Have a family member that works for the gov in DC... they are hearing that the idea of a national lockdown is being seriously discussed, meaning that it's not just some bs rumor.

There’s a reason Italy was overwhelmed so quickly. Almost a third of their population is elderly.

https://www.livescience.com/why-italy-coronavirus-deaths-so-high.html

I posted a good article from Time mag on Italy a bit ago that may add info to yours. They point out COVID 19 was probably circulating there undiagnosed for at least a month. Respiratory and sepsis deaths during that time were often attributed to the flu. They also don't have the facilities that we have to help people recover when they are hospitalized. That would increase their mortality rates.

NHL shutting down. Looks like MLB will be announcing a postponement to the season shortly.

IMO, the NCAA should just cancel the tournament.

SEC announced they're cancelling the BB tourney. I just got a text saying my town's annual father/daughter dance tonight has been postponed until this is over.

I guess we can all thank the Chinese for eating bats, cats, rats, snakes, monkeys and dogs.

They'll eat anything over there. And now the world is paying for it.

This is like the fourth time or so you've gone off on the Chinese in the last few days,... trying to figure out if you actually hate them, or if you're trying to be funny in a pretend racist sort of way......

I imagine all elective surgeries will be canceled and rescheduled at some later date. Often those people who have not received the flu and pneumonia vaccines prior to elective procedures will get them before those are done. Those cancelations would open more beds.

I have a family member in public service in Ohio.

The authorities are preparing as if they're going to eventually shut down gas stations in the state for several days as a means of keeping people from traveling.

It depends on the incubation period of course... but hopefully that is an indication that the virulence is actually less than has been assumed (I think something like a 1% mortality rate is what most places are projecting).

Poor ESPN right now. What will they talk about for ~4 weeks? They are already reaching for material as is.

IFF true, makes the mortality rate being reported a joke. Which I've been saying from D1.

Anyone's guessing on when there will be a cure. But Trump acted directly and swiftly and funded $8 Billion for scientists to find a cure.

And he has a knack at pushing performance. We're lucly he's at the helm if this is as serious as SOME say.

In 2018, Trump fired the entire US pandemic response team.

They were not replaced.

He eliminated the positions.

You know nothing. Can’t you for one time just admit that.

I've been texting with a Surgeon friend of mine all week. And just got off of a third, 1 hour meeting of 6 total people, one of which was the Chief Medical Officer of the largest healthcare company in the world. You won't believe this, but that's OK with me.

So I'm sorry to burst your bubble but I'm not necessarily an average Joe when it comes to this one.

Last week you thought buying a timeshare was a good financial decision because you could pass a “deed” onto your kids. You’re an idiot.

Before everyone piles on Koon, I will say that a good friend that works in public safety got a message from Homeland Security that basically said to wash your hands and use hand sanitizer, and you'll probably be fine.

Even if you contract it, you'll likely be better in a few days, so there's really not even a reason to rush out and try to get tested. Kids and pregnant women are affected wayyyy less.

The risk is for the elderly, or people who already have compromised immune systems, which is really why everything is getting put on lockdown. They don't want to flood the healthcare system with older people that will have other age-related issues magnified by COVID, or vice-versa.

That's the part I don't fully get. But am happy that's the case.
