We beat Wake Forest by more than anyone but UNC (including Clemson). Never trailed, 3 score victory. And ESPN still said it was bad because we were "out gained" as if that matters in a 21 point victory. Like WTF is this standard that only we get held to?

We put up more yards than anyone on BC (out gained! yay!) and lead by 2 scores pretty much the entire game. It looks ugly because we have a bunch of bad turnovers. Fine.

MSU gets a complete pass for their half dozen shitty, close victories though over TERRIBLE teams? Really???

ND is objectively superior to every one of the schools ranked ahead of us in at least some metrics. But somehow the committee is allowed to just say "meh, eye test, go f*ck yourself" and that's fine?
Objectively superior? Most people on here have us losing to Stanford!

I have no defense for Michigan State. Iowa is undefeated, so that is what it is. My point was mostly about Oklahoma. If we played Kansas or K-State, we'd win by 8.

I've watched a fair amount of Kansas this year. ND would blow Kansas' doors off.

No, ND SHOULD blow Kansas' doors off. We'd give up a punt return touchdown or garbage time touchdown or fall for trick plays or fumble twelve times. We'd find a way to keep it close.

Complaining about MSU or Iowa is an absolutely pointless exercise as once one beats the other, they will be in the playoffs and they will deserve it. So let's just move on from that.

Oklahoma jumping us this week really sucks as I don't get how they proved so much in this one week to make the jump. But perhaps it's a culmination of ND just not showing the committee it can look like a top 5 team, final scores be damned.

When I watched Oklahoma play Baylor or before their QB got hurt against TCU I was like damn, they are fucking good.

When I watched us play Wake, BC, and Temple, I thought we looked pretty blah.

If I wasn't an ND fan I would have turned off the BC game after probably 5 minutes. It was a terrible game. Committee probably saw that and was like, can we really put that team on television on NYE?

Can't we all be happy with a New Years six bowl game

Of course. I will be one of the first to take solace in that if things don't shake out the way we hope. But right now, it's fun to speculate the many scenarios that still open the door to the playoffs.

How was business NOT handled against Wake Forest when we beat them worse than Clemson? We beat them worse than ANYONE has besides North Carolina. So out-performing 11 out of 12 teams is now a bad team?

ND is the only team where you can beat a team by 21 points... beat them worse than pretty much anyone has the whole year... and have the ESPN personalities talk about how you "looked bad" because you were out gained.

It's completely inconsistent bullshit.

I appreciate your passion. Sadly, this is the summation of both games and the appearance they present. As it pertains to the Wake Forest game, we are looking at the #4 team in the country who is today the 29th ranked offense and the 37th best defense vs. the 119th best offense and 40th best defense. Yes ND won the game by a good number, but lost the time of possession battle for 3 quarters. They also had more 1st downs rushing (11-5) and 1 more passing. They also had more yards and if you take away Adams long run, it wasn't close. None of this mattered last week after the W, But in retrospect, it gave the committee something to bring up this week.

As for the BC game (another W against a good to great D) they saw ND struggle against a pathetic 3 win offense that we beat by 3. Wake Forest (3 wins) also beat BC by 3. Clemson beat both Wake and BC with a cushion (for example)!

The committee and the talking heads of the sports world are looking for sexy. They want a new Corvette, bought yesterday (Oklahoma, Michigan State, off strong wins)! We were a the Corvette after Texas and GT. They can't justify putting a 1992 Chevy Iroc Z on the showroom floor (us today)!

So if Oklahoma State beats Oklahoma do they pass us?

Eh. Doubt it. Their other win is TCU, which gets less impressive by the week. And they don't have Tennessee. If they blow out OU maybe, but I think Sooners get more benefit of the doubt, as they should.

I don't think anybody cares who did what against Wake Forest. Or Texas. Or even Navy or USC. As Olympia said at the top of this page, you get in the playoffs by beating the best team on your schedule. If you don't do that, you've got an uphill fight.

Between this year and last year I think it's become pretty obvious that resume is the gatekeeper rather than the standard.

Resume puts you in the conversation. Then it's a matter of "do you look the part." I don't think we've looked the part since Navy.

You can argue we haven't looked the part in any games outside of Texas, Clemson, and Navy (maybe USC)

1. We have had opportunities to project ourselves as a power team, and I don't think we have done it. Missed opportunities vs WF and BC, and really didn't play well in either game.
2. Kudos to the team. They have had a great year despite a string of potential events that might have turned the season into 5-5 instead of 10-1. The players that have stepped up to fill the shoes of the starters is amazing, and the results impressive.
3. Coming into the season, I would take 10-1 after 11 games any day.
4. One game to go. Gotta take it to Stanford, we can win IF we play a complete game, which we haven't played for some time. Turnovers & special teams usually rule the day.
5. If we win vs Stanford, there is a chance we earn a playoff spot. If not, we earn a NYD bowl game. I'm good with that.
6. If we lose vs Stanford, we still probably earn a NYD bowl game. Good with that, especially if we go out and win to end 11-2.
7. Continue to recruit and build depth. Coach & staff are way ahead of previous regimes in this aspect. We're getting better, but not sure if we truly are up with the big dogs....yet.
8. Witnessed wins vs Texas, GT, and USC. Couldn't ask for more. Should have arranged for Stanford game back when I had a chance, think ND will show up and win.
9. Glad I live in Texas, and not in Syria, Iraq, or the other killing fields...Happy Thanksgiving to all.

I wondered a few minutes ago.. How many of these guys I feel as tho I know; have ever been to Fenway Park. At that moment; Billy Bean came to mind, and I don't think anyone with any substance inside could talk about the real history of Boston sports. WE Won 19-16 in an epic game thats going to be talked about for as long as the human race can get along... Let's appreciate the realness that we are apart of. minus ISIL.... and we'll be happily ever after.

It comes down to our performance against Stanford, and OK's performance against OK St.. We got Ws but shit the bed against two teams whom we should have beat the crap out of.. I've said both weeks we need style points. We did not.

If we handily beat Stanford, and OK struggles or loses, we might luck out and get a spot. Assuming Mich St doesn't lay a turd, they are in. Even if OK loses, Baylor could squeeze in with two impressive wins vs TCU and TX, and a narrow ND win.

We just need to pound Stanford and let the chips fall while hoping for some luck...

Right now I'm wishing for.....
Iowa loss to Nebraska
Mich St loss to PSU
OhSU loss to scUM
OK loss to OKSt
Baylor Loss to TCU
Bama loss to Auburn
FL loss to FSU

Basically, and I am not exaggerating, Will Fuller--who got us to 10-1--cost ND the playoff with his poor hands.

I think that is stupid. This whole beauty pageant crap is too much.

But who knows what will happen this week?

I don't really see it as a beauty pageant... we had two ugly wins against crappy teams. Got Ws, but we didn't execute. IMO, we won on pure talent, even though a lot of that talent was sloppy. MichSt had a sexy road win. Iowa is undefeated. OK on the other hand had a sloppy hold-on win vs a team that used to be sexy... I do think we can jump OK with a sexy win at Stanford so long as OK does not pound OKSt.
