Seems like it'll be the Pinstripe Bowl.

Only 6 Big 12 teams will finish bowl eligible this season.

So, we can take the spot as the #7 Big 12 team.

Opponent will either be Cincinnati, Houston or Rutgers.

I'm so going to get tickets for the game. Please please please let it be Houston!

Bowl scenario I prefer? The one where we win. And convincingly.

Convincing win against a GOOD team, but that is only if ND is 8-4 at least, then the Irish get a chance to prove themselves, maybe.

Convincing wins against NIU do nothing for the program...and a loss could do IMMENSELY worse damage.

Heart of Dallas bowl wouldn't be a bad option since the big ten won't have enough teams bowl eligible

Agree, kind of, versus PinStripe.
Recruiting/geography = better.
New Years Day = better.
Playing North Texas instead of Rutgers = worse.

A good amount of local writers / talking heads in both the greater Cincinnati area and Kentucky have been talking about this. Cincinnati writers believe it will be UC vs ND, unless UC can win the conference (they need UCF to blow a game, and they need to beat Houston and Louisville in their last two games).

The Kentucky guys I follow believe that if UCF hangs on to win the conference, a deal will get done to put Bridgewater against ND in the Pinstripe even though Louisville should technichally chosen before that. Secret handshakes and all that jazz.

Disagree, unless it's a BCS game, nobody remembers what bowl game anyone else played in.

Playing in Dallas seems like a good option to me.
1.Good place for recruiting, and ND is getting more recruits from this lucrative area.
2.Odds weather is better in Dallas than in NYC.
3.While opponent(UNT) may not be greatest, can't control that.
4.Cotton Bowl is 20 minutes from the house.

It doesn't make much sense to go to Dallas again IMO

Sun Bowl 2011, ND haters (aka as every other CFB fan in the nation) were all up in arms because ND got to play MIA, at 7-5.

Basically, if ND EVERYONE cares what team(s) got screwed by ND...ESPECIALLY if it were a BCS game.

How many times have I heard that UGA was within 5 yards of winning the national title this year???

You got that right. Atleast the BIG has a meaningful game in the Rose Bowl. ND is all or nothing.

Question: is our lack of bowl options due to us using up our bowl appearances in recent years (champs sport bowl) or is it because of crap tie ins with the big east? Also, will we have more tie ins in future years since we are associated with the ACC?

What's the non BCS tie in for the BIG?

We're comparing apples and oranges here. We have a BCS tie in, and we blew it, so how does our bowls outside of that pair up with the BIG teams outside of their BCS berth team(s)?

Capitol One Bowl, which is a pretty decent matchup every Year.

In Eric Hansen's chat today, he mentioned that the bowl game in Shreveport in 1997 did not go very well and that ND administrators may shy away from that bowl. That was before I started watching college football, so could somebody tell me what he's referring to?

All I know is that ND played LSU in the Independence Bowl (now called AdvoCare V100 Bowl) in 1997, and we lost 27-9.

Yeah, but he talked about how the team was treated and general disorganization and I was curious about what happened. Another question I had, can redshirted players play in a bowl game without losing their redshirt status?

It was a rematch of a game that ND won in 1997, but they nearly lost because Davie had Jarious Jackson running around in the end zone, where he got tackled and messed up his knee, I believe?

ND won at ND by 18, so there was NO reason for Jackson to even be in the game!

A lot of things on the field did not go well for ND that bowl game.

Red shirts burn a year when they step on the field for one play anytime.

Thanks. do you know anything about the Shreveport incident?

I don't know anything, personally, but I imagine there were a lot of LSU faithful around since the bowl was in Shreveport, which could have been bad for any players/fans that ran into intoxicated or unruly LSU fans. I'm just speculating. That would be a reason I could see the administration not wanting to return. That, or if theres a lot of temptation to get in trouble in Shreveport.

The Jarious Jackson end zone fiasco was against LSU in 1998. I just know that cause I've got an old VHS of that game in my house lol. It was the game we couldn't stop Faulk to save our lives, and there were about ~10 missed FGs and EPs between the two teams. Then we had to play USC to end the year in 1998 with no QB.

