Then you ask him "how would you feel about having a teammate who is gay?" The question, as posed, is awful.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with the question. It's a question, not an accusation. It's no different than asking someone if they are Catholic, or if they like a good Scotch, or what their favorite kind of pizza is. It's how they use the answer to the question that could become problematic...

I don't think it is legal to ask somebody about their religious beliefs in a job interview..

Maybe I'm wrong. But I assumed that it was asked as a *nudge nudge* *smirking*..."you're not one of them, are you" sorts of questions. If that's the case, it's a reflection of homophobia in the league. As I read the coaches alleged comments, I can't tell the tone. So I guess I'll reserve judgement.

???????????????????????????

100% Wrong

Not by the definition of an interview...at least not according to what I've read in other places. They can't say, "congratulations, you have the job" at the end. That gives them more flexibility to ask questions that would be illegal in a traditional job interview. Glad to be wrong if people have other information..

It's not a job interview though. Coaches get by with asking all sorts of things because of that.

Is it actually not classified as one? That would seem odd.
You are representing an organization at an event that your industry has invited the young man to, you are interviewing him and if things go well, you may be offering him a job.

Pretty sure they ask lots of these at the combine interviews.

I don't think his external response was actually a "run and squeal" as mentioned above.

He was interviewed about his interviews (redundant), and mentioned that they straight up just asked him if he was gay. He said that he thought they were just probably trying to see how he would respond. So he was aware of their motives, and it didn't seem like his intent was to blast them for it.

Who knows though. Maybe he really was upset, and is just good at keeping his cool while outing the offenders?

fair enough...if he handled it well, he won't be dinged. I don't think anyone cares if he is or is not gay...they care about his attitudes, and they care about how he deals with something that might make him uncomfortable.

The thing no one is saying is, his mom seems to not have a filter, and is largely self-promoting...and I'm guessing Jr. is getting tested a little more for that reason.

Rating the NFL draft prospects: Defensive backs

3. ELI APPLE, Ohio State (6-0 ½, 202, 4.39, 1): Third-year sophomore from Voorhees, N.J. "He got beat probably more than you want but he's got tremendous upside," said one scout. "He is too young (20) to be coming out but he is so you've got to project what he's going to be. I think he's going to be a pretty high-level starter."
Started 27 games, finishing with 86 tackles (7 ½ for loss), 4 picks and 18 PBUs. "Some there (OSU) were worried he wouldn't break 4.6 and then popped the (4.39)," said another scout. "They were surprised he ran that well.

I worry about him because of off-the-field issues. The kid has no life skills. At all. Can't cook. Just a baby. He's not first round for me. He scares me to death." Wonderlic was 21. "He probably has as much talent as anybody but he, like a lot of those Ohio State guys, is inconsistent," said a third scout. "He squats, and receivers run by him. He's more in catch-up mode than reaction mode. He bothers me a little bit."

As much as I love a good "bash on [OSU Player]," this is where all of this ridiculous pre-draft scouting stuff loses me.

What a completely ridiculous thing to worry about and to try to nitpick. There is literally no reason to be concerned about whether or not the guy can cook.

But, something so useless suddenly becomes a red flag when you give these guys so much time and place so much importance on their quotes.

I don't think the concern was that the kid can't cook, but that he lacks any life skills, with cooking being used an example.

And a kid who is going to have to have someone around to cut the crusts off of his pb&j sandwiches constitutes a certain level of risk for team.

He says "has no life skills," but his only example is that the kid can't cook.

I understand that this translates to, "He has been coddled. Doesn't know how to adult." But that is true for all kinds of college kids that come out for the draft. They learn "life skills" by being "in life."

I understand the criticism. But I think it's ridiculous, and is a result of a vastly over-saturated collection of pre-draft information.

Nah.

Pay him enough and he'll have a crust cutter, a peanut butter spreader and a jelly spooner/smoosher on his staff.

I never understood the "use a knife for the peanut butter and a spoon for the jelly" thing. Why dirty two utensils? I use a knife for both. And can even cut off the crust with that same utensil!

I'm guessing Annie's father was not a 5 star speller?

He isn't a "5 star retired chef" either. Dude is like 45, and I don't know how the hell you consider anything he did to be "5 star chef"...

All of this misses the forest for the trees, which is that the scout was saying he's a pampered baby who can't take care of himself... which may or may not be true... and just gave cooking as a poor example.

So more like his mom has to pour the milk in his cereal bowl?

The thing that I keep thinking about:

Imagine if Eli Apple himself was saying all of the things that his mom is saying in order to defend himself. Could you imagine how sports media would bust on him for his "red-flag attitude"?

What does that say about Annie Apple lol?

100% agree with you.

Honestly I've lived with my parents, in dorms at college, with my first wife and my current fiance. i barely know how to cook myself. I can make eggs, pasta, grill stuff and bake some things but that's it.

Also, I'm pretty sure a wonderlic score of 21 is pretty much average, so that isn't bad at all.

Complete crap IMO
