I've held on to my weight loss pretty well even with the holidays. I haven't lost, but I haven't gained :) I'm enjoying the hiking and yoga a lot. How about you?

I have stayed at 200 which I'm happy with. But man has my strength increased. My max for bench press in October was 135(WEAK!) and now it's 200 and climbing. My max for dumbell curls was 70 in October, now it's 115. I also run/walk 2.5 miles a day

Hey Guys,
An update on my journey....after the Irish Loss in the Championship game I was so pissed and had to reevaluate my priorities. Well after talking to those close to me, we decided that my weight has become an bigger issue. Snoring, out of breadth, grouchy, tired, irritable....something had to change. So ON 1/7/13 I decided to stop kickboxing and get back to the basics. 1. Diet - I am on the South Beach diet. Really a healthy version of low carb. 2. Exercise - I am walking 1.5 miles every day and following up with strength training. Results are I am down from 233 to 214....I sleep better, my knees don't hurt, no snoring and I feel a lot better.

I hope you all are doing well. Remember its a Marathon not a sprint.

Good for you my man! I'm 5'8' and just weighed in at 180. About 3 years ago I went off and hit 230 and just felt horrible every day. I got on a good program of diet and exercise, got down to 190 and hovered between that and 195 for a while.. where I eventually stopped working out but didn't eat as bad.

My goal is 170. Like you, I just started slow with walking about 2 miles a day, followed by light weight training/stretching and it's worked great. The more time and patience you give the process at the beginning, the more it pays off in the end. I'm feel like I've been able to knock the rust off and start pushing it harder now.

I drink a ton of water, breakfast is my biggest meal and fruit is all I snack on.

I began my exercise and diet program in early January and am down to 230 from 250. My goal is to get to 200 by mid-summer.

Congrats to all of you who have made the commitment and stuck with your plan. I'm sure you guys realized, especially me, that the hardest part is getting used to the healthy routine and exercising on a daily basis. I always told myself that I would start working out but my commitment wouldn't last any longer than 2 weeks. The in October 2012 something changed, since then I have worked out every single day besides four of those days.

Seeing results for the first time feels great and I was really proud of myself. What was even better is that on Super Bowl Sunday people were starting to notice my body transformation. Now I can't wait for the warmer weather to get here so I can see what my body looks like then.

To those of you who can't stay committed, just keep going. It sucks, I know it does. For the first couple weeks it seems like you are just beating yourself up and you aren't getting any results. Once week 4 comes around you will start to feel a little different(in a good way) and that just gives you more motivation to keep going.

Although I have not exercised since prior to Christmas and my crazy schedule right now, I have still maintained my weight (I initially lost 33 lbs) and am still not smoking.

Once my school is done in April, I plan to do either Insanity or P90x. Any suggestions? Preferences. Looking to add muscle and lose body fat.

I weigh the exact amount that I did 25 years ago when I graduated from college...202lbs. problem is i'm a mushball now. Starting to run and do light weights...I find that my appetite is elevating.

I'm down twenty. My brother has gone paleo and dropped 15 in like two weeks. It's insane.

I was thinking about doing paleo for a month before spring break. Has he had any side effects like bad moods or fatigue or anything like that?

Nope. My whole family is actually doing it and I think the five of use are down like 105lbs from January 1. I'm doing what I'll call a pseudo-Paleo because I still drink beer and whatnot haha Ohio State will do that to you... (and on that note, if you haven't been to Dan's Deli at the Gateway when you're out and hammered you're doing yourself a major disservice haha).

The only side effect I've felt is serious carb withdrawal. Like, I would murder someone for something as simple as pad thai right now haha but I just drink a lot of water and that combats it.

My sleeping and mood are wayyyy better. Fatigue is basically nonexistent now. My whole family agrees on all of that.

Sweet I might try it. Dan's deli is always my go to for sure when I'm drinking up that way.

Update for me:

I have not been as diligent on drinking water and my craving have come on like a title wave. Would kill a stranger for a carb.....so I am going increase my H2O and see what happens.

I'm about ready to start. I have been working out for a few months now and have lost a few pounds but now I'm at the point where I've hit a weight loss plateau and need to change it up.
Profile
Hieght-5’7”
Weight- 157
Goal- lose 5-8 pounds.
Plan of Action- more weight training and add more cardio to the beginning and end of my work outs. I may hire a trainer, not sure yet.
Good luck to those engaged in their own weight lose endeavor!

Just a small tip. A friend of mine who is now in med school did a study as an undergrad.... He found that during his workouts, he would burn ~100 more calories if he weight lifted before his cardio (treadwell) rather than after. The theory is that if you weight train after, let's say 3 miles, you don't lift as hard. If you lift first then you do the 3 miles regardless, so you don't sacrifice effort.

^Tend to agree. You're not more than 80% of normal strength if you do cardio first. So you're not getting the hypertrophy. But at the end your glycogen storage is depleted so you're burning fat just as well by saving the cardio for later.

Alright, I know I'll get in better shape in the summer, but I want to do it now. 5-10 pounds in the next 90 days. Let's go.

Don't eat after dinner. It's a game changer

I always know I could be so fit if I just didn't have all the awful eating and drinking habits I have like eating after dinner, lots of pop and sugar, eating quickly, at weird times...you name it.

This rule is almost impossible for me to follow right now, I really need to get back into eating habits. I don't really do meals right now, too busy, I just eat when I can. It's really throwing off my internal clock.

Actually doing it is a lot easier said than done. If you are doing everything you listed, you will probably go through withdrawals. I went through withdrawals but they stopped after about a week.

You can eat and drink all you want. Just make sure it's healthy and make sure some if it is protein. Fiber doesn't hurt either.

As far as drinking sweet things. Water mixed with Crystal Light is a great way to go. It's got great flavors, it's sugar free, and the great thing about it is that your body doesn't know it's sugar free.

Girlfriend bought appletini crystal light one time... I was hesitant to say the least, but it tastes like drinking an apple blow pop.
