Funny this thread came up since my hobbies (new and old) are the reason I haven't been on I.E. much in the last year. I am definitely trying to make the most of retirement by delving in to things I previously didn't have much time for.
I have really been immersing myself in my drawing and painting. However, sometimes you get in a creative rut and so I have tried to combat that by pushing myself in to other practices and mediums. Here are a few I have dabbled in this past year:
- woodburning
- furniture making (mostly from reclaimed pallets)
- etching (on glass and metal)
- sculpting (with metal and wood)
My biggest hobby that I have really expanded lately is cleaning, restoring and rejuvenating old hand tools. Planes, hatchets, axes, and anything cool looking (I had posted some pics of a plane I restored in the Blade thread a while ago). I don't it for the value, but rather for how cool I think they are. Starting to get a pretty nice collection. There are tons of flea markets around my area here in Tennessee and I have made some great buys recently. I recently bought two wood boxes full of tools from an old guy at a flea market for fifty bucks. Had about thirty some tools total, but when I got the boxes home and wiped some of the dust and grime off, I found out there were really cool old wood Winchester ammo boxes. No idea how old they are, but they are so cool!
I will try to post some pics soon.
Glad to be back posting on I.E. I've missed you all, but retirement has been pretty f'ing awesome!
