From all those recruit videos on WatchND, it seems as if Elston is the coach commenting on more than 75% of the recruits, Alford and Booker being the other 2. Seems like Elston had his hand in a lot of these guys, unless he is just covering for Cooks, but I believe he would be missed on the recruiting trail as well if some of the rumors are true of him leaving.

CoacingSearch is highly reputable and good at what they do. It's not Bleacher Report. Trying to figure out why they would post it or who they talked to, despite what Hoke said himself. Something is off.

nothing is off...Hoke said they talked...could be just someone got wind of it and ran before finalized...hoke could have just said yes initially and then had 2nd thoughts...maybe it is just a formality thing being worked on behind the scenes...

It would suck if Hoke is coming and they're just trying to keep it quiet....I mean, the irony would be delicious, but I don't like the idea of Hoke coaching on our sideline. The fact they even talked to him makes me...hold on...feeling nauseous....PANDFAN said:

You have to ask? Hoke isn't the brightest crayon in the box. Stupid shit came out of his mouth on a weekly basis at scUM. The whole concussion situation with Shane Morris didn't exactly show Hoke's attention to detail either. Oh, and the fact he refuses to wear a headset, despite the obvious communication benefits with the other staff. He also tried to embarrass ND with the whole chicken comments, which came back to bite him in the ass. Aside from getting Michigan to play well against two of their biggest rivals (ND and tOSU), Hoke routinely left his team unprepared against everyone else. Need I go on? I don't want a guy like that on our staff.

If you read through this thread, you'd quickly find that you're in the minority here. Literally no one feels he's a good HC. But if he gets hired as a position coach/recruiter, then yes, most people here feel it'd be a great hire.

I may be in the minority, but looking back through the thread I'm seeing LAX and 3...maybe 4 others that have verbally said they like the hire. I wouldn't say that's a strong number of posters. Most of those comments came when the news was first announced too, not after Hoke shot it down. Perception and opinion of a coach is much higher when you think he's on your team now
To be honest, he probably would be a decent position coach, and the past has shown that he can recruit, but I worry about the bone headed decisions he makes the rest of the time.

Awkward....Head coaches who lose their gig need a year on ice to process what just happened to them. Coaches with lingering regrets or who've lost the hunger are risky...JMHO. What do I mean by lost the hunger...well, if you aren't coaching like you are developing yourself to become a head coach, details suffer. I know people can cite for me a list of great lifetime assistants, but Hoke clearly was not of that mindset...I hope he does well, and embraces his role...just risky.
