No idea if this is going to embed. It is Antonio Cromartie (who apparently coaches DBs at A&M now, who knew?) talking about NIL. Seems like A&M is already winning their stupid prizes from stupid games....

I really do wonder how the locker room is going to be effected by NIL. In some places I don't think it would be a big issue, but we are talking about 18 - 22 year old athletes. Could get interesting in some places.

Just listening to the latest ISD podcast and Mike mentioned something about NIL. Sounds like we have something brewing to compete with some of the other NIL programs and it doesn't involve the school.

Yeah I was pleasantly surprised to hear that. He made it clear nothing was set in stone, but talks are happening and not only that -- that part that really got me excited was him saying that if he was going to do it, he would do it EXACLTY how it's being talked about. Maybe ND isn't going to just roll over after all with regards to NIL? Love it, it's a new era!

Should I consult a lawyer? Seems like they’ve ripped of my brilliant idea.

Not really.

From 2019-2020, Lee represented the Southeastern Conference on behalf of Division I student-athletes on the NCAA Board of Governors Federal and State Legislation Working Group and was one of just three student-athletes invited to participate in the Group. In this role, he provided input as a former student-athlete on how to properly compensate student-athletes for their Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) while maintaining the NCAA’s core values and amateur status.

This is ND trying to win while still playing by the book, not realizing the book just got thrown out. The NCAA opened a loophole big enough that other teams are driving Brinks trucks through it while ND is going to raise their nose at it and pretend that we are morally superior because we don't stoop so low.

Pretty hilarious to see Jimbo getting so pissy today acting like his recruiting class wasn't bought.

Also it's not the VP of ND. It's the VP ND University Relations. Or in other words, a guy who works for Notre Dame. They have like 100 VPs

I don't believe him that he isn't aware of things at A&M.

But I do agree with his premise. There are lots of people running their mouth about A&M but it's not like they are clean either. The whole sport is quickly approaching CBB slime factor, which is really hard to do.

WTF was he getting at talking about the Vice President of Notre Dame? Keep our name outta your dirty mouth, you son of a bitch.

What a hypocrite. Just embrace it. There's at least some semblance of honestly in that.

The only time in his spiel that irked me was when he said we praise Alabama for their QB getting an $800,000 deal and get mad at them for "doing the same thing".

Like sir, that is totally different. Alabama didn't recruit him with 800k (at least publicly). He earned it in college. Everyone is mocking you and upset at you because you are paying to recruit. I say either embrace the fact that your university and alumni are so invested that it's great, or wallow in self-pity because you don't like that people don't respect you as a recruiter/program builder. But none of the points he makes really defend him. His ego is just bruised. Simple as that.

First he brags and laughs about NIL, and then out of the other side of his mouth acts indignant that anyone would suggest that they're signing people because of NIL. Comical.

Worst part is that it's a scripted rant with a notecard and a teed up first question. Basically, poor performance art.

Idk if this has been talked about before. I know ND as a university would never pipe out the NIL cash that A&M currently is doing, but what is holding NDs alumni and booster network from offering these type of deals?

Nothing really. The problem is that if you're going to use structured, organized NIL deals to recruit a la TAMU, you have to coordinate with the coaching staff in order to entice the players they want. If the school/coaching staff isn't on board and involved with using NIL deals to recruit, it's not going to be very effective.

Does ND have any ultra rich alumni? I assume ND would have some rich fans

A&M has a lot, a LOT of Oil money
USC has a lot, a LOT of entertainment, music (Dre and Beats) and film money

It's different in South Bend.

Even the famous Mendoza is not as wealthy as one would think.

Let me pull up with a cool mill in my trunk and see how effective I can be.

I found out this is why Bronco Mendenhall walked away from his good coaching gig at UVA. He did not want to be a part of the changing college landscape and basically the end of the amateur student athlete. My guess is he won't be the last coach to do so.

Cautionary tale taking place at FSU right now. DB Jarvis Brownlee isn’t practicing until he gets his NIL money.

The list of “collectives” publicly established:

It’d have to think only a QB warrants that splash, honestly Nico kind of makes sense if I’m blindly throwing a dart.

If it’s him, based on his Twitter activity I am thinking Tennessee. They’ve been in on a lot more top recruits than previous cycles.

Edit: Tennessee’s board thinks it’s him/them, and they’re actually not happy

Correct, it’s allegedly Nico I and Tennessee.

Lax, I think it was you that alluded to it in the past, but is there any indication some ND alumni/boosters will be doing one of these collectives? IPC isn’t considered one yeah?

This is all really turning me off from CFB.
