I don't want to keep going on about this but no one started off criticizing you, it was all about the people that get their one nerve from standing behind you. And if you don't know what we are talking about, ask. We will explain it to you.

I rarely understand your posts, so explain away why kissme can say that Denard sucks and that Michigan sucks and then she blasts anyone who reminds her that Denard has had the upper hand on ND the past 2 games.

Also explain how we're supposed to figure out how to treat her like a regular poster but at the same time not talk about football to her because she takes offense and says that we're disgareeing with her only because she's a female. Explain how you want us to treat her like a regular poster, but then you go running to her defense because we treat her like we do anyone else we disagree with (that is, at least in my case, to engage in debate). Explain to me how I'm wrong to think that it's more respectful to treat her like a regular poster and ignore her gender, and how you're right to treat her like a father figure and 'protect' her from big bad men who disagree with her.

And finally, explain to me how we're wrong in saying that while we think ND will win, that we should be concerned about Denard and Michigan considering they have beaten us 3 years in a row and Denard has put up insane numbers against us the last 2 years.

You have yet to explain any of that so far...

Denard makes my cheeks pucker. He is dangerous and I have a hard time imagining him being shut down by our defense for the entire game. I can only hope for a turnover or two by him and a lot of points by our offense. I think we can do that. He will put points on the board, I just don't see him doing it more than half of their possessions. I can see us score more than half of our possessions.

I did like the INT return he threw himself into the Bama ball carrier. I hoped for a broken clavicle for a second and then remembered its unsportsmanlike to wish ill on another player.

I think we should approach the Michigan game similar to the Navy game. Only difference is getting our DB's deeper and putting a little more speed in our secondary. Atkinson/Brown at nickel.

If you notice the last few games ND played against Denard, his biggest plays were always broken plays he somehow broke free. Bama played contain with their front 7 every snap. I think we should follow suit.

Fleming got sucked in and played average football. We have a huge upgrade in ishaq and hopefully shembo. Denard will take some hits, make some bad decisions and limp off the field with the rest of his team after losing by two TDs.

What upper hand?! What upper hand does Denard Robinson have? Michigan's entire 2011 season was a fluke, largely exposed by Alabama, yes I understand they are national champs...that's not the point. IF michigan were such a dynasty to win the Sugar Bowl and be number 8, it is not ridiculous to think they would have given Alabama a little bit of competition, instead they came out like lambs to slaughter. The last 2 games Denard Robinson has on ND he hardly kicked our a$$, which is why I ask you, do you watch the same games I do? Michigan is not Alabama, they are not LSU, they are not USC...you wanna be scared, be scared about something worth being scared about. Notre Dame needs to play this game the way they know how to, and the way they were meant to and you will see that Michigan stands no chance. And yes, Denard Robinson sucks, sucks, sucks....can he run fast? Yep. Can he on occassion connect a pass that will make you say WTF? Sure can, but he has, no consistency.

As far as me using my "gender as a crutch" you better get outta here. I don't ever use that as a crutch, but there are times when posters use that against me and ask me what I know about football. If that isn't how you meant that, then I apologize, but I have seldom seen you ask any other posters who you know are male on this site the same thing. I think sticking around since 2010 and being relatively the only poster who is female on this site I've held my own, several times.

As far as being part of the sky is falling gang, I do not feel the need to year after year nit pick everythng ND does. When they do well, I praise them, when they don't, I move on to the next week. I don't sit in the corner with my blankie and a bottle of Jack Daniels posting goofy rants of Irish Glory days gone by, and I don't think others should either. If you think we're going 7-5 or 5-7 this year, that's fine, but don't attack the optimistic, and don't dumb down this site by constantly posting bullsh!t about how Notre Dame can't do this, and ND can't do that and always be down in the dumps. History obviously shows that at times, the Debbie Downer attitude is warranted, but there have been improvements. Maybe we only played Navy Saturday, but I was impressed with what I saw, and I am 100% entitled to think it'll get better. I am 100% right in saying that Denard Robinson is nothing to fear, he's not Monte Ball for christ's sake.

