Diaco not as good at offensive game-management. Maybe he will be available to come back as DC?

No thank you. If we're getting a new DC, I'd like somebody who puts forth more effort on the recruiting trail than BVG, not less.

Any chance Diaco gets fired? I was never a fan of his when he was the defensive coordinator at ND but if he was fired and ND was looking for a new DC it would make sense to see him come back.

Unrelated, but it's nice to see Chuck Martin has seemingly turned things around at Miami (Ohio)

I'm of the opinion that Diaco's success while at ND was, largely, taken for granted by ND fans while it was taking place. And under BVG, the defense was so bad that most have forgotten that ND can field a competitive defense year after year.

However, I'm also of the opinion that we need someone new. Someone that will "flip the room upside down" to use a term Kelly made in regards to the hiring of Sanford. Plus, I'm not sure that Diaco would be willing to once again take a backseat and grind out recruiting.

Just don't flip the room upside down, burn it, and then pee on it, like BVG did.

I might be okay if Hudson stays on as DC for next year. Not sure how good he would be with recruiting, but he's done a pretty good job since taking over for BVG. We are certainly better than we were prior to BVG's departure.

Not sure I'd want Diaco back. He was a bit too picky with the NTs and MLBs and it put us in a bad spot.

BK and his CEO style of leadership is what has caused ND to have a season like this. He is hands off while at the same time not giving his coaches enough leeway to do things their own way. How is it that in year 7, no one knows who is calling the plays??? Sanford was supposed to "flip the room upside down" yet none of the assistants questioned throwing the ball in a hurricane???

In my mind, either you are like Urban and Saban where you maniacally micromanage every aspect of your programs and accept responsibility for everything or you are like Ditka and Buddy Ryan where you stand back and let your assistants do their own job and hold them accountable.

Enough of the Yes-men coordinators. No more Chuck Martin or Elston or anyone currently on the staff. Get a top level DC and empower him to run the show... even if that means firing long time BK assistants. Make them responsible for player development, scheme and recruiting and demand results. Either that or then BK should appoint himself OC and DC and if the team ever plays as bad as they have this year, he should fall of his sword and move on.

Meh....I think Bobby will pick up 3-4 3 stars, and maybe a 4 before it is over as the higher stars find places and the lower rated guys look for a new home before the music stops...

I think that program will be spinning its wheels though, because he is not a real accomplished recruiter. I also think he'll always be getting cast offs, and not attracting his players...

Ugh...my alma mater is a dumpster fire at football and the men's basketball team is not to hot right now. Anyway Randy Edsall could and would come back?

Maybe they should re-hire Edsall. UConn deserves to be in a P5 conference (ACC would be a great fit, imo) but needs a functional (i.e. Syracuse/Pitt level) football program again first.

Interesting, the thread now reads Diaco Fired as UConn HC on Dec 2013.

This is a good case study in what the two schools will tolerate. UConn fired a coach after going 3-9 in year 3. ND retained a coach who went 4-8 in year 7.

Which one is the football school again?

The ACC isn't going to touch Connecticut. There aren't enough cable subscribes in their fan base or area and basketball is meaningless to conference realignment.

Bob Diaco has done nothing to earn the benefit of the doubt, unlike Brian Kelly. That's one big difference.

Actually, the ACC was going to take UConn, but BC and Syracuse -along with the football schools- blocked them. BC and Syracuse are bitter about their lack of success compared to UConn and don't want encroachments upon their "territory" (NYC/New England).

Kelly has taken top 10 talent and churned out top 30 seasons. Diaco has taken top 75 talent and churned out top 100 seasons. Meh.

The only thing more strange than the timing of this was their hire before Diaco, Paul Pasqaloni. Wtf?
