Guyana had a bit more of an attack than I expected, though its threat level can be debated. Either way though, I thought Ream looked slow & lost at times, ball watching. Not good when a legit attack comes at them.

I'll be in attendance to see Mexico/Canada tonight. Expecting to see a side really dialed in for this tournament.

Ream is a player I don't understand why Berhalter even considers running him out. I like the guy, but he is past his prime now at a position of great depth for the USMNT with a lot of young options. He will be 35 by time of next World Cup. He is done. Same with Bradley, but I *guess* you could argue that he is still significantly better than Ream ever was at their respective positions and he provides veteran leadership given his 145 caps.

I copied this from a friend of mine. World Cup age in parentheses. I think Tim Ream doesn’t do anything for me. He’s a solid pro but he shouldn’t be getting these minutes because he’s not going to be around for the 2022 World Cup so he’s wasting valuable minutes in search for a LB. I think it should’ve been Daniel Lovitz and Antonee Robinson with Lovitz getting the starts and Robinson as a backup in camp. I think Robinson sucked in his friendly and I get why they benched him but it would be so valuable to have him come and watch, practice and get into a game against a Guyana and Trinidad before letting Lovitz probably get the major games.

I hope Yedlin and Cannon and Lima get the minutes at RB from now on cause Tyler Adams is a bundesliga DM and shouldn’t be playing out of position when they’ve got a solid RB depth chart now. CB I like for now with Zimmerman & Long. Hopefully Miazga finds somewhere comfortable in Europe cause Miazga playing well with the two MLS guys and Brooks would be an awesome 4 for the World Cup.

For midfield I think the sooner they move on from Michael Bradley, the better. He’s been an awesome soldier but it should be Tyler Adams in the middle when healthy and maybe Wil Trapp as his backup. No way Bradley is playing at 35 and by then maybe he’s an end of the bench dude in 2022.

Winger is interesting because if you include Pulisic then they’ve got 3 solid options but there’s really not much after that. Hopefully some youngsters pull through over the next 3 years. Striker is where I disagree with Berhalter and don’t believe Morris and Zardes should be in camp. Maybe one of them at this point cause Weah and Sargent are young, but one of them should’ve stayed for practice and experience with this team. By 2022 I don’t want to see Gyasi Zardes on the pitch for Team USA. He can’t finish at the international level. I think a 33yr old Jozy could still be playing in a bench role or something like that, but the striker position will undergo major changes over the next 3 years and I’m really excited to see what transpires. Novakovich will be one to keep an eye on. Weah and Sargent will have a say on this team eventually. They’re super talented.

I like Zardes, his story is awesome and I’ve been a fan for a long time... but having him as our lead striker at this level is pretty bad. I can think of a handful of better options... what gives?

Zardes playing for Berhalter is just fine. He plays well in the system.

Jordan Morris is a difference maker, idc what anyone says. Dude hustles, he’s got elite speed, and he’s smart with the ball up top.

Morris-Pulisic-Zardes might be worth building around???

thought cincy was supposed to belong in the mls?

The supporter base does... but it turns out that putting together an MLS roster in less than a year is not ideal lol.

For real though, they had a con man for a manager, and it has basically made this first year a waste. Some true off-the-field bullshit just ruining everything. Injuries haven’t helped, either, but they were trash before everyone started pulling hammies.

The shit their former manager was trying to pull, though... really a bummer that he was allowed to put his mark on things. They were always going to be bad, but he had enough pieces in place to put a respectable product on the field if he would have simply committed to a system and let them grow with it.

Nice game tonight. Slow start, but the score was much better than I anticipated. I was thinking 3-0. Starting to think we might have a chance if we peak at the right time.

Could have been a lot worse, too. They had a ton of great looks and their goalkeeper made a lot of really good saves

Yup. All we need is a tie now to take the group. I'm kinda hoping we end up playing Jamaica in the first game. I want revenge for that last friendly against them.

USMNT got a good win in the first match that was something to build on. They got a better performance and victory on Saturday night. Keep building brick by brick in this tournament. Beat Panama. Win the group by victory rather than GD.

Rafa is leaving Newcastle. Sad. I don't understand Mike Ashley. He's already worth nearly $3B and if he doesn't give a shit just sell the club to be done with it already. Newcastle supporters are some of the best in the world and this knob goblin goes out of his way to say "fuck you" to his own fan base every chance he gets. The downside to him selling is Newcastle is a sleeping giant and if competent ownership gets in there, look out.

Jose Cifuentes is considering signing with Celtic rather than Man City. Rather see a player like this play at Celtic than languish on City's bench. He'd be an incredible player for Celtic.