It's odd that there seems to be a lot of fear over a player who, at the end of the day, is not a very good QB. His accuracy is bad, he can't really throw deep to the sidelines well, he doesn't understand zone coverage, and his deep balls have too much air under them.

Of course, he's run-first and very very slippery and fast. But by now the coaches should know that and plan accordingly in light of his weaknesses. I mean, this is a guy who's never beaten Michigan State.

If he beats ND again, to me that's on the coaches. He isn't any better than last year. Fool me once, shame on him. Fool me twice...we're not going to be fooled again.

Maybe that is because he is a heck of an athlete and we face him when he's still healthy.

But we weren't fooled last year. We had exactly the right defensive gameplan, the same one Alabama used this weekend: bottle up Denard and make him beat you by throwing deep. He was unable to beat Alabama that way this weekend, partly because he typically threw the ball 10 feet over his receivers' heads, and partly because Alabama's outstanding corners were able to go up and knock down the passes that were relatively catchable -- which is exactly what Gary Gray was unable to do for us last year.

So that's what it will come down to ... will Bennett Jackson et al be able to get in Devin Gardner's way on some of those deep balls? Or will we make Denard look like a passing QB again?

If we run the ball like I think we can, and Mich looked god-awful against the run, we can keep him off the field. THAT is the key to winning this game. RUN THE BALL. Denard can't do squat from the sideline.

And, even though our secondary is awful, I'll take my chances making him throw. He's worse than the Navy QB...not by much, but worse. Ugliest passes in CFB.

Well, we were at least sort of fooled last year, else we wouldn't have lost...In retrospect we shouldn't have gone single coverage as much. Why let the opponent have a 50% chance on a terrible ball? Terrible balls are begging to be intercepted.

And make him hit the sidelines. He plays like a video game: slant, deep slant, fade, scramble, flat. Those are his 5 plays.

His deep-outs have too much air, and as you saw Alabama basically dropped 6 or 7 and gave them the flat. Obvously there more to a defensive package but this time I'd do more of that.

1. Gardner can flat out play and is a big guy with some solid ball skills. Routes suck at this point.

2. As a Notre Dame fan you should've heard of Gallon as he broke the big play with :23 seconds left to put Michigan in range for their last-second game winning TD. He's very athletic.

Yeah, their starting WRs are pathetic.

Meanwhile, we respond with the All-American combo of Goodman, Jones and Toma...

As for Robinson's accuracy, is it great? No. But I doubt he's worse than last year, and with the exception of Slaughter, we are worse at the other three secondary positions. If we don't have Spond back by Michigan, Councell is entirely unproven at Dog.

anyone expecting ND to run away with this one should get their head checked.

I don't see us running away with it. However, I felt encouraged by what I saw from ND in the morning and Michigan's, much weaker than #8, outing on Saturday night. I still contend that if we eliminate our turnovers from the 5 from last year to 2, we can win. Remember that we picked off Denard 3 times last year and we controlled the TOP, nearly 37 minutes to 23.

.....Notre Dame has lost 3 yrs in a row to Michigan not because Michigan was good, not because they are a powerhouse, they lost because ND was making really stupid mistakes, the same mistakes they made in every game.....

I still remember Denard as the guy that Forcier beat out, the 'other' guy. I see Denard as a guy who got fat off of his HUGE games against irrelevent Notre Dame. As much as it pains me to say it, there has been ALOT of players to have big games against ND's defense in the last few years, so why is Denard the greatest threat in cfb??? because he torched ND? ..so what, lots of ppl have torched ND's defense.

During the Michigan game last year when Denard torched a particular DB twice on the same drive......the last time being a sky-rocket, wounded duck, that was airbourne for what seemed like 2.5mins did nothing to make think that Denard had any real QB skills.

Denard has elite speed, in CFB speed kills....thats it. I mean, does anyone think that Denard will be throwing the ball in the NFL?? Tebow has a better chance of guiding the Jets to a super bowl win

I dont mean this to be disrespectful, truly I do not. But to me, Denard Robinson is like the Wildcat offense, a trick offense with very little substance; but in CFB speed kills, and elite speed, wins games. A trick offense wont won the NC, but obviously, its enough to beat teams like ND.

