How Urban Broke Florida Football

That is funny about history repeating itself; they were about Tressel and his hijinks at Youngstown State, too. That was just all a mistake and officials were being too harsh

O$U makes me sick. Talk about a superiority complex...

almost choked when I saw the byline on this article. Who knew Matt Hayes could do decent reporting??

Sporting News is a pretty reputable outfit to be going after Meyer. It doesn't have the exposure of ESPN or Sports Illustrated, unfortunately, but it isn't like its Bleacher Report coming out with this stuff.

Agree. I couldn't read more than a few comments because it was littered with O$U idiots posting "haters gonna hate" and "Sporting News still exists?" SN is superior to SI from a journalistic standpoint, but SI is smart enough to dumb down their publication with tons of pictures and swimsuit issues.

This guy is the one that was tweeting Heuerman a lot. He also hung around the spots where the players hung out and became friends with them.

yeah an OSU blogger just posted something about how creepy he was last week, before it became known that he was a sex offender.

So basically Urban's going to win a couple National Championships for OSU then "retire" when the house comes crashing down again?

How is this a win for us?
I think most OSU fans would take that deal.

Yeah, the only fans in the country that wouldn't take that are delusional ND fans who pretend they wouldn't take two National Titles and a bit of scandal...

Because the ends justify the means, right?

I doubt many alumni feel that way.

In the current climate of college football... ... ... yeah.

This climate of college football will cycle. I don't give a crap if 20 years from now someone gives me crap about ND not having a title in the BCS era, because the BCS era will be known for a time of cheating, a time of when ethics failed. I truly believe that we are at the tail end of a dark time in college football. The oversigning, the cheating, the institutional lack of control will all level out to a normalized level. It is not a coincidence that the schools most known for this type of behavior have dominated the game during this era. It's been accepted, and when that changes (and it will), you will see the traditional powers rise again.

Notre Dame stands for excellence.... and excellence is never achieved through cheating.

I agree... sort of anyway, not sure if this will eventually level out... but I do believe most fans/alums on this board, or anywhere, would sing a different tune if we won two or more titles under BK then got hit for something... no?

I honestly believe many stand on the whole "we do it the right way" thing because that's all there is to stand on these days... that's all. Give the same crowd a national title to stand on and the way won't matter anymore, at least for most.

If scandals are happening after the fact, then there would surely be lots of justification, rationalizing, etc. It's simply human nature. But looking forward? I don't personally know any alumnus who would willingly tarnish the Golden Dome for a title or two, though I'm sure there are many casual fans who would make that trade in a heart-beat.

I honestly believe many satnd on the whole "we do it the right way" thing because that's all there is to stand on anymore... and that's it.

I don't think so. Alumni have more at stake in the school's reputation than simple bragging rights.

BCS Era in CFB = Steroid Era in MLB.

You mean the era that brought all the fans back to the game and allowed the league to turn a blind eye to what was going on? And, btw, what finally forced their hand? Government intervention. How do you all feel about government involvement?

and also the one that destroyed the integrity of the hall of fame in addition to tarnishing all of the best stars of a 20 year era? Or were you talking about the fact that Barry Bonds is now the record holder for homeruns, completely shitting all over the history of the game?

Fans would have came back regardless of the homeruns. They left because of the lockout and would have slowly came back. The rush was because America was completely fleeced by a bunch of idiots that thought the next big contract was more important than the integrity of the game.

As a lifelong baseball fan, I couldn't disagree with you more...

So you believe Sosa v McGwire was good for the game long term? With those numbers, they are locks for the HOF, oh wait, maybe not. You believe Bonds numbers in the batters box being the only thing growing at a faster rate than his hat size is or was good for the game? Louis Gonzales and Brady Anderson going for 50 Hr's in a season was just an indicator of how far the game had advanced? Come on, it was a F***ing sham. BCS equivalent? Where do I start? Do I just point to the $EC or do you need evidence of inconsistent punishments and blatant protection of the Golden Geese of CFB. Things need to change.
