I will be lightly rooting for Belgium, I think. I recognize a lot of names on their roster, even with Benteke being excluded.

Will be cheering for Argentina a tiny bit in all games unless they end up playing Germany. Will be cheering against England, France, and Russia in every game....

I'll root for Germany and anyone at all playing England or Mexico if those teams are on... you couldn't have a major sporting event (outside of the NBA) I'm less interested in than this world cup though. My hype meter is barely registering at the current time. I am Jack's complete and total apathy.

Side gripe, these, 'root for your origin' commercials irritate me... And especially screw all these El Tri commercials like all Americans should suddenly just forget we aren't there or that any USMNT fan worth a G-Damn hates mexico with their entire being... whatever...

I was in your space last month. I generally cheer for 4 teams. The US is first obviously, Germany a strong 2nd, Italy, and a distant 4th of Argentina. With the US gone I was pretty much disgusted.

The whole Russian hosting thing... That aspect I think could be as interesting as the games themselves.

If England plays MX, who ya cheering for? I hate MX too, but I will never cheer for England (except maybe if they are playing France or Russia)...

hmm.. if the game is more important to one side I'll root against them (like if Mexico needs it to qualify or some such but England is already through then go for England)... if all things are equal (like in the knockouts) then there is zero chance I watch but would want England to win. Screw the Mexican national team. I'll root for the Red Sox, USC or Michigan before I root for el tri... it's that real.

Honestly my favorite storyline of the WC happens right away when KSA somehow gets a goal disallowed against Russia and a phantom PK is awarded to the Ruskies

lol, your hate is strong. my hate is strongest for England and France. Then there's MX and Russia. Toss in Iran for good measure..

Russia...I am very intrigued by. I never cheer for or against them really. Just view them as a bit of a circus freak.

Ireland would be up with Italy if they were worth a shit. Hell, Italy should probably be lower since they didn't get an invite lol. My blood is Germany, Italy, Ireland, Welsh, and French that I will never admit to in person...

I've actually cheered for Mexico a few times at a few "watch" parties with some older employees. They even gave me a jersey. I have several friends from Brazil that gave me a jersey as well. They got tired of seeing me in my many German, Italian, and US jerseys. I've got some sweet Germany jerseys directly from the homeland over the years. This is the first year in long time I haven't picked up a new WC jersey.

48 teams. I wouldn't be surprised if it was all 3, but that has yet to be determined. Even if not, in a 48 team WC there are 6 CONCACAF teams that qualify.

Here is the current breakout:
AFC: 8
CAF: 9
CONCACAF: 6
UEFA: 16
OFC: 1
CONMEBOL: 6
2 Playoff bids.

Absolutely absurd that CONMEBOL only gets 6 and even more absurd that Asia gets 8. There is no quality in Asia outside of Australia, Japan, Iran and South Korea.

To show how absurd that is, if that was this WC, Syria, the UAE, and Uzbekistan would get in over Paraguay and Ecuador.

I wouldn't be surprised if the 3 hosts get auto-qualified, they eliminate a playoff spot, and give 4 spots to CONCACAF.