That is the part I am frustrated about the most when it comes to Michigan, being beat by a trick.

This is part of the problem. First of all, when a team's fan base constantly outwardly dismisses a player's success as not being deserved in some way or it not being legitimate in some way(like when he passes it is an arm punt) they are demonstrating that they are concerned about that player and probably frustrated by his success. And in this case, we should be. He's good. Basically the nonsense of the argument above and Kissmeimirish's points are illustrated by the first sentence above. Why is he not a good qb? Because he most certainly is a good qb. He is not the most accurate thrower(but he has improved and this was obvious from the Bama game, why people on this board behave as if it is significant in any way that Bama was able to shut UM's O easily is beyond me) and he is not an NFL caliber passer. Who cares? What relevance does that have to his success as a college qb and his relative worth and ability at this level? It has little. As to him not understanding zone coverage, that statement is really just dismissive and we can't substantiate it so I don't see the point. But overall, he's really good and teams that are good like ND but have major weaknesses(secondary in depth, experience, and athletic ability, and linebackers in depth, experience, and athletic ability) are going to be susceptible to an elite physical athletic talent like Denard. If you're frustrated that Michigan has won the last 3 years when ND had a team on paper capable of winning, join the club. In my opinion most of it can be chalked up to lack of mental toughness, tons of pressure, and lack of any semblance of homefield advantage(or homefield disadvantage as I like to call it).

Gardner looks scary good at the jump ball. And Gallon looks strong and can run. If you bottle up Denard, MI approach is to throw the jump ball. It's not high tech, but it's effective against most teams. It wasn't effective against Alabama, because Nick Saban teaches the CBs ball and body awareness to knock that down. But against us last year it was extremely effective.

So in three weeks, when we play them. We'll probably bottle up Denard, like we did last year, and we'll see if we've learned anything about defending the jump ball.

Really good, well-reasoned post. Thank you for contributing to sanity.

And.......what the hell does that have to do with Denard Robinson beating us 2 times in a row while putting up huge numbers, what the hell does that have to do with Michigan beating us 3 times in a row??? Bogs, dude, stay on point, for the love of Pete.
They won three against ND, by a total of what? Eleven points and less than two minutes? I am not making excuses for our losses, I am just not acknowledging the validity of any UofM superiority. None.

Who cares how much they beat us by? Did they win the games? Yes. Checkmate. How much did we beat USC by 2 years ago? Do you go around saying, "Well, we won, but in reality it doesn;t matter because we didn't win by a lot."??? Do you talk about the FSU game in '93 as a victory, or more of a push because we didn't win by enough? Wouldn't you laugh at any FSU fan if they gave you the argument that the victory really didn't mean much because we didn't win by a lot??? Do you think the 1993 Notre Dame team (you know, the one that got screwed) is saying today, "You know guys, we really didn't get screwed b/c we only beat Michigan by 4 pts, and we needed to recover an onside kick in the end to preserve the victory. Doesn't really seem like a win." C'mon bogs, are we really having this discussion?

Guess what...they won. Score-effing-board. If we win by one point this year or by 50, I'll still be bragging about it all year, and you'd be a fool to say you wouldn't be doing the same. Hole crap, if I'm a Michigan fan I'm laughing my arse off at these excuses.

They don't have anything on ND academically.

Trying to shut mouth. Trying to shut mouth. Trying to shut mouth. Eff it...WHAT THE FU*K ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT??? What does this have to do with Denard Robinson and Michigan beating ND the last 2 years??? My Lord bogs, even for you this is confusing. Stay on point, for goodness sake.

By in large their last three victories were determined by the bounce of a ball, and that includes having Denard Robinson.

No, not true. 2 years ago Denard had a record breaking day against ND, breaking numerous ankles on the way to 270+ yards rushing and 244 yds passing. And on 4th down, when we needed a stop and the game was over, we forced him to throw the ball and he threw a dart for a first down that led to the victory (you and kissme have forgotten that...I haven't). That game had everything to do with Crist getting hurt and us not being able to remotely stop Denard (look at those numbers again; they're insane). It's ridiculous for you to try and downplay what that kid did to us that day. Absolutely ridiculous.
Brady Hoke's winning percentage is what? Yes he turned Ball State. Yes he turned SDSU. But his sustained winning is at where, in what spotlight?

