Notre Dame: Brian Kelly dismisses the NFL speculation | CSN Chicago

BK's quote:

"I don't know how to stop that other than to say there's no other place, first of all, in college that I would want to coach. No. 2, I get to pick the players that play for me, I get to negotiate the contracts. I've got the salary cap, I've got all that. In the NFL, you don't get to do any of that. Look what Chip Kelly's going through. He tries to control all that and he gets killed for it. I can do all that here at Notre Dame.

"…Bill Belichick gets control over that but he's won [four] Super Bowls. I needed to know that to make sure I wanted to do what I was doing. After seeing that and after talking to a number of guys that I know in the NFL, it's crazy."

I don't know how to stop that=there are plenty of ways. like saying no, never going to happen, not ever, not entertaining any NFL prospects. There are ways to stop that.

there's no other place, first of all, in college that I would want to coach.=First of all, usually goes first, and it's not here. Interesting. Not only that, but it's a stall tactic designed to give the speaker an opportunity to create and or shape an answer. In college. That right there speaks volumes. In college there's no other place, nothing about the pros. This is the initial definitive statement that he is open to coach in the pros (in this article only).

Chip Kelly/Belichick=that is not a true answer but an excuse. Further with BB, he is speaking in generalities, using that and do what I was doing, and it's crazy. This could be looking for a Pro job is crazy. The NFL interviews are crazy. A very non-specific yet vague grouping.

Means absolutely nothing (not even the full quote) but I get a kick out of analyzing this stuff. For example, not to pick at a scab, but when LAPD interviewed OJ, they barely kept him (like a 32 minute interview), the number 1 suspect - and not once did they ever ask him if he did it.

Horse is dead. Apologies.

I just cannot see BK being successful at the pro level, although I guess I could see him making a go of it... he's a very good college guy, stick to what you know coach.

I actually see BK being very successful in the NFL. He likes to find matchups and scheme and loves developing programs. He's a systematic thinker and I think he'd be successful in almost any field.

I could be wrong. I thought Chip Kelly wouldn't pan out in the pros and he's had some early success.

I will reserve judgement until after this season on Chip. He had a solid team that he has absolutely dismantled over the past two years. I want to see what the Eagles look like when he puts all the new pieces together. ... Unproven receivers, an injury riddled QB, a revamped secondary and a new linebacker coming off of a major knee injury. I don't see how they could possibly be better than the teams he was winning with. But he s the mad scientist, I guess. We'll see.

For those interested, this weekend is WeishFest 2015. A festival organized to support families dealing with struggles brought on by cancer. From what I'm told, most (if not all) of the ND football team will be there for an autograph session as well as supporting Nic's family.

I've seen this all over my friend's feeds on Facebook because of the Chicago 6 and a lesser extent, Eddie Money. I had no idea it was related to Nic. Wish I was back home so I could attend. Great event, better cause.

Props to the Weishar family for making a difference!

Yea great cause. Should be fun. My friend's neighbors are the Weishers and Nic's dad is the one who told him about it. Still haven't decided if we're going to go. Last minute thing.

As he is...I agree. But I saw Chip Kelly exactly the same way. Now Chip was kinda forced to make the jump, so maybe he was feeling insecure, however, Chip seemed to make the transition, and set a model of sorts for how to do it. He brought in alot of consultants the guys looked up to, and relied on them. He has clearly focused on the GMish role as of late, and went away from heavy teaching to being a CEO and chess player. I don't think he'll be long for the league, but for now he seems to have found a challenge w/o derailing he locker room chemistry.

I think BK might have a harder time with the transition, but I think he would be given alot of rope in a place like Detroit to figure it out.

Notre Dame 2015 FPI - Fighting Irish - ESPN

Here is the ND page for ESPN's computer FPI, which is their power poll. It was actually fairly realistic last season IMO, and right now they have us #18.

Our schedule with the poll's projected win percentage is below. They have us winning 8.5 games and have our schedule ranked as the 29th hardest in the country.

