I have a gift, GoldenDomer, for the obvious.

Or is that for the oblivious?

Maybe just obfuscation ...

Love ya bogs and BVG but his D was absolute garbage against UNC prior to injuries. He refused to change his D while they got shredded against very inferior talent, something a good DC would do. The NW game regardless of injuries was the worst D peromance of of the Kelly era, IMO. The previous stats by their O backs that up.

You are kidding, aren't you. Guy comes in. Sets a bunch of stuff up. Then the frozen four happens. Losing the defensive lineman with experience was bad enough, but losing K Russel was catastrophic! Russel, Riggs, and Luke on the field all season, and you have a totally different defensive capability. Your options are reduced by 90% without them.

And. Going into the game Brian Kelly made a point that he expected matchup problems. ND wasn't the only team UNC gave fits to this year. If they had a defense, they would have truly hurt some people. Speaking of hurting, we were banged up against Stanford, and I think it affected the practice week for UNC. Can't remember exacts, but my mind places a little pin there . . .

I saw BVG yesterday at Mass.

I'm proud that he was there. It was pretty awesome to see a coach living what the University embodies. Makes me feel like he's probably a good fit.

He was probably praying that we land a S in this recruiting class.

Can't say I disagree with LL's assessment. After the Stanford game I do believe I remembering us being as healthy as we ever were post Stanford. I am pretty sure BK came and said that specifically. We headed into UnC healthy and played pooooooooor defense against what Bk later admitted were definite match up problems.

What happened after UNC gave teams a template. van Gorder could not adapt to the up tempo and with later smattering of injuries it only worsened. But that being the cas at least tempering all out blitzes or in game adjustments should have been made. He was not great at that this year. Not all his fault but......

No, not kidding at all. BVG even admitted to poor game planning post UNC. That's when he admitted to his strategy of "situational" football and player groupings wasn't going to work against the hurry up offenses. Also if you statistically look at the NW game for example, they had 547 yards of offense about 200 over there average. That's really how we should measure that game. They were a terrible offense until they came to ND. I'm not abandoning him yet but regardless of injuries there were problems. I expect better things this year but to act as if it is "all good" is not happening and even the staff knows that.

Rumor I heard. BVG to join the raiders staff?

Dunno, the Louisville guy turned down the Raiders offer. And BVG was floated in a list of potential candidates because of his relationship with Del Rio. But there are a lot of people that basically shot down the "rumor" earlier and I don't know if that still holds true. It's hard to think we let Cooks walk if BVG was headed to Raiders, but at the same time it's a bit weird the Raiders still haven't filled their opening.

But.... he and LaFleur and Cooks were the three guys absent from recruit videos. Certainly seems interesting.

Saw this today, the part at the end made me laugh. Possibly could be another VanGorder .gif in the making...but only if the defense stays together this year

i really havent been impressed with our D at all. It may be picky considering we're 10-1, but with our talent i think theres alot to be desired on defense

Paul Rhoads fired by Iowa State. Should take a look at him for DC.

This. We need someone who will let the guys play football instead of filling their minds with a million fucking things that don't work anyway.

Are we assuming Van Gorder picks up a head coaching gig this offseason? Because even though I have my qualms with this d, firing him would be a crazy, crazy decision.
