After everything that happened at OSU, why would that store have Trent Richardson's jersey on the wall?

This doesn't make sense...Let's wait till all the facts are out till everyone piles on Alabama.

He was the Heisman favorite in my book and an impact player. Will be crazy if he is done for the year.... but I imagine he gets AJ Green treatment.

they should exile him and Saban some park style... with every Bama fan tearing off a piece of clothing then spitting on them before they send them off on a horse bound for PETA

I agree completely with this. RT @jagvocate: This is what the SWC was like right before it died.

Why did so many Alabama football players sign so much stuff for one men's store owner? | al.com
Kevin Scarbinsky, Birmingham News
7/26/11

...

An Alabama source said Friday that the school did not believe the eligibility of any current player was in jeopardy and that the school did not forward information about the situation to the SEC or NCAA. That seems an awfully confident stance given the current enforcement climate.

Georgia Tech turned a relatively minor eligibility issue into a major infractions case - and lost its 2009 ACC title - because the NCAA said the school didn't fully cooperate. Despite major violations, LSU avoided major sanctions because the NCAA praised the proactive nature of the school's own investigation.

Wouldn't it be prudent of Alabama to turn over its self-report to the SEC and the NCAA just to be on the safe side?

...

All the gear in the store and all the photos on the Internet depicting a close relationship between Albetar and Alabama players are at least suggestive, if not suspicious, but they're not conclusive. It may be up to the NCAA at some point to decide what it all means.

It would be interesting to see If they man up and face the music like OSU did. They could start by booting trent and forfeiting all wins last year. Roll Tide!

Given that they didn't report it and said no current player is in jeopardy that leads me to believe they probably cleaned this up behind the scenes. Burned the paper trail and paid off the snitches.

If these kids are not benefiting in any way from this, then why in the hell would they take the time to go to some old white man's suit store and sign a whole bunch of memorabilia for him??????????? Anyone?

I'm hoping the Alabama and Auburn fans will be combing the locale looking for each others' misdeeds and we will enjoy a mutual annihilation scenario.

Like watching the Romulons and Klingons go to war with each other...

I like it...

Maybe this will evolve from a heap of Bama trouble to a heap of SEC troubles.

Sorta like that.

But I'm probably just day dreaming. :)

WINNER WINNER CHICKEN DINNER!

Why in the hell would a "student athlete" who spends 18 hours a day in class, studying, and practicing their butts off take time out of a busy schedule to line the pockets of a stuffy old-money blueblood when they come from poverty themselves?

Unfortunately, we all know the SEC is very good at cheating, and even better at covering it up.

FWIW, Bama is already on probation, so even a sniff of malfeasance should bring a swift and crushing hammer.

Andrew Luck, LaMichael James, and Landry Jones are all bigger Heisman candidates, IMO.

We'll see what happens here. After the OSU situation, I don't know how hard the penalties will be, if there are any.

Bama disassociates from store owner
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Alabama has disassociated itself from a local store owner for three years but says he didn't break any NCAA rules.

Alabama officials had ordered T-Town Menswear owner Stan Albetar in December to stop selling, distributing or promoting items signed by or depicting current athletes. Compliance director Mike Ward said in a statement Tuesday that Albetar appeared to be in compliance with the rules and that an internal investigation didn't turn up evidence that an athlete received extra benefits.

Ward says the university sent the Tuscaloosa businessman a letter dated March 31 disassociating him from the program after discussing it with the Southeastern Conference office.

The letter stated that Albetar had potentially put the university and athletes at risk by displaying memorabilia.

SPORTSbyBROOKS » Why is Richardson Signing With a Suit Jacket On?

more pics and stuff about Bama. looks more and more suspicious

Saban in the article:

“Our compliance people have been on top of this for a long time. I think this is an example of somebody…it’s not a violation if you sign a shirt for somebody, you just can’t receive compensation for it. We’ve done a cease-and-desist with this establishment a long time ago to make sure everybody understands what players can and can’t do.”

Sounds like something Lane Kiffin would say....
