Kelly has definitely changed his approach since then, and its paid off. Only complaint would be being in it with more top 50 recruits at the end of the cycle but that will probably come with winning. If we can't start to consistently get elite talent after the last couple years we aren't going to take the next step.

I think the coaching staff is not pushing guys into a commitment like they’ve done in the past. They are getting kids who genuinely want to be at Notre Dame which is lowering the amounts of decommits as well. I also think that if ND is shopping in the top 50 aisle then you could see some decommitments and drama because that comes with the territory for top 50 recruits is they continue to be recruited really hard and some have trouble with that. I think it takes a while for a staff to get adjusted to Notre Dame and the demands it requires of the student athletes. So far ND has found a happy median to it but I’m sure they’d like to continue to improve it (add top 50 guys too).

Are you talking about the Armsteads? They're brothers but not twins. I remember the rumour being that they were thinking about committing/transferring at one point.

Oh, that was bananas. One was a 5Y from USC shopping himself around, the other was a stud high school senior. They were sort of a package deal and the older one almost came to Notre Dame, which meant Little Bro was coming too. But had some sort of medical problem and we couldn't take him. He wound up suing USC while the younger brother flipped to Oregon and eventually wound up a first round draft pick. But there was a brief moment in the depths of January when they were both bound for South Bend and we were going to be stacked on the DL. Those were the days.

The older bro’s medical issue was wild. Heart attack at USC from painkillers given to him by team docs. No one would clear him to play (understandably) and he went to CFL and was great for a year then went to Patriots practice squad but I don’t think ever made it before Pats released him and he retired.

Speaking of weird ones, Isaiah McKenzie.

Can you imagine what the ND coaches were thinking when IM announced that he was committing to ND?

The McKenzie thread has to be the #1 overall for entertainment purposes. Comes in a solid second behind "Question about a girl" for all-time great thread.

Top crazy/bizzare/weird/exciting recruitment threads. In no particular order.
1. Isaiah McKenzie
2. Eddie Vanderdoesn't
3. Tee Shepard
4. Gunner Kiel
5. Devonte Neal
6. Alex Anzalone

I lurked on IE for a long time, primarily through the '12 recruiting cycle because it looked like it was gonna be insane, and because that's when IE had insiders dropping actual breaking news about impending commits... it's wild that this place used to have posters that were scooping the ND recruiting beat guys lol.

I ultimately signed up so I could dish on BK and how he was going to use Davonte Neal in his offense, and to clear up some misconceptions about his time at UC.

I thought we were gonna see the first-round, national-champion version of Mardy Gilyard when Neal committed.

Damn- this thread is a nice trip down memory lane!

'10-'13 were the golden years of IE.

From the inside info, to the bad info, to the fights, to the arguments (hello, "who's wife is hotter" and "who is and what defines a Polynesian"), to the wild recruitment sagas, to the high school kids talking shit to posters, to the jokes and humor, to the 25 posters who posted that the one kid got a michigan state offer*, to the overall board camaraderie, to the white WR comparisons, to Bruce Heggie, IE truly was a must for me and others on a daily basis.

*Who was that recruit? I can't remember. And for newer posters (and those who forgot), that is the actual genesis to the importance of a "michigan state offer"- not that we actually care if a kid has a michigan state offer, or gauge it as having any more or less validity than other offers. It just became a running gag from people reporting a michigan state offer and running with it.

The dude from St Louis did it when he first joined- I remember him ripping on OMM and a few others. He did stop doing it, turned things around, and became a solid poster (he was one of the subscription guys too and brought a lot of that info to the board).

Beau was always Beau.

I probably over-exaggerated that statement of talking shit- ha! I do remember Arrow and PA posting during high school (literally, during school sometimes) and the board sort of collectively having to talk them off the ledge, put things in perspective, and/or correct them on multiple occasions.

They all turned out to be solid guys.

I see, I thought you meant high school athletes talking shit to posters lol.

I know we have been referenced/screen-grabbed on Twitter a few times by recruits and parents, but I thought I missed some juicy drama with a recruit.

Always love when a thread from 2011-2013 pops up and I can read my awful takes from High School. I'll die on the hill that Zeke Pike should have been a 5 star tho.

Dude was a train-wreck, a natural disaster, and an all-time POS all rolled into one.

He was a 4-star recruit because of his size, and because the SEC coaches at the camps he went to liked the idea of a 6-4 250 QB that also played DE for his high school team, and also because of his family ties.

I thought he might have a chance to develop if he stayed out of trouble, but he couldn't do it... but now he makes bank speaking to high schoolers about the lessons he learned while being a total POS.

Can you imagine how arrogant and awesome IrishPat would be if ND won a title?

I need to find that photo we made about you.
