It's actually not all that hot right now. Bring beer when you make it.

Back in college and shortly after, I had a jeep and dirt bike (still have the dirt bike), and would go up to the dunes here in Michigan (Silver Lake, Saugatuck area, etc) and ride. I don't know what it's like in other parts of the country. But it was always a badass time over here.
IMG_0887-2.jpg

That's where I got the bug for dune riding. I first went in high school with my dirt bike but the fun was my buddy's ATC's. His family started renting a house a half mile up the beach from the park and it was timed to match up with the Gus Macker in Belding or Ludington. We played in them for 20 years. Now it's usually the week after July 4th so we can go to the Red Bud Nationals when we're all in town.

Make sure to bring large beach towels to lay on... neither of you two need any more sand in your vaginas.

Won't be back this year unfortunately. Using our down time around the 4th to move Crusader Inc. back to the Sweatsdale, AZ. Had enough of this 75 degree BS everyday. It gets monotonous.

Funny this thread came up since my hobbies (new and old) are the reason I haven't been on I.E. much in the last year. I am definitely trying to make the most of retirement by delving in to things I previously didn't have much time for.

I have really been immersing myself in my drawing and painting. However, sometimes you get in a creative rut and so I have tried to combat that by pushing myself in to other practices and mediums. Here are a few I have dabbled in this past year:

- woodburning
- furniture making (mostly from reclaimed pallets)
- etching (on glass and metal)
- sculpting (with metal and wood)

My biggest hobby that I have really expanded lately is cleaning, restoring and rejuvenating old hand tools. Planes, hatchets, axes, and anything cool looking (I had posted some pics of a plane I restored in the Blade thread a while ago). I don't it for the value, but rather for how cool I think they are. Starting to get a pretty nice collection. There are tons of flea markets around my area here in Tennessee and I have made some great buys recently. I recently bought two wood boxes full of tools from an old guy at a flea market for fifty bucks. Had about thirty some tools total, but when I got the boxes home and wiped some of the dust and grime off, I found out there were really cool old wood Winchester ammo boxes. No idea how old they are, but they are so cool!

I will try to post some pics soon.

Glad to be back posting on I.E. I've missed you all, but retirement has been pretty f'ing awesome!

Just finished my latest championship game... this marked my first full season (draft, season, playoffs and all) played without my pops.

It matched two teams that have been historically pretty bad... neither coming close to this stage before... The San Antonio Missions and The Hartford Whalers. Kind of a worst to first story ala the 1991 World Series. The Missions had a much better season and came in favorites to win their first CC.

Campbell Cup contestants:

<a href="http://s154.photobucket.com/user/ACamp1900/media/CC12_zpsrv4o45py.png.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s244/ACamp1900/CC12_zpsrv4o45py.png" border="0" alt=" photo CC12_zpsrv4o45py.png"/></a>

The coin toss

<a href="http://s154.photobucket.com/user/ACamp1900/media/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zpscls3njoa.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s244/ACamp1900/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zpscls3njoa.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo image_zpscls3njoa.jpg"/></a>

Hartford jumped out to the early lead and held it at the half, trying to become only the second Campbell Cup underdog to win the big game.

<a href="http://s154.photobucket.com/user/ACamp1900/media/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zpswz2bv6f0.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s244/ACamp1900/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zpswz2bv6f0.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo image_zpswz2bv6f0.jpg"/></a>

The Whalers even had a huge scope and score, the first in Campbell Cup history... what you see below is the ball on the field, which #71 of Hartford picked up... here he enters the end zone.

<a href="http://s154.photobucket.com/user/ACamp1900/media/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zpsyc2qulya.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s244/ACamp1900/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zpsyc2qulya.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo image_zpsyc2qulya.jpg"/></a>

But aside from a couple of huge plays, Hartford was really shutdown offensively and eventually San Antonio's spread passing attack shifted the momentum and blew things open. Here is the result of a big fourth quarter pass play to put The Missions on top for good.

<a href="http://s154.photobucket.com/user/ACamp1900/media/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zps8gpwradi.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s244/ACamp1900/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zps8gpwradi.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo image_zps8gpwradi.jpg"/></a>

The celebration is now in full swing and the goal posts come down, game MVP San Antonio QB #19 is carried off the field, and the defeated Whalers can only walk to their locker room and wonder what could have been. Final score San Antonio 30, Hartford 21.

When I'm not working or with my family, I'm bass fishing. Can't get enough of it.

Do you ever fly fish for bass? I love throwing big poppers in the lilies for large mouth and it doesn't get better than smallmouth fishing on the river with a fly rod. That's how I pretty much spend all summer. Let me know if you ever do and I'll mail you some flies.

@Acamp - looks like an epic battle. Your pops would have enjoyed that.

Thanks for the offer. I actually have never done it. I've had numerous people say I need to give it a try though.

Very few things in life rival a topwater bite for largies. I throw poppers and spooks in the mornings. Occasionally a buzzbait. I still need to go river fishing for smallies. I have an uncle who lives near Lafayette and he catches 15"-17" smallmouth on the regular in his backyard "creek." He uses salted tube jigs and nothing else. Slays 'em on it.

My two main hobbies are woodworking and landscaping. I managed to turn the latter into a job with Notre Dame Landscape Services recently. It should be fun to take a hobby and turn it into a job on the best campus in the country.

Got some new field covers... vinyl covers on a magnetic backing.

I went with the old school ND field because I wanted a field that was team neutral...

Combining hobbies here a co worker stopped by the house last week and took some shots with his new fancy camera, he's into photography... here are a few shots he took of a game that was on hold during his visit... Louisville Hornets v Shreveport Swamp Dragons... ;)

I love vintage baseball, football & basketball cards...in that order.

I searched eBay for ND alums that played in the NFL in 50s & 60s. I then added them to my collection of ND alums from the 70s and had them framed.

I have a rather large collection of cards, same order, from the 1970s and 1980s on into the early 1990s... they've been stored up for years though... need to break those out.

I am just discovering this thread. Man I dig that Hartford Whalers squad. Makes me miss dominating with Brendan Shanahan in old school NHL video games.

Slow day,,, love this guy's videos:

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/MPR8-Wd8MyY" frameborder="0" allow="autoplay; encrypted-media" allowfullscreen></iframe>

I also printed out five new field covers... I'm going to have to find some way to share them here (wish we could go back to just uploading files.....)

I've also re-started collecting baseball, football and hockey cards with my youngest daughter, she's all into it. Trout is the Topps cover guy this year so yesir. The cards these days are just gorgeous.

I have a Revell 1:32 model of a Spitfire MkII that I started more than a year ago and will eventually finish. Got hooked as a kid and just never outgrew the love of building model WWII planes.

Built many a model airplane, ship or car in my youth.

Then I went through detox and got clean.

The thrill was gone.

I just noticed the original pictures are back... I guess photobucket changed something again? sweet.

Here are some field covers I've been working on, they get printing on thin magnetic sheets so you can interchange the fields at will:
