The media and people like yourselves wanted this. So now you get it. The entire country shut down for the flu.
Have you any idea how many people are going to lose their jobs because of this? How many trillions this is going to cost? How many businesses are going to go under?

86% of people who get this won't even know they had it. This isn't 'The Stand'.

What a clown post. NO ONE wanted this. Look up my early posts on this subject, I tended towards thinking this was probably alarmism. I then quickly learned I was wrong, when we started seeing what was happening in Europe and that we were being misled by the Federal branch of the government.

What you're conveniently ignoring is that places tried the "it's no big deal"... and it led to catastrophe. Hospital filling up past capacity to render basic services is not some conspiracy.

Let's up the fear and hysteria level without a SINGLE fact.

There won't be a citable "fact" on this until it's formally announced, at which point it may be too late to properly prepare for a couple weeks of quarantine without the ability to grocery shop. You've been pounding your chest all week and regurgitating cable news talking points about how this is all some conspiracy to bring Trump down. If a federally enforced lockdown isn't forthcoming in the near future, feel free to crow about it. Until then, kindly STFU so others can take reasonable precautions. And FWIW, those arguing "This seems pretty serious" have been much closer to the truth thus far than the "Nothing to see here" crowd.

Get a grip Son, I think I've mentioned that once in the 10 days since I've been back from vacation from Mexico....Guess it stuck in your craw. I'm all for people taking whatever precautions THEY feel necessary...to each their own.

Rumors are turning into fact real quick. We can't fly to Europe, Casinos are shut down in Vegas, I can't even sit down to eat a meal at a restaurant, and somehow you believe Whiskey's info is just fear mongering. Yeah, it seems incredibly unreasonable given what we've seen in the last week or so. Everyone carry on.

In Iceland, everyone is so interrelated that when you go out on a date, you check an app to see how related you are. Anything 3rd cousin or more and it's 'sorry, I guess this won't work'.

3rd cousin? That's nothing in Ireland.

My understanding is the fear of a bed shortage. If a lot of folks get it in a short time, they will clog hospital beds. Since a lot of people are going to get it anyway, I think they wanna drag it out further so that people have opportunities to recover/not get it at all or something?

Where my physicians at?!?!

Not a physician, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night. My wife is also a nurse. Yeah, the general consensus is that the slower we allow this to spread, the easier it'll be for hospitals to mitigate the disease. If everyone is getting it all at once, people will be on beds in hallways at hospitals or worse...turned away.

There's an equipment shortage at hospitals as well. I'm sure that doesn't apply to every hospital but there are many that are short. My wife had a corona patient on her floor today and the hospital doesn't have N95 masks so the staff in contact with the patient just went with the double mask and cleaned up with a disinfectant afterwards. It's kinda like double bagging before you bang a hook and throwing a bit of alcohol on your unit after you finish. The burn may ease the mind but I'm not sure it's incredibly effective.

She works at one of the best hospitals in Chicago, if not the entire midwest. I know some posters on this board are interested in facts so feel free to PM me for details about my wife's employer and how to clean up after a hook.

Nobody is doubting that everything is being shut down. The debate is how drastic the country should be in doing so and how soft Western Civilization has or hasn't become.
We can all agree or disagree. Each side is obviously not alone in their thinking and each side has valid points.

61 million Americans were infected with the swine flu and there was 16,000 death sand over 575,000 deaths worldwide. But no closures of businesses, no suspension of sports seasons, no bans of public assemblies.
The media barely covered the event . WHY IS THIS HAPPENING NOW?

When the WHO declared the swine flu “unstoppable” on June 11, 2009, CNN didn’t even lead with that story on its homepage. It was in a pile of links on the side of the page. …

When Obama declared a national emergency, CNN didn’t get around to mentioning the death toll of the disease until the 10th paragraph. By that point, millions had been infected and 1,000 people in the U.S. had died.

The day after Obama’s declaration, CNN carried only a single link to the swine flu story in its “Newspulse” section. It ranked below the headline: “Wayward flight’s co-pilot denies arguing.”

The Times’ story about Obama’s declaration didn’t mention the death toll in the U.S. until the fourth paragraph. Two days later, the swine flu was off the Times’ front page again.

Nobody said conspiracy. Catastrophe isn't hospitals filling up past capacity. That's a first world problem. Life happens.
Catastrophe is the Black Plague, the Spanish Flu, famines, earthquakes that kill 250,000 people and so on.

This has been here for two weeks now. Have even 100 people died of it yet? That sounds harsh until you realize that over 7,000 people woke up this morning and died today.

I'm not saying this is 'nothing'. I'm just treating it like a bad flu. Be smart. And please don't call me names. I didn't resort to that with you.

I think Mr. Turtle has a good point.

Anything less than a good ol fashion Black Plague / Famine and yall pussies need to chill.

Filling up all the hospitals past capacity and running out of basic medical supplies? GTFO with that mess.

Put your big boy pants on and eat some chicken soup like a man, amirite?

What? That's exactly what turns this into something extremely problematic.

The attitude displayed by some in this thread is why the lockdowns/quarantines etc are gonna last into the summer.

Hey Chuck! Aren't officials saying to keep gatherings to a minimum? Why are politicians so stupid?

What we’re proposing:

If you’re a working parent and suddenly have to worry about finding a safe place for your kids to stay during the day, we would provide emergency funding to safely ramp up child care services for heavily impacted parts of the country.

Now hearing similar predictions through an unrelated channel with connections to FEMA. Hope you're all prepared.

Gonna be picking up some supplies after work, aka polenta, liquor, cheese, and some beer

Right, but there must be some step(s) above what we're in, because things have largely been open since Friday.

i've been googling all morning to find out if there are different levels to a national state of emergency - im not finding any. All I see is that once declared
government is empowered to perform actions or impose policies that it would normally not be permitted to undertake
,
Such declarations alert citizens to change their normal behavior and orders government agencies to implement emergency plans
and
States of emergency can also be used as a rationale or pretext for suspending rights and freedoms guaranteed under a country's constitution or basic law, sometimes through martial law or revoking habeus corpus
.

The white house may make additional decisions (such as deploying national guard) but it isnt any sort of new declaration. We are under state of emergency already.

Well alright. I'm with Whiskey, I completely expect Trump to ramp up efforts and restrictions.

Not disagreeing about Chuck or other politicians being stupid, but as of right now the kids’ daycare is still open. It doesn’t fall into the gatherings category as it is essential.

Honda just announced they are suspending manufacturing at all North American plants. We are the main supplier to the Honda plant in Indiana. We also have several large customers that do aero maintenance for a number of carriers. We'll probably be laying off some workers here shortly.

Update........Closing for one week, so hopefully the impact is minimal.

Which doesn't make sense as schools have shut down meaning parents have had to adjust to not having babysitting (school) to take care of their kids. Daycares are breeding grounds and when you have parents coming in and out of the daycare it adds to the ability to spread the virus.

GM & now Chrysler have announced 0% financing for 84 months w/ no payments for first 90 days. That’s what a buddy of mine who is a GM at a dealership told me.
