Alford is really from Dan McCarney's tree. CW hired him, so I don't give BK a lot of credit. Maybe for keeping him...

Coomb was a rock star HS coach, and I give credit for BK pulling him up. He only spent 3 years with BK, and stayed when Jones came in. He spent almost as much time with Jones as with BK. And he spent more time with Urbie than anyone at the college level.

Why BK didn't bring him to ND when he left UC amazes me...

But...trees have branches! BK's branches just look rotten and devoid of life.

This is a good case study in what the two schools will tolerate. UConn fired a coach after going 3-9 in year 3. ND retained a coach who went 4-8 in year 7.

I like Bob, but he is a weak recruiter. I hope he goes somewhere that has him with a great recruiter, and he recognizes that this weakness will kill him for any further big jobs if he hasn't shown he's embraced and overcome it.

The bigger problem is that UConn now has higher expectations for its program than ND does. Diaco is the Jersey version of Kelly: the only other difference is that he underperformed with 2 and 3 stars while Kelly underperforms with 4 and 5 stars.

Except not everybody that is tired of your #firekelly hot takes are happy he is coming back, they have just moved on as they know he will be here next year regardless.

Not every thread needs to be about BK's shortcomings. I would love for all of that noise to be kept in the revisit BK thread.

You're in a tough spot, one I don't envy. I was upfront that Kelly deserved to be fired. I've snarked this and that about dumping his azz...

Listening to the I.I. podcast, and Sampson is telling a story about how he randomly ran into Diaco a while back, and Diaco remembered Sampson had recently had a baby. The fact that Diaco remembered Sampson, and that he/his wife were expecting impressed Sampson. The Diaco, with zero Fs given, goes on to ask if his wife is breast or bottle feeding.

IDK how we get him back on staff but we need this guy.

I sure as hell supported retaining Brian Kelly because I didn't like the options....not because I thought he is Ara or Lou. If the team fails to meet expectations, and there is an upgrade from Kelly available, pull the trigger. Above my pay grade to decide the who, how, or why, and I don't claim to know anything, other than my opinion.

It is indeed a message board, but this is Bob Diaco's thread...just waiting for the "Stop Trump" nonsense, then this thread too will be "complete".

With Georgia, USC, Stanford, Michigan State, and a few other upset minded teams that's a hard question. We picked a really bad year to go 4-8 given 2017's schedule. Ideally everyone is united behind Kelly and the team until Kelly gets the axe, but given the youth that got experience last year and the shake ups on the coaching staff...after 3 losses I would say it's fair to start questioning the direction of things and see who is realistically available to take Kelly's spot. I don't think anyone will be happy with another 8-4 regular season. 2011 was a year where we saw a lot of youth too, and it turned into a pretty good 2012 (anchored by a highly recruited Senior ILB, which we have again next year).

I'm don't care too much if people don't like Kelly. I mean, I hope they root for the team still and not for losses just so the coach gets fired, but right now I just don't want to see a thread about Bob Diaco derailed to talk about Brian Kelly.

The issue has never been and never will be money at ND. The best coaches in college football aren't taking ND over Ohio St, Texas, USC, Clemson, FSU, Bama, LSU.
