Doesn't seem big but I can see how someone could pick it up and run with it. Nothing should come of it,though. Just thought I would share though.

Eifert Tweets Recruit

EDIT from NDinL.A.: It's just Brian Hamilton trying to make a story up out of nothing...

Probably deserves a separate thread as to not clog up Jaylon's space.

In any case, nothing major. To borrow from IrishInFL

Brian Hamilton is one of those people who I wouldn't want to necessarily see hit by a bus... but feel his bad karma, douchebaggery and "journalism" at least warrants a kidney stone or two.

Or maybe just a frivolous sexual harassment lawsuit that gets him fired. Boy wouldn't that be just deserts.

I told myself I'd give the Tribune another try some time down the road (after the Seeberg debacle)...guess it was too soon.

About a 2 weeks ago I painted the front bumper of a Honda civic. Lady hit a pedestrian and killed the Guy :(

Ok, let's try another. How about a Smart car. If not that, at least large moped at a high rate of speed.

Yeah, if it is an NCAA violation for a current player to say he is excited to meet a recruit from his hometown, the NCAA is worse than I thought.

im no lawyer, but 1 could easily argue the 2 sentences are not related. obviously they r, but they are diff statements.

I dont quite understand the rule, seems to be public news when rcts visit. So why would something like this even be a small infraction?

Ah hell, the program is crumbling at the foundation. If only it was a case of taking money, cars, tattoos, hookers and blow, then I could see us getting off lightly, but tweets to perspective student/Athletes is where it is crossing the line of Institutional Control. Fire Kelly!

Don't get me wrong, I hate Brian Hamilton as much as the next guy, but I don't see why all the hate is being spewed over this report. It's unfortunate, but he picked up on something that is a legitimate violation via NCAA rules. Better for something small like this to happen now and the players to learn than for something worse down the road. Hamilton is simply reporting, the NCAA is the one with ridiculous rules. You can't really expect Hamilton to ignore NDs violations just because we are ND fans

Its about his choice of tone, headline, and phrasing.

At worse, we'll loose a scholly for the upcoming season. Were at 84 now, so, it'll be no big deal. What a stupid rule.

LOFL.....:

Lane Kiffin, coach of a team that is on probation and had the most severe sanctions bestowed on them since the Pony Express, publicly texted about the need to get Agholor before they had his LOI, so I really doubt THIS issue would cause much of a tremor in the NCAA offices.

This doesn't belong in an article, but probably could have been one of the "in other news" items placed at the bottom of an article. Eifert made a mistake and Brian Hardin is right: it will be used as an opportunity to remind the players to watch what they tweet.

To paraphrase Woody Hayes: "the only reason this is a secondary violation is because the NCAA doesn't have a tertiary, quaternary, or quinary". Ok, Woody probably didn't know what those last three words meant.

Why not just round up a posse of those old-timer alumns and fans in Hoverounds and Rascals, have them make a circle and drop Hamilton in the middle? Then have them "kick" him around like it was a soccer drill.

(I'm not in the "scooter set" – yet.)

Eifert's recruiting tweet draws attention

Eifert's recruiting tweet draws attention

Notre Dame football: Eifert's recruiting tweet draws attention - southbendtribune.com

By BOB WIENEKE
South Bend Tribune Staff Writer
1:13 p.m. EST, March 3, 2012

...

Eifert Friday night tweeted this: "Big recruiting day tomorrow here at ND. Looking forward to meeting and hangin with 5 star Fort Wayne native @JaeeSmiff9ENT."

And the big deal is?

Eifert was referring to ND recruiting target Jaylon Smith, a talented junior outside linebacker/defensive end from Fort Wayne, Eifert's hometown. Smith, who plays at Bishop Luers High School, made an unofficial visit to Notre Dame on Saturday.

The problem is that a school's administrators, coaches or players are prohibited by the NCAA from publicizing a prospect's visit. Bylaw 13.10.5 says so.

...

The matter in all likelihood falls under the category of a secondary, minor violation, and does not affect Smith's recruitment, nor is it expected to cause any problems for Eifert.

...

Brian Hardin acknowledged its been fowarded to the ND Compliance Office.

I think Nick Toon (Wisconsin WR) did this last year and they, the players, got off with having to sign a paper acknowledging that they now knew the rules. or something like that.