No, I was at the '97 Baton Rouge game but not Shreveport. I seen games in all parts of the country and LSU fans by far are the worse. Some of them are falling down drunk by 10 am. At the Baton Rouge game I was "counseled" by the desk manager not to go to ANY bars if LSU lost. "You won't be looking for trouble but there are a lot of ugly jerks down here and you and/or your wife could be harmed." We got to the stadium in time to walk around but based on the rude reception and amount of puke in the road and walkeways we went to the ND tent and then into the stadium.

At the game we sat with the ND player's families and talked to some LSU fans sitting across the aisle at halftime. We were up something like 16-7 and two different LSU fans strongly suggested that we NOT visit any bars if LSU lost. "The mood will be ugly and so will be the behavior."

When the game ended, the ND players came over by our seats and we sang together. While we were singing, all the lights except the "FIRE" signs were turned off. It was somewhere between 5 and 10 minutes after the game ended. We exited with cigarette lighters leading the way. (There were no LED Light Phone Apps bank then.) Several people stumbled and fell as we exited. Bumps and bruises but no serious injuries. That was a shame as a broken arm or leg would have brought $$$$ in a lawsuit.

There were some nice fans but an awful lot of drunken jerks. We got to the rental car without incident and went back to the hotel. The desk manager congratulated us on a "solid win". The hotel bar was uneventful, fortunately.

I'll not go back. My wife's relatives from both Auburn and Alabama won't go to Baton Rouge either.

I read somehwere that we may go to the BBVA compass bowl. Its a jan bowl which would be cool but we would be playing a mid-major school in a bowl game that has no one will take seriously because it is sponsored by a compass company. Still Jan 5th would allow a long time for the coaches to watch film and scheme and hopefully come up with a good gameplan for our boys to bring it home.

It was the game we couldn't stop Faulk to save our lives, and there were about ~10 missed FGs and EPs between the two teams. Then we had to play USC to end the year in 1998 with no QB.

^ Jarious was QB in '98 and got hurt when he got tackled in the endzone injuring a knee. The next game was in L.A. and after the game. Jarious was apologizing to to everyone in ear shot. I asked why he was apologizing when he hadn't even suited up for the SC loss. He said he was supposed to go back to the endline and wait for someone to get close before stepping out of bounds over the endline. It didn't help that the TE (O'Leary?) whiffed on his block cutting off the field sideline as a place to retreat and chew up some clock. Instead he improvised and tried to get a few more ticks of the clock by running in the endzone on the short side. He got tackled and injured.

ND started Eric Chappell against SC and he played worse than Dillingham a few years later. Arnaz Battle was put in at QB and and wasn't any better as a passer. He did make a couple of running plays but fumbled the ball at the SC goal line for a turnover. ND lost 10-0.

In '97 Ron Powlus was ND's QB. In the first game in Baton Rouge ND won by 3 TDs in Davie's Signature Game. ND didn't commit a turnover or a penalty. It was a Clean Game.

In Shreveport Kevin Faulk LSU's star TB twisted an ankle early in the game. I wasn't there, watched it on TV. His backup Rondell Mealey ran for about 30 yds in the first half but ran for about 200 in the second half and a couple of TDs. One of his TDS was 70 yds or so and came about when Jarvis Edison was supposed to line up at RDE but lined up at LDE, NEXT to the real LDE. Don't know if it was an audible or Mealey's vision but he run right through "the missing man formantion" for a TD.

Meanwhile ND who dominate on both side of the ball in Baton Rouge was shutdown in Shreveport. Powlus was held to under 75 yds and the running game wasn't successful either. ND got 3 FGs. This was a huge surprise as LSU's D.C. had resigned to take a job at Texas and his replacement only had a week or so to get a game plan together. He still outsmarted Colletto.

Actually BBVA is a large banking firm that acquired Compass Bank which used to sponsor the game.

This is my choice as I live about 20 minutes from Legion Field. I would go there. Vandy would be solid competition.
