I'm super curious to see how this Kelly/UCLA thing plays out:
-My gut tells me he has to hit success right off the bat and if he struggles to 5-7 wins in year one he may have great difficulty moving forward.
-IF he does have success early does he stay long term or is this an avenue to something else?
He lost THREE PAC games in his four years at Oregon, and he lost those three by a combined 15 points (one loss was in OT). He really only lost one game by a wide margin, and that was the LSU game in Texas stadium. The teams who had success against him at Oregon
dominated the trenches and played disciplined, and I don't see enough depth in the trenches or well coached, disciplined teams in the PAC, outside of Washington and Stanford, to stop him from having success at UCLA.
Say what you want about his personality, but he can flat out coach. In my opinion, he's one of three elite coaches in college ball - Saban, Meyer, Chip and everybody else. I completely understand why some people would disagree, given his lack of titles. Just my opinion.
