Obviously I can't list a game they haven't played yet when we don't know who the opponent is...
What would that game comparison look like if you placed MSU/OSU/UM in Iowa's toughest game slot? We already know that, whoever they play, will be their highest ranked team of the year.

Jayhawk sounds like an Indian guy on a tech help line that says "Thank you for calling, glad to help" after every sentence as he slowly erodes your patience and tells you obviously wrong information.

"How is ND's resume better? Glad to have a conversation."
"Here's a breakdown of every game and neutral statistical analysis that says it is."
"How is it better though? Glad to have a conversation."
"I mean we just told you."
"But how? Glad to have a conversation."

How you can watch that game on Saturday and defend the idea that we should be in a playoff spot right now is beyond me.

Yes we played a tough schedule. Yes we can beat anyone on any given day. But in the stretch run here Oklahoma and Iowa are flat out playing better football.

What do you want credit for? Turning the ball over and losing to Clemson? Turning the ball over and squeaking by Temple? Turning the ball over and squeaking by BC?

Play a fundamentally sound, tough game at Stanford, win by 2 touchdowns and force them to respect you.

And a month ago, we were playing better football. The playoff doesn't even start until a month after the end of the season; sure those teams look good right now, but will they look better than us next month? Probably not---The season has shown that we're the better team overall and we're getting back some key players for the bowl game. So why the hell does a two game stretch for them matter any more than a two game stretch for us? There's a reason we look at the entire season and not just this game or that game.

Apologies for not being very articulate. I've been looking at the committee rankings, not the one that LAX used above. That's certainly a disconnect.

By the committee rankings, ND's best win is Navy. I don't reject the idea that ND's schedule is better than Iowa's. It clearly is. But if you think that Iowa hasn't beaten anyone, it's hard to say that ND has either.

Eye test recency clearly matters to the committee (see 2014 Ohio State who barely beat PSU and lost to VT early on). If you look good right now, you're going to be ranked higher. If our chances come down to the eye test versus some other team, the best thing we can do for ourselves is beat Stanford handily today (i.e. show the committee we're currently playing good football).

I loathe this argument. If only the last 3 weeks of the season matter why do we even bother playing the other 9. Iowa and OU look good now? Good they're finally catching up to us. The Big 12 decided it was finally time to play some decent competition? Good they're catching up to us. OU is the flavor of the month and is (likely) going to ride that momentum to a playoff spot when over the course of 12 games we've been the better team that has played better competition.

I'll get killed for this

I'm not sure ND beats Iowa on a neutral field if they played this weekend.

Don't worry guys, David Pollack just broke it all down. The brand that is ND doesn't have a shot at all.

May not even waste my time watching the game tonight.

Yes he is. Idiot just said he'd put a 2 loss Michigan in the playoff over a 1 loss ND.

I thought I just heard that. I have it on I the background and did a double take. Thought I must have misheard. That is fvcking stupid.

I wouldn't "kill you" for your statement. But I think we have way more play-makers than Iowa has seen all year and our defense would find a way to stuff them up. We would win by two scores...IMO

I think this is probably true. Iowa doesn't have the athletes.

Also said if ND beats Stanford and Oklahoma loses, we still need help to get into the playoffs.

That doesn't make sense. Not even in a nd deserves to be in way. There's simply no one left to jump.us if that happens.

Im at the point where i dont care anymore. Lets chop some trees today and see where we're at. Regardless of if we're in or out we'll get a good bowl, and thats a pretty successful season based on everyones preseason expectations and considering we got hit hard with the injury bug

ND has a better schedule than Iowa but ND lost a game and Iowa didn't.

Y'all are posting like the team with the best SOS trumps everything.

Regardless, as I mentioned a few days ago, debating Iowa v. ND is completely pointless. If they beat MSU they will rightfully be in. If they lose, they will rightfully be out.

Focus all the hate on Oklahoma and Alabama.

There are like four separate discussions:

1. Is Iowa good? I say no, most measures say some version of "hell no."

2. Does Iowa deserve to be in over Notre Dame? I say yes if they win their conference, and I'm not sure that's really arguable. So it's almost moot to discuss Iowa relative to ND.

3. Is Notre Dame good? Have they been playing well lately? As was spelled out in this thread or another, the idea that Notre Dame has been playing "bad" over the last month is flat out wrong. In three out of four games (Temple, Pitt, Wake Forest) the score line is better than pretty much every other team in the country has done against those teams. So relative to the rest of college football, we did very well even if not pretty enough for us fans.

Against BC? Different story. That is the one game where you can legitimately gripe on this team looking bad.

4. So who does Notre Dame deserve to be in over? Without question, Notre Dame deserves to be in over Oklahoma State and Michigan even if neither lose another game, IMO. You can't just match up "best wins"... that's lazy. When you look at how Oklahoma State and Michigan have played all year and their entire body of work it becomes really clear that there isn't a logical case for either of them. You have to be very biased and say "eye test" or whatever to justify one of them.

Of the realistic contenders, those are the only two, IMO, where it's very clear cut in favor of ND. Every other one I think probably gets in over us... even a one-loss Florida should they win out.

And it must be said...
All of this is pretty pointless because odds are squarely against us beating Stanford. I don't really see it happening without KVR... I think we give up too many points.

I actually agree with pretty much all of this...except that I think Iowa is better than you think they are. Not a top 5 team, but maybe around 12-15.

I also think ND has a real shot today, even without KVR.

But both of those points might just be the homer in me.

Ok, yea, I agree with almost everything you've said, except I would point out that our win against temple was followed by temple losing by 21 to South Florida, so regardless of what the metrics say, that's not a very good win for us.

Also, you don't have to be biased to put in Sparty or Okie St ahead of us, if they win their conference championship, unfortunately for us, we have to be clearly better to get in over a conference champion. I think there are strong arguments to be made that we are better, but not strong enough to clear that bar v a B1G champion Sparty with wins over Oregon, Ohio St, and Michigan. Okie St is a closer call, where I think the argument might go our way even with the elevated burden we have.

It's been a fantastic season IMO. We have a shot, albeit a long one at this point but the team exceeded all my expectations for the year. Let's hope the young men have a great deal of fight and grit left in the tank and they show the Cardinal a good ass kicking.

Here is to hoping a big can of Irish whoop ass is opened up.

Go Irish!