Again, wtf does that have to do with the price of tea in China? You know what his record is? 1-0. That's all that is relevant to this thread, and all I care about.

And btw, that same paragraph above can be applied to Brian Kelly.

Denard has led the Wolverines to what great victory against what top ranked team?

I don't care. He's 2-0 against Notre Dame, and 1-0 in a BCS game (against a ranked opponent). Go look at Denard's record vs. ranked opponents vs. any QB on our roster's record vs. ranked opponents, and I guarantee you he has more wins. He also has a much better winning percentage against ranked opponents than Brian Kelly (who I love btw). Horrible example bogs.

The list goes on and on. It isn't you NDinLA. But your actions oft times seem to shelter as an appology to give legit authority to those posters that mindlessly repeat what others have said. Pregame it was Robinson Heisman; postgame Robinson blueprint. I will say this, there has never been a Heisman winner that has a blueprint for his defeat! What list? You have failed to provide any evidence of why we shouldn't be concerned about Denard Robinson and Michigan. I mean, you're trying to convince us we shouldn't be concerned because we have better academics...that says it all right there.

Sad thing is, I have to repeat myself a million times tht I think ND will win. But until we do beat Michigan and Denard and shut him down for the first time for 4 quarters, he owns bragging rights and we need to shut them up by winning. Until then, hell yeah we should be concerned. I don't know what ND team you've been watching the past decade, but we are in no position to take ANY TEAM for granted, much less one that has beaten us 3 times in a row...

What upper hand?! What upper hand does Denard Robinson have?

Holy hell.....are you serious??? HE BEAT US 2 YEARS IN A ROW, WHILE PUTTING UP RIDICULOUS, VIDEO GAME-LIKE NUMBERS. That is the very definition of having the upper hand! If ND had a QB that did to Michigan what Denard has done to ND, you'd be calling Michigan fans delusional if they said what you said above.

Michigan's entire 2011 season was a fluke, largely exposed by Alabama, yes I understand they are national champs...that's not the point.

Yup, and they still beat us, which makes it even more sad. Thanks for proving my point.

IF michigan were such a dynasty to win the Sugar Bowl and be number 8, it is not ridiculous to think they would have given Alabama a little bit of competition, instead they came out like lambs to slaughter.

You're veering way off point. That has nothing to do with this thread.

The last 2 games Denard Robinson has on ND he hardly kicked our a$$, which is why I ask you, do you watch the same games I do?

Yes, I do, and the above statement really doesn't say a lot of for your football viewing prowess. Do you realize that Denard set numerous records on ND's defense in 2010? Do yourself a favor and go watch those highlights again. He torched us. He's a friggin' QB, and he ran for over 270 yards against us! And he also added 244 passing yards against us for good measure. RECORD-BREAKING. And you are saying he hardly kicked our a$$??? WTF does a guy have to do then? Call me a jerk, call me an a$$hole, call me a pig, call me maybe, but sorry, that's an embarrassing statement up above for any ND fan to say, especially one who says she watched the game. I wouldn't go anywhere around other college football fans and say that line.

Michigan does not scare me, they never "dominated" us last year, we dominated them, until we gave up.

Oh OK, that gives me hope for this year's game. We dominated but you're saying our guys had no heart and we gave up in the single biggest game of the year. Awesome. (I completely disagree with that statement btw...we had a lot more reasons for why we lost than simply 'giving up'. The guys fought all the way through IMO).

All I am saying is I am so sick and tired of this subject. Michigan is not Alabama, they are not LSU, they are not USC...you wanna be scared, be scared about something worth being scared about.

Not scared. Please read closer. Much, much closer. And oh, btw, they beat us 3 years in a row, and I remember last year a certain someone saying we shouldn't be worried about Michigan, and we lost anyway. Hmmmmmm.

Notre Dame needs to play this game the way they know how to, and the way they were meant to and you will see that Michigan stands no chance.

