Production not as important to scouts as it is to you. That said, I think production was the least of his issues.

I think he could go as high as late first round/early second. This year's receiver core is not heavily loaded. He is definitely Top 10 if not Top 5.

Granted, our QB was horrible at passing. The problem with ESB was that he didn't play up to his talent. He regressed this year, and he was beaten on a lot of 1v1 plays that a game-changer should be able to win.

Again, not entirely his fault, but the lack of production is the summation of the "issues" that you reference. At the very least, it's a proxy for "success uncertain at the next level."

He’s not gonna be Jerry Rice but he still has the talent to be a NFL receiver, and I feel many seem to be rooting against him, which I don’t understand.

Don't know about rooting against him. He's just not very good.

Drops balls, plays soft, afraid of contact. Those aren't hallmarks of a good receiver, especially in the NFL.

Chalk me down as someone if I was playing WR, I wouldn’t have that much confidence to lay myself out for a throw from Wimbush either. I would get overwhelmingly discouraged. I’d be scared I’d get my head taken off by a safety on an errant throw.

Is that an attitude concern for EQ? Maybe. But put him in an NFL system with a real QB I think you will see growth in his toughness as well as results. I’ll be rooting for him, even if some are not.

EDIT: not singling anyone out here, just seems to be an heir of sour grapes in regards to EQs departure.

I'm with you, EQ looked to be paralyzed on one ball that got away from Wimbush. He went up and tried to grab it but the DB took his legs out and he landed on his head.

I'm not saying EQ played flawlessly for us, far from it but i think he'll grow into a nice receiver in the league. He has all the necessary tools to be productive.

I have already stated I hope he succeeds, but I also think it's going to be hard to get drafted. I remember two times where if he laid out, he would have had a couple of TD's yet his effort was along the lines of a poor one hand reach and he didn't extend. There was no DB in a position to hit him on those plays. The QB play contributed to his lack of production, but he never displayed the talent he was recognized for having coming out of HS.

While I agree with you, it should be noted that be doesn't have to be top 10 or 12, just top 10 or 12 of WRs declaring for the draft. Probably splitting hairs there, but IMO there could be a relatively significant difference there.

You are missing a zero

His 515 yds receiving and 4 TDS put in squarely in the top 150-200 receivers in FBS ball.

But since he only played 13 games and was only the Number 1 receiver on the squad...he does have excuses.

Exactly. You remember the collection of bozos we had throwing to Michael Floyd in 2010 and 2011? He still managed 1,000 yards in each of those seasons, came back for his senior year when he could have easily left, and played his way into the first half of the first round and a solid NFL career.
I know it’s not trendy when everyone seems to want to cash out after three years, but performance in college matters too, and isn’t a bad indicator of what you’ll do in the NFL.

While I do think ESB was a disappointment this season, he did have 961 yds. and 9 Td's as a sophomore. Those are pretty good numbers for a sophomore WR. How many teams on our schedule have sophomore WR's with that type of production? I don't know the answer but it's probably not many.

This is absurd. There are plenty of successful NFL players that were not stars at the collegiate level. Just as there are stars at the collegiate level that were complete failures in the NFL.

ESB will probably have a solid career in the NFL if he goes to a franchise that can get him to play to his potential. He has the skill set to be productive.

I agree. There are two things that make someone get drafted and that’s production and measurables. He was incredibly productive when someone could get him the ball, and still led the team in receiving stats (except TDs had 4 whereas Stepherson had 5) this year when the QB was lucky to get him the ball. A percieved lack of effort isn’t going to cause him to not get drafted. Close to a hundred catches for just under 1500 yards at over 15 yards per in two seasons and his measurables will get you drafted.

I really hope ESB does well and shocks a lot of us. But I will say this, with the effort I saw from him this year, I'm glad that was Miles Boykin on that last pass because I do not believe ESB would have made the catch.

Expecting ESB to develop an NFL compete level is more absurd than saying he doesn’t have it now.
