Thank the Lord that this latter post was about general team information and not ragging on Kelly (which should go in the Brian Kelly revisited thread.) Forgive an old man, but I'd like to read threads which told me something about the team and the upcoming season. Could we separate them from the speculative bitching contests?

Technically, the conversation occurring in this thread about fundraising is "general team info." They are discussing the generalities of how fundraising at ND works.

The "bitching" has been relegated pretty well to the appropriate thread.

Doesn't ND require all funds to be raised prior to starting any work and all updates and new construction is fully funded by donations? I don't believe other programs follow that same path.

Same "problem" in North Dakota. Cash in hand prior to breaking ground.

It's an open practice, where a majority of it will be a live scrimmage. It's going to be similarly setup like the Blue and Gold game, except it will be offense versus defense. I think it's 4-15 min. Periods with running clock.

I would like to see them run an up tempo offense. This is the perfect time to practice it.

I will be there. Going early to take the tours of the new facilities...at least what you can tour since some of the construction will not be completed until January.

I'm pretty sure they've been practicing that tempo since Spring. So, I would assume they'll show some of it on Saturday.

Coach Brian Kelly was on Weekday Sportsbeat on WSBT Radio tonight answering questions for an hour. I missed most of it, but it should be up here later tonight:

Sportsbeat Podcast | WSBT Radio

A couple of things I did get...

- NCAA says Navy has until Monday to file any last bit of info/documentation in the Gilman situation. Kelly thinks they should hopefully have a decision by Wednesday.

- Sunday they are having an open 90 minute scrimmage in the stadium and he expects Alize' to have about 9 to 12 plays. Says he is ready but doesn't want to push it at this point. Also loved where he was in the head.

Interesting. So basically Mike Frank continues to be a blow hard douche finding the worst in every situation and about half of this board wrote a super talented kid off before the season even started with 0 evidence.

You're taking Brian Kelly at his word? Do you really need me to go through the lies and exaggerations he has told about his players and the program since he's been here? There's LOTS.

Mack may be a stud this year (here's to hoping), but Kelly is a master at coach-speak. Unless you still believe that Darius Fleming "can cover both the quarterback AND the running back on the option" and many other fairy tales BK's told, I would take his quote about Mack with a giant grain of salt.

I was going through old game stats while bored, and the names in these receiving figures jumped out at me. All seven of these guys ended up playing in the NFL (at least a bit), and four of the seven have legitimately excelled. Despite all that talent, we still managed to lose this game (2009 vs Michigan) and were a mediocre team at best all year. Makes more sense, though, when you remember that the two QBs in that game throwing these guys the ball were Dayne Crist and Nate Montana (yikes). Just goes to show what everyone's already been saying -- the 2017 team goes only as far as Wimbush takes them.

Tommy threw a pick if I remember correctly. It was some dumb trick play.

The receiving stats graphic and the description of QBs Crist, Montana, (and Rees) was for the 2010 UM game not 2009. The '09 game had Clausen as QB in another close loss.

On ND's first drive Crist scored on a QB sneak/keeper. UM's first drive went nowhere and UM punted. On ND's next possession Crist didn't take the field and the announcers didn't know why. Later they said Crist was dizzy from a hit on the TD run. Apparently he didn't mention it to the coaches or trainers. So when he couldn't play, as I recall, Rees was sent on the field with no warmup. A true freshman.

The first play in the ND series was a run. Next ND faked a run left, and UM's MLB broke to his right to cover the run. The RB however pitched back to Rees as part of a Flea Flicker (Henges trick play). UM's MLB quickly reversed field and ran back to his left, toward his vacated space. Meanwhile the ND receiver was coming from the right side crossing across the middle on a slant. The UM MLB running back crossed in front of the ND receiver, made the INT, and returned the ball about 10 yds. UM's Robinson threw a TD pass on the next play.

Rees may have run another series in the 1st half with Montana, also playing in his first college game, played the rest of the 1st half. Crist returned in the 2nd half and ND had the game lead with about 2 minutes left. Robinson then worked his magic for the win.

ND had over 500 yards of total offense and won that stat but lost the war. Robinson had over 500 yards of offense by himself as the ND couldn't contain him.

Yes he's a master of coach-speak for sure. But it's almost always used as a motivator. He's not going to say he loves x3 a guys attitude if he's dogging it or believes he's faking an injury. Especially when their whole message is about effort attitude and the details. It would be counterproductive to the team and Alize.

Again, ISD went out on a limb and trashed a kid with no hard evidence to support it. They were wrong and need to eat crow here. If you're going to talk shit about the team you follow and thus allows you to make your living, you better be pretty damn sure your right. It was irresponsible.

Did they write something about him because what was said on Power Hour wasn't what I would call "trashing". They did question his commitment to being a great player. Hard to disagree with that especially after he was ineligible last year.

I listened to Power Hour and I was quite disappointed in their comments. I wouldn't go so far as to say it was "trashing", but the comments they made were pretty damning to the guy, and IMO, not very well backed.

Mack's grades don't have much to do with his commitment as a player, and to his credit, he busted his tail to get back above surface. There have been some quality players with great work ethics, but they struggle in the classroom because they're adjusting to the college scene. Lord knows I did, and I wasn't a full-time college athlete.

I also find it very hard to believe that Mike and co. said they've never seen him make plays in practice, when the reports were that he was tearing it up this spring and the spring before that? Was that all just a drug-induced hallucination that they forgot? It just doesn't make much sense.

I think there's some truth to their comments about Kmet and Wright catching up with them, but I take that more as a testament to those two's utter talent and how far they've come in such a short time. We have two elite talents right there, but Mack's no chopped liver.

Mack goes for 80 yards on 3 catches up the middle against Temple and all is well...

Nope, not even close to what was said and who said it.

You're right, I got the names completely wrong on the lookback. All three were pretty down on Mack, though Jamie wasn't as concerned about his injury or his demeanor. Mike was pretty much set on this being do or die for Mack, and Matt was disappointed with what he's seen from Mack so far in practice, which Jamie didn't agree with at all.

I don't get this take. I listen to Power Hour consistently and Mike seems pretty balanced to me. We're talking about a program that has averaged 5 losses a year, the last four years and is coming off the 2nd worst season since 1963. It's not all sunshine and roses. There are issues with this team and I appreciate when reporters actually give their honest opinions. The whole discussion about the TEs and Mack started with Mike gushing over the two Freshmen TEs, not exactly "Debbie Downer" speak. I'm expecting a pretty good season but I also expect us to struggle at times and at certain positions.

I'm with you on this. Mike can be negative but I don't find his positions absurd. There are real questions going into this season, we'll see how they are answered soon.

Congrats to Mike Elston and Brian Polian on the promotions! Hopefully that means more green in their paychecks as well. Both are tremendous recruiters.

And another great recruiting hire. This was talked about on here before.

But is he wrong? I listen to his podcast and then I compare it to BGI and they are remarkably different. BGI pumps you up every year like this ND team is the greatest thing since sliced bread, and ISD actually attempts to acknowledge the flaws with the current team.

Theres a difference between pointing out flaws and calling a kid out after watching bits and pieces of 3 practices. He played today and I know he had at least one catch. I wouldn't be surprised if he is second on the team in catches this season.

That's fine. ND football (to me anyway) is supposed to be fun and if you don't like listening to the more negative stuff than I respect that. My point is, this isn't 1989 and Mike's not complaining about Holtz's passing game or margin of victory. We're coming off of a 4-8 season and really 4 straight seasons where you could argue that we underperformed (2015, probably not). We have lots of question marks and he points out some of them.
