The whole way the bowls work goes over my head but at least according to the college football video games I play the Big 12 champ goes to the Fiesta Bowl unless the Big 12 champ goes to the National Championship. The Cotton Bowl however has been Big 12 SEC at least for as long as the BCS has been around. Speaking of Cotton Bowl I wish we still had ties to that game. It's a good Bowl to go to outside the BCS. Even with the ACC tie-ins next year we dont have any January Bowls we can go to unless we make the playoffs.

This is true. But the peach bowl, I will not call it by its new name, on December 31st is a damn good bowl

I'll bring this over from BCS Rankings thread:

I'll take the Pinstripe Bowl.

Currently, it would be Notre Dame vs Cincinnati.

Matchup normally is between #4 AAC & #7 Big 12

Only 5 Big 12 teams are currently bowl eligible.

Currently battling for 6th and 7th is Kansas State (4-4) and West Virginia (4-5).

Kansas State has: @TTU (7-2), TCU (3-6), Oklahoma (7-1), and @Kansas (2-6)

West Virginia has: Texas (6-2), @Kansas (2-6), and Iowa St. (1-7)

Need either KState or WVU to finish with 5 wins to play in the "lesser, but still respectable" Pinstripe Bowl.

Otherwise we could be looking at a real crap bowl game..

would getting detroyed in a BCS game get us anymore respect than winning a shite bowl game? I mean BCS is better but other than one Bama fan it seems making it and getting beat hasnt earned us any respect with anyone else. At least if people are still gonna knock us isnt it better to at least end the season as a winner. Not saying we dont have the talent to win a BCS game but I just dont like how we match up with FSU, Baylor, Oregon, OSU, and Bama

If the choice is:

Finish 10-2, get beat in a BCS bowl, maybe even demolished, finish 10-3;

or

Finish 9-3, Beat a middling team in a crappy bowl and finish 10-3;

I would take the BCS loss 100 times out of 100.

However, there is an argument to be made of "perception" and "track record."

ND has been in three BCS games, got waxed in all three. If they were to make it to a fourth and get beat again, what would this do to ND's perception in the eyes of the playoff committee?

Would they look past it, or would they (even if it's subtly) be biased against picking ND as one of four teams because of their record against the other big dogs in the BCS?

Perhaps an undefeated SEC, an undefeated B1G, a one-loss SEC, a one-loss Big XII, and a one-loss ND are the top 5 at the end of the season. Does ND get in over any of the one-loss teams? I would hope so, but perception will matter, no matter what the committee says about their "criteria."

the answer to your question can be found by looking very carefully at all the GIFS in the "Pleas God No BCS Bowl" thread...:)

Right.

It would be different if we could land in one of the second-tier bowls - the Gator or the Citrus or even the Champs - and play another 9 win major-conference ranked team. That's probably what we deserve anyway. But we can't do that this year.

Given the choice between playing - and perhaps losing - on a big stage, and playing a 7-6 AAC bottom-dweller or a MAC team on Dec. 27, I see no reason not to hope for a BCS slot. If we win (and we'd have a shot against most of the teams we'd likely play), we've won a BCS bowl. Great. If we didn't, at least we tried. If we beat Rutgers in the Pinstripe, what does that accomplish? And if we lose? Christ.

But as Rudy said, one week at a time.

Dont get me wrong even though the BCS is better than the pinstripe, heart of dallas, or advocare bowls Ive still had a jollier offseason after winning the hawaii and sun bowls than I did when we lost the champs sports and sugar bowls. Im not going to cheer against a BCS bowl because a BCS bowl means we win out and our only two losses were agaisnt teams its respectable to lose to and we havent let a garbage team beat us like we have in years past. Just for me the feeling of winning a mid level bowl is greater than it was going to the Fiesta and Sugar bowls and getting curb stomped. But since a lot of people are predicting us to go to the Heart of Dallas Bowl and if we do go there I wont be able to watch the game at all so I guess ill take the BCS over having to follow the game via IE and Fox Sports scoreboard refreshing.

Edit: Question if we win a BCS bowl will the players get rings for winning that game. I know some schools get rings made for winning any bowl but I dont recall us getting any made for winning the Hawaii and Sun Bowls recently so if we were to win a BCS game would the players get some bling for their postseason win?

Beats the Motor City Bowl hands down. (Ah, Make that Little Ceasar's. No slight intended to your product. It's the venue not the menu.)

According to Sagarin's 11/9 Predictor Model, ND v Duke would be a pick'em.

pointsettia bowl on account I'm going regardless

Right now that's the worse matchup according to the various opponents I've seen projected in the sundry bowls.

According to Sagarin's 11/9 Predictor Model ND odds v the rumored:

+4 v Utah St
Pick'em v Duke
-5 v NIU
-5.5 v BC
-7.5 v Cinc
-12.5 v RU

I haven't looked at everybody's injury list but suspect we'd have more significant players mended in 6 or 7 weeks than most will.

Given a preference, I'd much rather beat BC.

sb nation has us against Iowa in the Heart of Dallas Bowl. Wouldn't be a bad thing to play down there again.

I'm still holding out hope that it's an ND-UC matchup.

I'm a UC fan, but I would love to rub an ND win in some of my friends' faces because UC fans are not great. And I would love to drop some knowledge-bombs on the IE community about the UC squad. I could give a killer scouting report.

Thought we already used our spot in the Sun bowl in 2010?

Anyway I really want the Pinstripe bowl so I can go to Yankee Stadium and see Notre Dame play. I missed the game against Army.

The Independence Bowl in Shreveport assumes that only 9 SEC teams will be bowl eligible (out of 14). That's definitely possible, but not necessarily in the bag.

Same. I had a ticket to the Army game and couldn't go.

ND will be so beat up due to injuries that it might be better to not to go to a bowl.

Hopefully we beat BYU to not be on a losing skid going into the bowl but at this point in the season all I want is a bowl win.

Edit: I know it's a good bowl game but I'd rather not go to the advocate v100 bowl just because it sounds like we can take more pride in winning the other bowl games. But damn I want to win one so bad.
