I just read Deeb but I thought we were told that wasn't the case.

Heard there was some solid info on ISD today re: medicals, etc.

Anyone have access?

It was from a poster, not from ISD. The poster is usually spot on with his info though, and he stated he heard Deeb and Heuerman are getting medical scholarships.

The San Diego game sounds great! Definitely going to try to attend that one.

Refresh my memory, when a player gets a medical scholly, does that mean their careers are over? Or just their seasons?

Careers I thought. This is the first I've heard of Deeb needing one though. Has he had issues in the past?

I could be wrong but I thought the approval of a medical scholly is basically a sixth year of "eligibility" in the sense of the NCAA typically allows 5 years to play 4. I am probably wrong though.. This is one of those rules i never can remember.

Medical scholarship is career ending but still get to attend the university and graduate and be involved in football related activities. Just no playing or anything like that.

Medical redshirt is just for one season and I believe that is what Cackalacky is referring to as far as possibly adding another year of eligibility pending NCAA approval.

Career ending injury allowing the former athlete to get his degree on the university.

A temporary injury causing a season loss falls within the standard 5 years to play 4. A 6th year for additional injury is a one waiver to the 5 year window, i.e. 6 to play 4.

6th years are typically only granted to players that lost 2 years to injury/sickness, where one of the seasons is not a redshirt year that was issued to retain eligibility for a student athlete during their freshman year.. Also, death of or care for an ailing family member that results in the loss of two years of playing time can result in the 6th year waiver being awarded.

I was awarded a 6th year by the NCAA and it was a very tough process to go through even way back when I went through it.

Procrastinating at work, and just gonna drop something in here in anticipation of the season. Two plays in a row against Stanford, ND lined up in a split-slot 2-back set. Two plays in a row, the triple option would have been devastating.

Start watching at the 9:08 mark to see how Golson handled it, and then ask yourself what you think Malik will do with his ability to run the read effectively:

Zaire with Folston/Prosise in the backfield running that would be pretty.

Until Zaire gets hurt and we don't have a starting qb.

There's a reason teams don't run much triple option anymore.

Eh, if it's run properly, he's handing it off or pitching it before he takes a shot. If he keeps it, he's most likely getting tackled one-on-one and will be able to protect himself.

Plus, I'm not saying they need to run it every play. Just enough to make opportunities like the above worthwhile.

On the first play I'm not sure if it goes for huge because there is a linebacker that dives in from the top side that could've stayed home and made a play. On the second play, if Golson kept and then pitched, there would've been a one-on-one for a flat footed safety and the RB. And that's it. Likely TD, minimum 8 yard game unless the safety does something truly spectacular in recovery.

I'm more worried about him getting injured in the pocket than I am on an option or a keeper, but I agree that he shouldn't be carrying it more than 10+ times a game ideally (including scrambles).

Although I'm not going to be complaining if he goes Dak Prescott on USC and carries it 20 times if it gets us the win.

The first play is maybe a TD. There was nothing but Robinson (I think) on top blocking a CB, and the Golson and McDaniels ALONE with the entire Cardinal D walled off in the box. Malik would keep that and let Procise or Folston lead him down the siedline and take care of the FS if he ever shows up because he sure ain't in that frame. My God that looks delicious and against a team that usually plays excellent D.

*I just watched this on my laptop instead of on my phone. The DE did read the hand off and went after the RB but had MZ had been the QB and kept there would have been 5 yards between MZ and the DE. MZ would take one step at him and pitched to the TB who would have been either one on one with the OLB who closed on the FB or maybe the FB gets a block on that OLB if the pulled handoff was bought. I'll take MZ and my TB in motion vs a flat footed DE every time.

The second play, would have been a quick pitch to the the TB and he would have had one on one with the safety who if he makes a great play it's still a 6 yard gain and a first down and if gets juked... it's probably 6 if the WR keeps his block.

Thanks for posting those. I just put on some eye black and now I'm lacing up my cleats then heading to the mall....Click Clack!

They aren't really gonna wear those undershirts... right? They make the jersey look like a 70's Pitt uniform. Bring back the Shamrock undergear from last year.

Agreed, really dislike the undershirt. The ND uniform looks best with minimal ornamentation, in my opinion.
