him a chance to find a way to contribute as a pass rusher.

It's been a slow month on this thread...

As opposed to the bigger networks like Rivals, Scout, ESPN and 24/7, ISD is more of a mom-n-pop type of business, and Mike Frank runs it by himself. I've gotten to know some of their reporters, past and present, really well (all really good guys, and all very accessible if you're ever in town), and personally, I'd rather drive people towards their membership instead of just giving the info free. That's why you never see me recap it.

I don't have any problem with other members doing it, I'm just telling you why I don't do it, and why a couple other members don't either. Cheers.

Right, and IIRC, Mike Frank specifically asked us to discontinue this thread. He said he had no problem with us putting scattered ISD info on the IE site--i.e., putting info in recruits' threads immediately after an ISD Intel comes out is fine--but he did have a problem with basically reproducing or summarizing ISD Intel updates on this site in a thread titled ISD Intel.

I'm not a mod, but I think that's a perfectly reasonable request and we should comply with it, especially considering that ISD is a "mom 'n pop" sort of operation. It may even make sense to close this thread.

You're right in a sense, but it wasn't this thread. Matter of fact, Mike and Christian asked me to put the word out about Intel before they rolled it out. He and other pay sites got mad a long time ago, when people were just ripping stuff off verbatim. That's when this site and a couple of others had to change their rules to avoid litigation.

Of course, if Mike Frank sent a message to mods recently, then I stand corrected and my apologies on the misinformation.

Rustclad would be more fitting. I've posted the saga before in detail but don't recall what forum it's in.

Eight or nine years ago some posters cut and pasted entire articles from the various recruiting service on both IE and DD. Some other posters setting themselves up as "insiders" copied quotes or key comments with no attribution to the writer or service. Those posters were told not to copy but to to summarize and provide attribution but they persisted. As fast as pirated articles got deleted, somebody else re-posted the articles. This lead to several bannings after posters were told to cease and desist. Some complied. Others took issue and claimed Freedom of Speech. They were advised of Copyright law but persisted. When banned they'd come back with a new account and post offending material.

Both IE and DD were shoestring operations had limited staff for enforcement. Essentially there was one owner and a couple of volunteer moderators all on a part-time basis.

Mike Frank, founder of ISD, and another publisher, perhaps Jack Freeman, although I'd have to look that up, communicated with the owner of IE, Svoboda, and the owner of ISD, a high school kid out of Texas, threatening legal action for permitting copyright infringement. The owners of both sites panicked at the thought of legal expenses and sold there respective sites.

During this time in the wee hours one night, one of the IE mods fearing he might be sued individually deleted hundreds of threads and thousands of posts most of which contained no offending posts. Some mods quite. Those that were left were overwhelmed and took abuse from posters.

Both boards struggled though difficult times as orphans until new administrations and new mods took charge on both boards and restored order. I've posted about that before as well and am not going into detail here. The new "sheriffs" restored law and order much to the chagrin of the First Amendment
"I can post what I damn well please. F. U., you can't stop me." They found out the hard way that posting is a privilege not a right. The board got cleaned and became a better place as the disputes either moved on or were moved on.

It's fine to summarize a copyrighted article. Use your words and provide attribution. Provide a link so readers can get the details and the original author gets his hits. Publishers don't like that but most of them do the same thing paraphrasing other people's work.

Interesting history lesson there BGIF. It must really irk those paid site owners when they see their content made freely available online.
I've often wondered this but who actually owns IE? Is it collectively run by mods or some sort of unknown godfather?

As I noted earlier many of those irked, irk other sites. About 20 years ago on the IRJ, The Irish Recuiting Journal, I was the keeper of the recruiting data. I compiled a lengthy list of ND recruits vital information. I purposely put wrong info for about a dozen prospects such as a 300 lb OL with a 4.4 40 to see who was pirating my stuff. I substituted the town of a few regional high schools for recruit's hometowns and transposed letters in a couple of names. I posted it about 3 am. The next morning the exact erroneous data appeared on 3 different websites.

As for owners, IE was founded by Jason Svoboda. He sold to Josef ?? who was rumored to a Muslim in Canada in had no interest in sports just looking to turn a buck. He was the owner for a short time. Then came two guys in Houston. I have the names in a dead computer in my basement and a dormant cell in my brain. To my knowledge the mods have never received pecuniary rewards although they gotten a lot of abuse. As for administrators ...

"Josef" bought the site with the understanding that the previous owner would provide admininistrative services. He did. Now and then. He was more active creating an invitation only bootleg site and then when his noncompete (the spellchecker keeps changing that to noncooperation, a Freudian spellchecker) ran out the original guy launched Gold Helmet. Several of the old IE mods became mods on GH. There were a few who did their worst to sabotage IE. It wasn't pretty. The place became a sewer.

Meanwhile Josef had appointed a volunteer named Tony Tiger administrator. You'll still find Tony Tiger name on the vbook request thread. Tony was an avid MSU fan which didn't sit well with the ND base. Tony I believe enlisted ACamp. Goshen Gipper then came along and with the help of some bad ass mods like NDinL.A. and the trolls and assholes were driven off. Unfortunately GG died in an automobile accident. The board got stagnant for awhile then ND student Jason Pham came along kinda like Fr. Ted with ND football back in the 50's. There were others who helped out and still do.

I wrote a brief history of IE a couple of years ago. I think it's in the Feedback Thread.

Cheers yeah I will have a root for that. I used to post on GH for a few weeks before i found IE and the anti-IE sentiment was very strong indeed. IE is far superior is so many ways though.

It's their on ISD

Wait – is that "their" or "there?"

Is it their content on their site that can be found there?

Oh, screw it.

My brow still furrows but my head is inured and no longer aches.

Wait. Did I miss an Oxford comma?

I'm so thankful for you correcting my grammar errors on the Internet. Thank you for the lesson you have attempted to teach me the last three years, I've really taken it to heart as you can see