The positive in Benitez leaving is that they were actively looking for a starting RB in this transfer window. Now that’s probably not gonna change with Rafa leaving but it could help Yedlin. I’d love for him to be starting at RB for the next 3 years until the WC.

you could pretty much host a world cup in buenos aires

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">you should see what Buenos Aires is like, shit ton of teams in the greater BsAs region. <a href="https://t.co/lS2XZofG66">pic.twitter.com/lS2XZofG66</a></p>— July Transfer Window Curtains (@101singer) <a href="https://twitter.com/101singer/status/1137736716754853894?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">June 9, 2019</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Copa America is in Argentina next year( they are moving to even years cycle hence there is a tournament this year and next year) so it will be interesting to see how they get on hosting a tournament without violence

I am not at all surprised about Spain’s early goal here against the women. I thought some of the passing and possession by the back line has been sketchy all tournament. Finally bit them in the butt.

That goal was, as usual, the result of incredibly shaky goal keeping decision-making. Neyher put Sauerbrunn into tight trouble and even Smart Becky couldn't control the situation fast enough. The weakness in this team is almost entirely goal-keeping. The only other backline errors occur when OHara has to defend the weakside of the ball field on set pieces and corners --- she has real trouble with that. The rest of the girls do about as well as anyone can ask reasonably in a full-out offensive game plan. {{If there was someone of the quality of our old Tigress in goal, this team might never be scored on.}}

I'd say Dunn is a weakness too. She's going to need to step it up against France.
Ugly game overall. Morgan was getting mugged all game. I'm sure France will try to do the same. Hate to have the upcoming matchup this early.

I like Dunn's aggressive nature and her ability to pick of passes but she makes really poor decisions when she has possession. I was so impressed with Mewis today. She made some beautiful long passes and was creating a lot. Was also impressed as usual with Tobin, Ertz, and Levell. Not as much with Rapinoe or Morgan but Rapinoe at least struck her PK's well and Morgan was getting mugged all game. I think I would have liked to see Carly play more than Alex today. Maybe against France. Really like the middle though. You got Mewis, Horan, Ertz, Levell, Bryan, and Long. That's a strong midfield. I wonder why Franch or Harris haven't played. Alyssa isn't Hope Soloed I would think the other 2 would have played some

I think this crappy performance will wake them up a bit going into the match with France. Not going to be too hard on Morgan and Rapinoe even though both had bad games. Morgan drew a bunch a fouls, several that should have been cards. Rapinoe did enough on the pitch, and was boss on PKs. I just hope this is them checking the "bad game" box. France looked pretty mediocre last game too.

I hate France and England, love the US obviously, but also cheer for Italy and Germany. Hoping it's a US/England and Italy/Germany semi. Love that the US gets a chance to knock France and England out.

Rapinoe might have had a poor game, but her work rate down the left flank for the last 30 minutes of the match was awe-inspiring. I was exhausted from just watching her make runs and maintain possession into the corner.

I did not think that Rapinoe had a poor game at all. The only way we could attack regularly was down one or the other sides or the few times Mewis went on a raid. Lavelle was on Heath's side, so that's an advantage for the right.

This is set up for France to win. They have been given the extra day of rest. Spain was VERY physical. If we lose, it is Spain and scheduling that probably beats us.

It's a transfer rumor involving them, but I can see your point. Isn't there a Celtic fan here?

This situation with Newcastle and Rafa is so unfortunate. I hope Newcastle doesn't get relegated again, but this could be the beginning of the end for them.

I don't see how this is going to work. Everywhere he's ever been they have been able to spend money. Lots of it. This is the totally opposite situation as long as the current ownership is in charge. There would have to be a seismic shift in either ownership or the current owner's philosophy as it relates to spending.

Some of the other names out there seem far more plausible than Mourinho.

A lot of things are working against the USWNT in their next match, and I don't care that they won the last world cup there is nothing you can say to convince me that Jill Ellis is good at her job. She wins by sheer virtue of the fact that the USWNT out-talents everyone they play against. I think this is finally the match where all the proverbial chickens come home to roost.

I will admit, I am not a huge fan of womens soccer, but i have watched the last two games of the USWNT. Im going to have to agree with you Lax. She is surely benefiting from clearly having more talent and athleticism.

Aside from that, from what I have seen, Rapinoe has looked AWFUL to me. An absolute mess with the ball at her feet. Yes she works hard, but her decision making is terrible. Alex Morgan, ehhh.... really haven't seen much AT ALL from her either. There are deff some super good athletes on this team, that seem to be covering for others in the line up, as well as covering for some tactical issues

As I said, I havent watched much Womens International (I should, as i Coach girls soccer haha), but i hear France is quite good, and i know they beat US recently. Hope the best for the girls though! If not, im with IrishFaninTX, FORZA AZZURRI !!!!!!!!