Texas (70.6%)
at Virginia (79.4%)
Georgia Tech (65.8%)
UMASS (95.5%)
at Clemson (45.2%)
Navy (93.1%)
USC (49.6%)
at Temple (69.8%)
at Pittsburgh (65.3%)
Wake Forest (94.0%)
Boston College (86.4%)
at Stanford (40.8%)

Losing at Stanford? I know it's always a tough game, but I expected us to beat them this year and have it not be all that close.

There's no way Stanford is our most difficult game.

To be fair, we're 2-4 against Stanford the last 6 seasons with both wins requiring a last second drive. And we haven't beaten them on the road since 2007. We also have a brand new QB while they are returning one who has been starting since 2012 and has won the Rose Bowl. They've also won 11+ games in 4 of the last 5 seasons, we have done that....one time since 1993.

I think we're better than them this season and that it won't be our toughest game, but I feel like people are underrating Stanford again. They were supposed to fall off when they lost Gerhart...then again when they lost Harbaugh...then again when they lost Luck...and they just keep winning. 8-5 last year was terrible for them and that was with a Double OT loss, the loss to us on the Koyack miracle TD, and losing to USC when they out-gained them by 120+ yards. They're still quite good.

We are also 3-10 (or worse) against USC with only 1 home win.

About 7 years ago my friends dad was the general manager for security company in Ft. Myers, FL and once in a while I'd pick up a shift or two for extra money. I was at the Holiday Inn and Eddie Money and Night Ranger were staying there after a concert. Ended up throwing a few back with them by the pool. Very cool guys.

Rep NCND!

Not to jump your shorts, but I love both of these guys, and I had to put their pictures in the thread!

Every time Lou is involved, I leave smiling. Just a good guy.

And I'm working on my Jaylon response. In my best man voice, nod my head thoughtfully and say "DEEP".

Everybody left that little interview puffed up and ready to go...Even Lou.

I wish I could have seen the percentages for the initial poll when Golson was still on the roster. They were #7 then. Uncertainty is the only thing that dropped the Irish 11 spots. I wonder if they will put the Irish right back up where they were when Malik & Co. truck Texas, UVa and Tech or do they have to go to Clemson to prove something?

Do you really believe we are going to truck all of those teams? We may have a few decisive wins but I highly doubt GT is one of them. Texas will probably be tougher than we are expecting and UVa has some talented players on their roster.

Clemson will probably be a war.

I just don't get the overconfidence. Yes, we have some elite players and we are returning a lot of talent and depth but the lynchpin of a team, the QB, is brand new. We have no clue how Zaire will hold up under the duress of a full college season.

I'm hopeful but dismissive statements of trucking opponents seems a bit....premature? I hope you're right but I don't get where the 'false' confidence is coming from.

It's kind of hard to play Navy, GT, Clemson and USC all in the same month span with NDs front seven depth and just expect nice things... If they can stay healthy on defense and the offense is as good as most here expect, then a team can survive that and win out, but a lot of things have to go right and to me that run mentioned above is where the land mines will probably rear their head...

That's got to be the most brutal opening stretch in college football this year. There are no breaks except for UMass. UMass before Clemson is very nice. But that's it.

Navy sandwiched between Clemson and USC? That's like football scheduling torture.

I would agree... that's not easy at all... if (big ass giant IF) our boys can get through USC with one or fewer loses they should be in real good shape heading into the second half though, assuming they have a functioning defense depth wise and avoid a repeat of last season.

Wish we could play them in an old school Eddie Robinson Classic type of game every year around August 25th and then take Week 1 off. Make it neutral site every season if need be.

Yep. Do that a week earlier so we can take a Bye week 1 and avoid playing Purdue (or whoever) the week after Navy. Playing them in the middle of the season is just bad news and we can't play them during Championship Week since they're in the American now.

There have been rumors in the past about games in Rome or in China. This would be the perfect chance to do that by making the games in late August and not have it hurt our schedule. Win-win with recruiting/exposure for both programs. And a big win for us in terms of keeping Navy in a safe place on the schedule.

Ha! Playing Navy in China would be a great PR move. They might as well have our band shape out the spratley islands during the half time show.
