There it is.

At least there won't be a lengthy vetting process.

Who knows? Maybe they struck gold here. It's time we got lucky again.

Sweet, still in charge of linebackers too. Minimizes turnover and lets them focus on a safeties coach.

“I cannot express how grateful I am to Father Jenkins, Jack Swarbrick and Brian Kelly for their confidence in my ability to take on this new role,” said Lea. “I am indebted to them, and to the student-athletes that I have been blessed to work with over the past year — without their commitment and belief in me, and a greedy Mike Elko, I realize that none of this would be possible. Notre Dame represents everything I want to be a part of in my career as an educator, and I am deeply humbled to be able to continue my work here.”

Nvm. Just checked his ND bio. He was assistant head coach. Not sure what the difference is but I'm guessing more $ and maybe more responsibility.

Per Eric Hansen on WSBT Sportsbeat, Elston will stay with probably a sweetening of his title and bump in pay

He's now an associate (to the) head coach. That's gotta mean something

I’m comfortable with this hire. Seems like a quality coach curious to see the reaction of the commits.

I think this is the most relevant information from the release concerning his new responsibilities:
In addition to his duties related to coaching the defensive line, Elston will represent the program when directed to so by Kelly or when Kelly is unavailable. This will include but not be limited to assisting in managing the football program, participating in press conferences, making public appearances (including alumni and donor functions) and attending departmental and University meetings.

It sounds like even more prep to be a HC because he can say he has a better handle on the admin and donor relations stuff than other candidates.

Kelly must be thrilled that he'll get to push some of this stuff off on Elston.

Quite happy with this promotion. Consistency is vital. A good young coach that can and does relate well with the players. A guy who recruits his booty off. A guy that has learned under a very good system. And, perhaps most importantly, a guy that seems to really want to be here. Best of luck, Coach Lea. Let's crack some skulls.

It was just a joke. Last year he was given asst HC when they named Elko Dc to soften the blow of not getting the DC position.

AND This year they did the exact same thing again.

But joking aside I hope he does get paid more, for doing the EXACT same job as last year And the year before, because he does a great job and deserves it

Assistant gets coffee, and takes meeting minutes...

Associate gets a part of the HC responsibilites...

or something like that...:)

kidding...kinda.

Very happy with this decision. Lea is an excellent coach. This was the best possible outcome.
