This is the mentality that will keep us from improving from where Brian Kelly had the program. (FWIW, Kelly has no such issues of stacking his QB room at LSU).

I think this staff is either not smart or just too nice.

I didn't say it did. It really depends on the transfer.

Some grad transfers, for understandable reasons, will only go somewhere they're assured of starting. They don't want to have to compete for the job. If you take one of those you'd better be pretty confident that guy is going to be better than what we've already got, because there's a good chance Buchner transfers if he doesn't even have a shot to be our starting QB next year.
For, I dunno, Caleb Williams, you make that trade. For Kedon Slovis? I'm not sure you do.

We should take a transfer next year and we should take one who's willing to come here in the spring and compete for the job. Stock up the QB room, have a wide open competition, best man wins. That's clearly the move. But anointing a one-year rental (who is probably only transferring b/c he's not starting at his current program) as QB1 before he sets foot on campus, and in the process losing a talented quarterback with three years remaining, is not necessarily an upgrade.

I am also really interested in the answer to your real question. I thought it was the most significant portion of the podcast. Prister seemed to agree with him as well.

If the administration at ND does lighten up on the transfer requirements for incoming students that is huge for ND football.

Decided to not hurt Buchner’s feelings or decided not to promise the job to someone like Kedon Slovis who they did not believe to be better than Buchner?

Either way they should have taken one. And they should take one for next year. But chasing off Buchner in the process does not necessarily make the roster better.

The run game was nonexistent in the first two games. I feel like with estime and diggs going, he could be the foundation of a viable offense.

He was still the leading tackler, and at least one of those targeting calls was suspect. Morrison had a huge impact in two games, but it was still two games.

It’s inexcusable still, but Marshall truly was an awful matchup for us. Not a great team but very good at a few things that they exploited against us.

Not sure, we are just waiting on the ACC to release the dates for conference games at this point. It was released January 31 last year.