So a team that has beaten us 3 years in a row, has very good talent and is well-coached has no chance against us? Got it. (Resisting the urge to add obvious snarky comment.)

And yes, Denard Robinson sucks, sucks, sucks....can he run fast? Yep. Can he on occassion connect a pass that will make you say WTF? Sure can, but he has, no consistency.

LOL. Sorry, but guess what? That dude that 'sucks' has beaten ND 2 years in a row and has put up record numbers against us in the process. So if he sucks...what does that make Notre Dame?

You know who else is fast? Usain Bolt. But he can't play football like Denard, and he hasn't beaten ND twice nor has he put up record numbers against ND.

Man, I'm trying to be nice, but you have some comments on here that reflect extremely poorly on your football knowledge. Extremely poorly. And before you go playing the gender card again, I'd say that to a male, a female, an alien, anyone. If Denard sucks, that ND is the worst program in football, because he torched us 2 years ago and put up 330+ yds passing, 100 yds rushing, and 4 TDs against us last year in a winning effort. I'd love to have a QB that 'sucked' that badly.

I gave you an either or. I do that all the time with male posters. You chose to take it as a gender slam. It wasn't. Apology accepted.

I think sticking around since 2010 and being relatively the only poster who is female on this site I've held my own, several times.

And I've never argued with you, until now. I've never put you down for your thoughts, I've never made fun of you for being a female, or anything close to it. You chose to take it there. Sorry, but I think you've made some ridiculous statements on this thread, and if the roles were reversed and ND had been beating Michigan, you'd be laughing your arse off at all these excuses. You'd have to, because the scoreboard doesn't lie, and the numbers don't lie. Yes, Denard SUCKS at throwing. Unfortunately for us, college quarterbacking is much more than throwing (ask Tommy Rees). And no one runs the ball like Denard Robinson.

Man, I really, really wish you'd pay closer attention to what I've written on this thread and even written on this site. It'd make this debate make a ton more sense and make it less one-sided (male chauvinist remark!!!). Cause you've got the wrong dude if you think I'm a Debbie Downer. I've already told you I LOVED what I saw during the Navy game. If you want to close your eyes and make believe I didn't say that just to make your argument appear better in your head, so be it. But just know that you couldn't be further from the truth. I mean seriously, you are so far off here it's not even funny.

But forgive me if I dare say that ND needs to improve in some areas. How dare I do that!!!!!! How dare I say that we don't have the best front 7 in America!!! (Even though we have 2 new starting LBs and another LB in Fox that most ND fans think is subpar, and even though we haven't proven we can get after the QB with any consistency. How dare I???????) And how dare I bring up the fact that Michigan has beaten us 3 years in a row and that Denard has killed us with his legs and his arm? How dare I bring facts and reason into this discussion??? Only irrational thinking on this board! Yeah!!!!

Maybe we only played Navy Saturday, but I was impressed with what I saw, and I am 100% entitled to think it'll get better.

I agree. I have no idea who you are arguing with. Once again, pay closer attention.
I am 100% right in saying that Denard Robinson is nothing to fear, he's not Monte Ball for christ's sake.

You keep thinking that. But I'd keep it in my own head, cause it's about as ridiculous a statement as I've heard on this board in my time here, and I've heard some doozies. Denard has the ultimate scoreboard and the numbers to back it up, but you keep thinking that.

And btw, I've said it several times but I know you haven't been reading my responses to you (at least I hope that's your excuse)...I think ND beats Michigan.

Alright bogs, commence the name-calling about me being a chauvinist and a jerk. "Protect' her again...

EDIT: Holy hell my last 2 posts were long. Apologies to anyone who wanted to read them. Got all fired up in my responses. I've made my point, I'll let the novels go from here on out...

The sad thing is that if we win, there will be some undeserved "I told you so's" going around.

Denard has tea bagged our team twice. There is a difference between thinking we'll win, and saying that people who are cautious about this game are pessimist. Denard is a terrible passer, but he has led two game winning drives against us in clutch time two years in a row, and made us look foolish on both occasions. He owns us. We need to kick his *** this year, and I think we can. But we have no right to say he isn't a threat.
