My God, this is the greatest football game of all time and an awesome watch.

I hadn't watched it completely through since that day, so there were a lot of things I had forgotten about.

1. Pete Carroll elected to not use instant replay during the game, and USC won because of it. They would have reviewed Lienart's fumble and put the ball closer to the 5 yard line where it went out of bounds. Not inside the one. USC likely kicks a field goal and the game goes into overtime.

2. I didn't realize how much ND dominated time of possession. Really the only reason ND was in the game. Weis coached it brilliantly.

3. Zbikowski's punt return for TD (after a very loud defensive three & out) was probably the loudest ND stadium has ever been.

4. Reggie Bush was a God. Watch him on that first TD run and pretty much every other time he touches the ball. So shifty, it's unreal.

Man I had been looking for this full version for ever! One of my favorite games and the most pumped I had been for a football game. The crowd was insane.

I was in the Air Force at the time and sitting in the food court of our bases BX. I was the only ND fan in there. I was hype most of the game and when it was 4th down I knew ND would win.

Then the heartbreaking pass and the subsequent incorrect spot of the fumble. I was heart broken. If I was 21 at the time I would have got wasted, haha

I came close again in '11 when Michigoon beat ND in the last 20 secs, but the sadness turned to a blind rage which I had to take care of by taking a stroll outside...

I will not discuss in polite society what I did after the Michigan game. This game, I was at least soothed by the high-mindedness of knowing the better team on the field that day was wearing blue and gold. And that Cheat Pete didn't beat us that day straight up. Bush's Heisman being taken back was like frosting on this cake; rules broken on the field aside.

Same here. Half the student section was on the field before the refs decided to put time back in the clock. So there I was on the sideline watching Bush push Leinart in and pure ecstasy turned to complete sadness. GITF wept.

I think a few of you guys remember my story from after the Michigan game in 2011. Lets put it this way, alcohol was consumed and the fire department was called. I wish i was kidding

Most heartbreaking game I've ever been to. So many **** ups by the PAC 10 refs at the end. I can admit when we lose a close game because of our own mistakes...this was not one of those. From the push, which IS illegal and the PAC 10 decided they just weren't going to enforce the rule anymore (Who makes that call?), the fumble spot, and the USC coach calling for a timeout when they had none left (Should have resulted in a 5 yard delay of game penalty). We were the better team on that day, and unfortunately karma came back to bite USC later as that season ended up getting wiped away by sanctions...like it never happened.

Nothing says "Get fired up for Michigan" like watching one of the most gut-wrenching losses ever...and a loss to USC none-the-less.

That game isn't ranked in my Top 20 of epic ND games. I suppose if Weis had had one impressive win, or hadn't coached the worst ND team in modern history (2007) I would feel differently.

As it is every big game- USC 2005/OSU Bowl game/Michigan 2006/LSU Bowl game- he lost. Then, he began to get embarrassed by the good teams and lost to Navy twice, got pounded by Air Force/Purdue/Syracuse and every other dog team out there.

So, I don't even watch that game.

I did watch the 1980 ND/Michigan game last night. Great game and win coached by Devine, who won his share of big games in his tenure at ND.

I agree--i've never heard anything like that. somebody posted this over on reddit/r/cfb Clemson vs. Miami - YouTube and i found it really interesting too. Its a comparison of crowd noise taht comes through on TV vs on the field (at Clemson). Really loud toward the end during a big 3rd down play. I think ND stadium was at least that loud during 05 USC.

I will never watch that game again... that game and the 2011 Michigan game are easily the two most impactful loses I have had as a fan... both crushed me much more than any game should.

I honestly don't know how an ND fan could say that is one of their favorite games. I almost punched my roommate in the face after he started laughing when Leinart scored. One of the worst feelings after a game I have ever had.
