i think i'll follow Mexico's progress very keenly. I work down there a good bit and have been a to a few league games. They'll fear Germany and Sweden, they don't like playing the bigger more physical European teams

Sounds like England, Scotland and Wales are following our lead for 2030... joint bid, rumored to be favored by FIFA.

I have never seen a third tier match in England, but I imagine it would be on par with Russia-Saudi Arabia.

Yuck.

My office was surprisingly hype for the opener.... bunch of Persians who HATE Saudi Arabia cheering every goal by Russia lol...

Fifa's inner circle and the English FA were never on good terms. Now that Blatter is gone perhaps things will thaw

I honestly don't even think any of our staff or students even know it started today... not one word about it from anyone...

I respect it but they got a lot of holes to fill. Marchisio (not that he has played much since his injury) is out right? Barzagli and Chiellini on their last legs. Dybala potentially leaving.

They will just reload. Darmian looks like he is headed to Juve. So thats an improvement on De Sciglio. Rugani is playable. Chiellini has another year or 2 in him. They have the money so they will figure it out.

Back in March, Rahm Emmanuel's office issued a statement that they were not bidding to be a host city because FIFA was unable to provide “certainty” that Chicago taxpayers would not be affected if selected as a host city.

Soldier Field now seats 61,500 and if it isn't the smallest NFL stadium, it is the second smallest in capacity to maybe Jacksonville. It is also owned by the Chicago Park District and not the McCaskey Family, who owns the Bears. Fascinating arrangement as this is the largest football market considering NYC and LA both have two teams.

To my recollection, Chicago's failed Olympics bid a few years back was a victory for the city's residents as the majority of them wanted nothing to do with hosting the Olympics.

Maybe it is for the best.

Hosting the Olympics, and hosting a few WC matches is very very different.

My office is well aware... but that might just be because I never shut up about it... lol But in all seriousness, I have a couple buddies in my department that are soccer fans, and 2 of my partners are recent adopters to the sport and one of them is addicted to it now.

That game was pretty brutal. The last 10 mins were the most fun of the whole game.

On a side note... It kills me seeing teams like Saudi Arabia, who are just so fuking shyt, in this tournament. And to not have Italy, US, and Chile miss out.... it just hurts the tournament. Its just so annoying.

Yeah my office is very excited about it as well and they even have a conference room dedicated to the World Cup if you need break.

Only watched first half but man that was rough. Feel bad for the super casual fan that thought they'd see a good game.

All my eggs are in Argentina's basket with USA and Italy out. I'm sure they will choke though, per usual.

Shambolic on defense and at GK. For a team that has so many elite players, they're starting a keeper who plays in Mexico. But Messi. So there is always a chance

such an old team so many dudes in their 30's and very little young talent on the horizon. Success at underage level has totally dried up for them

Well they have Icardi and Perrotta, who are both very successful in Serie A. And they both were snubbed from the WC roster. Their staff are idiots. Leandro Parades will be a star in the future. Hes a holding Midfielder. I think he made the roster.

Personally I loved the whole game, people might call it third tier level but that's the beauty of the world cup...all the differences in quality nation to nation. All 5 goals were quality.

My office was surprisingly hype for the opener.... bunch of Persians who HATE Saudi Arabia cheering every goal by Russia lol...

Watched the game with a dude from Pakistan who was sooo happy with the result haha

Cavani or Suarez may win the Golden Boot from matches again KSA and Egypt alone... I expect the Egypt match to be a 5-2 type of affair while they should beat Saudi Arabia way worse than Russia did, especially if they play that wide open again.

Egypt played an absolutely brilliant game for all but 1 minute. As such Uruguay gets the 3 points...
