https://notredame.rivals.com/news/notre-dame-fighting-irish-football-camp-preview-10-to-1

link above uses history as a reason for optimism in reloading on defense.

6:
6 Starters back on defense: ends Khalid Kareem and Julian Okwara, linebacker Asmar Bilal (rover last year), safeties Jalen Elliott and Alohi Gilman, and cornerback Troy Pride Jr. The unit has no starting experience at tackle, where it lost a first-round selection in Jerry Tillery, is in complete reconstruction at linebacker minus 2017-18 mainstays Drue Tranquill and Te'von Coney, and needs to replace a consensus All-American cornerback in Julian Love.

On the bright side, the top Notre Dame defense over nearly the past 40 years (the 2012 unit) went into the year needing to replace a three-year starting lineman (Ethan Johnson), a Freshman All-American pass rushing terror (Aaron Lynch), a top edge player at linebacker (Darius Fleming) who was drafted, both cornerbacks (Robert Blanton and Gary Gray) and a first-round safety (Harrison Smith).

They had an insanely weak schedule last year and then proceeded to destroy two of the best teams in the country in the playoffs.

Bama had this a few years too... not that Clemson wasn't the best team, but it certainly helps to not have to strain yourself throughout the season long grind the way most everyone else does. It's also of note that just about any Clemson or Bama fan you meet will immediately chirp about how "ND ruins cfb because you guys don't play a real schedule" or "only play 12 games, such a crock."

Anyone else catch a glimpse of Clemsons schedule this year? Besides maybe A&M it’s pretty laughable. Yikes...

https://www.espn.com/college-football/team/schedule/_/id/228

I'll have you know A&M is the 11th best team in the country, didn't you read the coach's poll?

I think the nightmare situation for Clemson is losing @Syracuse again. Syracuse's conference schedule is also thin, so chances are they make the CCG and that leaves Clemson 11-1 against a whole lot of unimpressive opponents.

Not saying this is the reason why, but it helps when you don’t have the stress of a tough schedule throughout the season. It can definitely wear on the body and the mind. Especially when you factor in they can’t only focus on football and recovery while in school.

Also their two “toughest” games - A&M and Syracuse - are early. Even if they lose one they’ll have plenty of time to bounce back via the eye test.
Big picture though, the ACC being so weak doesn’t leave Clemson a lot of wiggle room when they do occasionally drop one. Could use FSU and Miami being good again just for the marquee win potential.

Kind of low to me - what's you all's thoughts?

128. LOUISVILLE: JAWON PASS
Pass’ accuracy was an effort in futility a season ago and he finished with an adjusted completion percentage of just 63.7%. He returns as the second lowest-graded full-time quarterback from a year ago and will have to improve to keep his job this season. Pass is entrenched as the starter at this point with an injury to backup Malik Cunningham unlikely to create much competition.

I hope for at least 5 INTs

I think of that Ronnie Woo-Woo every time someone calls him Wu. Get the the whole student section WOO-ing like that every time he makes a play - that could be obnoxious.

Way too low. Book is a top 10 QB, and IMO, better than that.

He doesn't have the physical frame of Justin Herbert or Sam Ehlinger or the pure arm talent of Trevor Lawrence, but he is a neurosurgeon in the short/intermediate pass game, is incredibly cerebral and a great leader.

I'd say Book has a legit argument for third best QB behind Tua and Lawrence. Herbert has greater upside, but Book was the better passer last season. Fine and King had stellar stats, but both played weak schedules. Ehlinger, see Herbert. Costello? Really? Book completely outpeformed him in their head to head, and he loses his entire receiving corp and top RB from last season. Tate took a huge dive last season under Sumlin. He's a stellar athlete, but not a great passer. Fromm is similar to Book, but I think Book has more athleticism and ability to improv when on the run. Fromm's gonna have to adjust to losing his top 4 receivers from the last 2 seasons.

Book is coming into this year underrated, and has a quality opportunity to make a ton of "experts" eat major crow.

the number 3 quarterback in college football would have put up more than 3 points against clemson. not acting like the clemson defense wasn't a complete juggernaut, and i like book, but come on. as much as he is fantastic in the short passing game, he really struggles pushing the ball down the field.

Your number two QB only put up 16 points vs Clemson (none in the second half) with two interceptions. Maybe he should get dropped in the standings too. Does anyone really think that ANY QB would have put up impressive numbers vs Clemson at that time of the year?

Fellas, these are college fantasy football rankings lol.

Ian is better than many of the guys ahead of him, but he's not going to put up video game numbers like some of them do in their systems, and he doesn't have a schedule that is soft overall like other guys.

Costello is going to put up monster numbers passing the ball, probably, because that's what Stanford has to do now. Herbert is gonna put up video game numbers at Oregon because of the system. Ehlinger is going to throw deep TD's and score 1-yard rushing TD's all year against crap Big XII defenses. Those guys are more valuable in *College Fantasy Football* because of stats.

Ian will put up some nice stats this year, I'm sure, and hopefully ends up better than the 18th scoring QB... but with our defense and the way Long's offense seems to spread the wealth in the redzone, it's unlikely that he will outscore some of those guys in the top 10, regardless of how well the year goes for ND.
