Is Disney and Pixar’s ‘Toy Story 4’ Inclusive? One Critic Doesn’t Think So

The newest Toy Story movie, Toy Story 4, received positive reviews from fans and critics alike. It introduced a few new characters, like Bunny and Ducky, it briefly featured a child with a cochlear implant, and it summed up the next chapter of Woody, Buzz, and Jessie’s journey. Still, writer Stella Duffy has a few opinions about the new Pixar film, even calling it sexist and disablist. Read more about the critic’s honest review, here.

Why is this a thing? The main characters are fucking toys and they need feminism and inclusion of minorities and the LGBTQ+ community? Hell, the characters for the most part were all created 25+ years ago. I hope this is a joke and I just missed where it said it is.

It's not a joke, sadly. Toy Story 4 was on par or stronger than Last Jedi when it comes to pushing feminist narratives and including marginalized groups, but there are still writers looking for hits that say not enough was done. It's a frickin' kids movie! It wasn't the best Toy Story, but it was fine as far as kids movies go (My kids were a bit terrified of the creepy mannequin dolls though). Still, you don't need to include every damn marginalized group in a movie like this. There is no pleasing people.

And is you do go out of your way to include whoever you'll only get attacked for doing it wrong or for being 'racist' in the way you included them,... as we saw with a few other films over the past couple years. 'No pleasing people' is right.

"Does Irish Envy have an inclusivity problem? One contributor thinks so."

IE member Black Irish recently went on a hunger strike, well, it was actually more of an Irish whiskey strike, to call attention to the "woeful lack of diversity" on the Notre Dame football fan site. Black Irish indicates that he will only drink really terrible rail whiskey and warm Labatt's Blue until IE launches an initiative to foster more diversity, inclusiveness, and social awareness on its site. For starters, the site should do more to celebrate other football teams and their legacies. "I know this is a Notre Dame fan site, that doesn't mean we can't write positive things and even root for Notre Dame opponents to win the games against our beloved Fighting Irish. Go Michigan! Trojan Pride!"

Gov. Bill Lee signs Nathan Bedford Forrest Day proclamation, is not considering law change (Tennesseean)

First paragraphs:
Gov. Bill Lee has proclaimed Saturday as Nathan Bedford Forrest Day in Tennessee, a day of observation to honor the former Confederate general and early Ku Klux Klan leader whose bust is on display in the state Capitol.

Per state law, the Tennessee governor is tasked with issuing proclamations for six separate days of special observation, three of which, including the July 13 Forrest Day, pertain to the Confederacy.

Lee — and governors who have come before him — are also required by state law to proclaim Jan. 19 as Robert E. Lee Day, honoring the commander of the Confederate Army, as well as June 3 Confederate Decoration Day, otherwise known as Confederate Memorial Day and the birthday of Confederate President Jefferson Davis.

It should be noted per wikipedia, that while the general was the head honcho of the Klan, he left the organization...ordered it to be dissolved, and later denounced the violence of the group and desired racial harmony. He is also regarded as a supremely talented military commander.

Should they have a state day for him? Debatable. If the people want to get rid of it, Tennessee is more than capable of putting it on the ballot.

Also worth noting that Forrest was a Dem, and did a bunch to suppress both black and Republican voters in 68. I'm glad and all he changed his ways with the Klan, but he did enough other bad shit. The Fort Pillow massacre is just a non-starter for me.

Forrest is way low hanging fruit. I'm just waiting on woke folks like Legacy to go after everything Lincoln. After all, Lincoln did not believe in equality, voter's rights, and was against interracial marriage.

I am not, nor ever have been, in favor of bringing about in any way the social and political equality of the white and black races, that I am not nor ever have been in favor of making voters or jurors of negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermarry with white people; and I will say in addition to this that there is a physical difference between the white and black races which I believe will forever forbid the two races living together on terms of social and political equality. And in as much as they cannot so live, while they do remain together there must be the position of superior and inferior, and I as much as any other man am in favor of having the superior position assigned to the white race. I say upon this occasion I do not perceive that because the white man is to have the superior position the negro should be denied everything. I do not understand that because I do not want a negro woman for a slave I must necessarily want her for a wife. My understanding is that I can just let her alone. - Honest Abe

Maybe we should carve the country up and give it back to the British, French, and Mexicans. It's clear now that the founding fathers were all racist bastards and their legacy needs to be wiped clean.

Uh, it was the British, French, Spanish, and Dutch that were the racist bastards. But the Spanish didn't do anything to the Aztecs that the Aztecs didn't do to there predecessors. Slavery, human sacrifce, racial cleansing, etc, didn't start with Columbus despite what the PC crowd would have you believe.

The Lost Colony occupants might have something to add about those indigenous folks that wiped out all trace of them.

I wasn't being cavalier, but thought the event and state annual proclamation in Tenn was worth juxtaposing with the Charlottesville city council declaration. These are symbols perhaps reinterpreted by those today. If memory serves, it was after Charlottesville the KKK scheduled a march in Shelbyville and another town that we discussed Bedford Forest's history and the statue in the capitol. The march then drew many more people than the marchers in protest non-violently crossing swords. Perhaps one of those towns was Bedford Forest's birthplace. As you say, these choices are best made by the local communities for their reasons. Elected officials in both states may regret appearing in college celebrations that have overtones of Southern white supremacy, but voters can make up their own minds. By itself, the event seemed not worthy of noting here.

Originally reported as ’Chris Pratt criticised for ‘white supremacist’ T-shirt,' they amended the title to say 'Chris Pratt criticised for T-shirt choice.' He's wearing a shirt with an American flag coupled with the Gadsden flag. It was reported similarly on a lot of sites. It's all ridiculous.

The US men's soccer team, and Nike, who used it in the US men's 2010 campaign, must be racist too....

IMO, best flag in US history. Was used by the US/Continental Marines before the 13 star American flag was created. Folks just hate it because the Tea Party picked it up. Now it's racist... I wonder if some Neo Nazi crazies started using the rainbow flag, would the rainbow flag be racist?

Speaking of the moon landing and this being the 50th anniversary of it tomorrow, I was wondering if anyone else is old enough to remember it. I was 9 years old and very clearly remember sitting with my family in our den watching it on an old black & white TV. It always amazed me (still does) that in just my grandfather's lifetime (1899-1979) we went from the Wright Brothers' first powered flight to landing on the moon. What an incredible leap of progress & technology.
