Disney/ESPN finally hitting us with the game-changer.

I wonder how much it will be to stream the Disney catalog of movies, ESPN, and the kids channels all on the "super" package?

Figures -- now that my son is just about old enough to finally start appreciating the good Disney movies...

WatchESPN is contractually protected from being cannibalized by other ESPN platforms, apparently, so that means the ESPN streaming stuff is going to be all of the obscure college sports that most people don't watch, plus probably the Pac12 network.

If they include live feeds of ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU and ESPNNews in that package, I wonder if that means they eliminate their partnership with SlingTV?

Or this.

The part that nobody is focusing on (which is really the important part from ESPN's perspective) is Disney's acquisition of a controlling interest in BAMTech.

Disney to End Netflix Deal, Sets Launch of ESPN and Disney-Branded Streaming Services | Variety

"OTT packages for individual sports will also be available for purchase, including MLB.TV, NHL.TV and MLS Live. The new service will be based on an "enhanced version" of the current ESPN app, which will continue to offer pay-TV subscribers access the ESPN programming on an authenticated basis."

All ur out of market sports are belong to us.

To be clear, there is nothing that's been announced that says you'll be able to get ESPN 1/2/U/News/Deportes/SEC/Longhorn/ACC without a cable subscription. It may happen some day, but that's not what this story is about. Anything that says otherwise is #FakeNews.

Anyone have the newest edition of Apple TV?

ESPN's Apple TV app will allow you to watch up to four live games at once, from any of their networks or digital offerings, with split-screen formatting options. You could watch any combo of 4 games from ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPNNews, and WatchESPN.

I've upgraded from Fire Sticks to Rokus on all of my TV's in the house to stream Sling, and I've got HD antenna's for the big Fox/ABC/NBC games, but I might now have to try and justify to my wife that I'm gonna buy a $150 Apple TV lol

At some point, I'm going to be trying to watch the Notre Dame game while some asshole has three other games on at the same time.

Is the 4th still the latest generation of apple tv? If so, I'm pretty pumped for this.

That's why ND/NBC get their own separate TV entirely. It's also the TV with the biggest screen.

The ESPN app gets the smaller TV, with no sound.

Wikipedia says it is. They usually do a new one every three years, so 4th generation should be good until late 2018.

They've absolutely killed their brand for no earthly reason. Approval among Democrats has stayed stagnant... no bump, because people didn't watch ESPN for politics and "culture"... while approval among Republicans is down massively over the past couple years.

Seriously Democrats go from 28%->25% and Republicans from a peak of 32%->16%. That's brutal from a branding standpoint.

ESPN's non-live sports programming has seriously, seriously fallen off since the early 2000s. I remember as a kid getting pumped to stay up late on Friday nights to watch Baseball Tonight. Hell I had a Baseball Tonight shirt. Harold Reynolds, Tim Kurkjian, and Peter Gammons were top notch. Throw in Gameday back in the day plus SportsCenter that (wait for it....) talked about sports and the channel had solid programming constantly.

The reason those shows were quality was because the cast were quality guys who actually discussed the sport. Their were no "hot takes" whereas now that's all ESPN programming is...a series of hot takes by assholes trying to be a bigger clown than the person sitting across from them.

Also, Around the Horn used to be a good show before Tony Fucking Reali ruined it. Max Kellerman was a good host - Reali might as well be the Hamburglar up there. I actually think the Hamburglar would do a better job assigning points and not cutting off interesting debate.

You're right about staying up late as a kid. Loved being able to watch all the highlights Saturday night after the west coast college games finished. Sad they've forgotten the fans love sports.

Ranked all CFB programs based on "fan happiness" level.

1. Ohio State
2. Florida State
3. Alabama

75. Notre Dame

Ranking the happiness of every college football fan base in 2017

*Didn't take long to see the list at least has one category that is complete bullshit. OSU and FSU are rated above Bama in the "program power" category. WTF....

No fucking shit ESPN? We haven't won a meaningful bowl game in a coon's age.

But seriously they published a ranking of fan happiness and put recent winning programs at the top. Wow! What a novel concept!

Jesus Tapdancing Christ, Wizards. How do you work for these bunch of pandering morons? You should just quit and work for Mitch McConnell's office because you'd work for someone who probably panders slightly less.

To be fair, they're in a lose-lose situation.

If they don't take him off the call, and the meme of "Robert Lee Calling a UVA Game" blows up, they get criticized for not being proactive, and get crushed for repeating their *mistake* like with the "Auction Draft" segment. The auction draft shouldn't have been an issue, but it was, and they caught heat... so the argument would be that they should've learned from it, and nipped this issue in the bud.

On the flip-side, now that they HAVE taken him off the call, the OTHER side of the spectrum is up in arms, talking about how ridiculous it is, triggered snowflakes, 'wouldn't have made the connection if there weren't attention drawn to it,' blah blah blah.

Either way, ESPN was gonna catch a lot of heat. It was a lose-lose (but they kind of deserve it).

ESPN has turned into the addict who keeps doing what they're doing while thinking the problem is everyone else.

This is weapons grade stupid.

They could have just covered him up with plastic but still let him call the game.

I agree with your comments as ESPN was in a no win situation. Sad are the state of affairs are in this country when a guy can't call a game because of his name.
