I don't want to start another thread just on the topic of Wimbush's passing statistics and averages; at some point I made the statement Wimbush reminded me of Tony Rice in many ways. The biggest difference is it is now the read-option, back in the 80's it was basically the option. This is mainly for those of you not as 'long in the teeth' as me and a few others on here.

My point is you don't have to be a prolific passer to run this Irish team. He HAS gotten better. In the fourth, there was a blatant hold on Boykin that could have been Six.

But he is a General out there right now and running this Irish machine.

You're correct, we don't need a prolific passer. Wimbush has definitely improved over the season, and he easily had 6 with Boykin on that pass. One difference though, is he is actually a much more polished passer than Rice, very evident based on their TD:INT ratios.

It's fair to make the comparison, sure. I do see a brighter passing future for Wimbush on the horizon.

Everything about that video is awesome.

I love how intense the refs were back then, too. They were jumping on the piles and signaling frantically after every play, as if to say "I saw it! I saw it! I've got the ruling!" Quite the difference from today, where some games seemingly have a referee summit after every 3 plays.

89 years ago today, Knut Rockne gave his famous "Gipper" speech to the boys at halftime vs Army. The score was tied 0-0, and Coach needed a way to motivate his players. As we all know, Notre Dame prevailed over Army that day, November 10, 1928.

The "fight, fight, fight, fight, fight" one (from the Rudy scene) never actually happened. It's University propaganda. Fake news, if you will.

Knute Rockne was the consummate showman. He used various forms of media to promote himself, his football team, and his school, the University of Notre Dame. At some point, the date is unclear, but most likely in the late 1920s, he recreated (or more accurately performed) a pep talk for the newsreels. This speech was not for any particular game or situation, but instead showed Rockne's general motivational techniques with his players.

By the end of the season, all of our opponents on this years schedule, except for North Carolina, could be .500 or better.

That would have to be close to some kind of record. Given how conference scheduling usually works, I would think it would be next to impossible for a team in a conference to play 11 teams that finished with a .500 record or better.

130 years ago tonight, Thanksgiving Eve 1887 two former ND students who had flunked out and were forced to attend Ann Arbor community college, set up a scrimmage with their former school. After much cheating by the Ann Arbor Weasels, they were declared the winner of this exhibition.

So happy 130th birthday ND Football.
