That's what I thought too. It's too funny to see that Missions/Military Service getting the same academic treatment as jail. lol

It struck me that way. I rewrote the sentence about 4 times and couldn't get better wording. I figured I get accused of demeaning Mormons by somebody anyway.

The scholarship thing is totally something I'd expect Kiffin to do...

I would expect Hayden to accept none of this...whats up with that guy?

That's the real crux. Mr. Clean who was brought in to clean up the program. The New Sheriff in Town. It's like Garrett never left.

PS. I'm wasn't trying to equate the hit and run and DUI per se. But rather pointing out if jail time was a sentence in both cases and all conditions/obligations were met the ND student would be readmitted. I believe at ND because of reconciliation; at USC because he's an athlete.

I didn't mean this as carte blanch,e either. Cooper Rego wasn't charged but ND did expell him and wouldn't allow him to campus when his WVU team came to South Bend in '01.

This, from the Crabtree article has me confused: "Vehikite, a redshirt junior, took and passed more than a semester's worth of classes last spring and is "very close to graduating" from USC, Kiffin said. He took part in the university's student-athlete graduation in May."

What's that old saying about "close" only counting in horseshoes and hand grenades? Hell, ND threatened to withhold my degree (three weeks before the graduation date) because I hadn't returned a book I'd checked out from the St. Mary's library and hadn't fulfilled my PE requirement.

It turned out that the SMC library's records were screwed up and ND retroactively (and officially) accepted my reason for not completing my 3 week handball rotation because I'd broken my right thumb after the first session. I'd never played the game before, but as a "runt" I "ran the court" against two jocks 21-zip in a cutthroat game. A splinted thumb would have put a crimp in my game. Hell, I figured I'd paid my dues – I have a dent in the skin covering my left shin from a PE soccer game when a hot shot futbol player ignored the rules and wore his hard soled cleats. We were told to wear soft soled sneakers – we had no shin guards.

I also had to buy a new pair of glasses and get four stitches under my right eye when a defensive lineman sized galoot (he was on my team!) crushed a nice inside set I'd given him but then proceeded to stumble toward me and smash me with his bear claw sized left hand. Don't get me started on my ice skating rotation and the hockey game on the final day. All 5'7", 130 lbs. of me was "introduced" to the ice and the boards a few times. PE at ND can be brutal.

Sorry for the ramble, but you know how we old farts can be ...

He took part in the university's student-athlete graduation in May.

Student-Athlete graduation ???

Was he a Leinart Scholar, too?

USC graduates 61% of their football players according to this NCAA data.

NCAA Education and Research Data - APR, GSR, Federal Graduation Rates, ASR

I guess with that low a percentage graduating you can justify a Student-Athlete ceremony just for the rarity. It's probably takes as long as a 2 minute drill.

Does the tutor that did your homework, pick up your diploma too?

...its just odd he hasn't jumped in front of this

...missed the subtlety there ...sorry about that

This all made me think about my general experience living in SC land... I have two people that come into my life often enough that seem to fit the overall opinion I comes across on stuff like this.

My best man’s wife has an uncle that comes to all their gatherings… major SC fan… he openly states that ND has a much better focus on school and says openly he is so happy that SC doesn’t care about academics/share that focus. All he cares about is if football team wins.

The only other Notre Dame fan I have in my life is a fellow teacher buddy. His best man is a USC alum and HARDCORE SC fan… he also states openly he doesn’t give two shits if SC has murders, rapists, drug lords or nut cases on the team let alone if the normal players go to class or not… to hell with all of it… just win games…

the team is seen as completely seperate from the school it seems.

I find the fan base/alumni base in general simply doesn't care. "We cheat, if we are caught it’s everyone else’s fault… win games…." Period

I haven't read this entire thread but i don't think this is the issue you are talking about. Two people have just told me that Armond Armstead is suing USC for malpractice after repeaditly shooting him up with pain meds and such. WOW

Yeah we're talking about that too LOL. Lots of USC crappola going on.

He was released from jail earlier this week! That list of obligations must have been short.

USC fans are already MAJORLY downplaying both events. Here's the general consensus from what I've read:

1. On Vehikite, he actually got released from jail about 6 5-6 weeks ago, but there were visa issues so the govt made him stay in. Most USC fans are lauding Kiffy for sticking to his word and giving Vehikite a second chance and a chance to graduate, and that Simmons knew the deal when he got his scholly that it was a one year renewal deal, and that he's fine with it. One fan on a premium board had the nerve to praise Kiffy but also hope that "this wasn't another Michael Floyd situation" (WTF??? They better hope it's a Floyd situation. I'm real tight on time nowadays but it took all my might not to respond to that idiot). So trust me, most USC fans are cool with it, and the few that aren't are being shouted down by the large majority.

2. On Armstead, they are all blaming the dad and calling him a liar and every other name in the book. They are also questioning how the dad could deny for over a year that his son did NOT have a heart problem, but is now claiming that he did. Again, USC did nothing wrong in this situation either.

So trust me, USC fans are sleeping real tight tonight. They (most of them) see nothing wrong with anything USC did in these two cases. Par for the course...

This my friends, is hopefully the beginning of the end for Lame Kitten. Hayden has to be losing sleep these days. If he's not, he's a POS just like Kiffy.

Hey Pat, take off the skirt, put on your big boy pants, and do what you said you'd do. Geesh.

I honestly wonder... if they get hit for something again that goes back to the current proby... will the NCAA have any other choice but to pull the cord?? It'll get real interesting if something big comes public within the next year or so...

On my iPad right now but just checked the NBC sports app and they have an article up bout this now too. Put up bout 15 min ago.

I got this EXACT same response from a USC fan from another bored I go to. I was about to respond to it, but after reading your post I decided against it lol.

Brady Hoke suspended Fitz for the (arguably) most important game of the season (I say arguably because a Big Ten championship, etc. could be more meaningful) for a DUI that was plead down to a misdemeanor driving while impaired.

Lane Kiffin doesn't suspended a reserve linebacker for a meaningless game against Hawai'i after the linebacker was convicted on two felonies, served 3.5 months of a year sentence in jail, and just got out of prison.

I've always loathed Michigan more than USC.... but this is the kind of thing that makes me respect Hoke a lot more and hate Kiffin as a human being even more than I thought was possible.

Oh, and that "no walkthrough" thing is absurd.

I didn't really see anything positive in the article about Kiffin, in fact it was pretty negative towards him.

In his tweet he said "Why I am rooting for Lane Kiffin this year," and linked the article. I didn't even read it. Guess I should prolly do that next time.
