I love seeing ND going from the CanOCorn bowl to now being projected into the Cotton Bowl, THe Orange Bowl vs Clemson and the Fiesta Bowl vs Oregon or Marshall, to the Rose Bowl playing MSU in a Playoff Game or in the Sugar Bowl to play Auburn.

Beat FSU and shit is getting real.

Agree. If no Playoff, I want the Cotton Bowl.

Marshall will make things interesting for the playoffs. They are probably going to go undefeated, but dang... they don't play a single game against an even mediocre opponent. Not one.

Which goes to show you, if we schedule just one down year stretch, this is how we'll be viewed.

Although the lore and luster that is ND is present.

ECU is the highest NON group of 5 team has played some "ok" P5 teams. That "New Year's Six" Birth is probably going to them.

I didn't know we had eligibility for the cotton bowl? I thought we had our two orange bowl bids then it was playoffs or bust when it comes to getting a January bowl game. Not knocking the pinstripe, sun, or the other ACC games we can get invited to but I just always thought that we still had the limited options if we didn't make the playoffs.

I think we should pump the breaks right there honestly...

Ha... Why, he's right. If we beat the #1 team in the country, in their place, to go 7-0 with USC being our toughest opponent left... Then shit is officially real.

Just posting out loud... I get that, I'm just of the mindset of 'let's get there first'

The Cotton Bowl if an option down the road this season would be sweet. There is plenty of Irish history in that particular bowl game...

ND v Texas '70, '71 & '78 (first bowl game after 40+ years... couple of Nat'l Champ implication games in that mix)
ND v Houston '79 (Chicken Soup game)
ND v Texas A&M '93 & '94

The bowl site now is in Cowboys/AT&T Stadium and it's an awesome place for a game. I was there for the Arizona State Shamrock Series game at that stadium.

Annnd being a little selfish... it's right up the road from me.

We have to play @ASU, who just beat USC so there's that too.

I was already a fan, the 89 Miami game made me, but these two games were massive for me as well...

We have to play @ASU, who just beat USC so there's that too.

ASU doesn't have a defense or ST, and with the way our defense is playing, we match up very well against their offense. I'm less worried about that game with each passing week.

The 88 Cotton Bowl was one of the first games that made my blood boil. A&M was killing ND, and on one play Tim Brown got laid out, while the d-bag defender ripped TB's towel off his waist and danced around with it. Anybody else remember that?

Take care of your biz, and good things will happen. Long way to go yet, and there are some tough games ahead. But it was worth sitting in the cold drizzle Saturday to see that D play like they did, and for the Offense to do what had to be done at the end.

I do think we will beat them (especially since I will be there), but it's not crazy to think they will get their shit together in the next month considering they do have talent. And if we did beat FSU, we would likely come into that game as the #1 team. As we all know, teams and fans are always hyped for the chance to take down Goliath.

You guys should only be worried about who your opponent will be in the Sugar Bowl. It's like you are throwing in the towel and settling for conversation about your Cotton Bowl opponent. As your now large donor Bon Jovi sings... Keep the Faith.

I've read about that game plenty but have never watched it and wasn't an Irish fan yet...

Yes, I believe it was on a kick return. The A&M 12th Man kick off team besides the kicker was made up of student walk-on players. They made a big hit and then yanked the towel off as a "trophy" since he was the Heisman Trophy winner.

I agree with the rest of your comment, but ASU's situation is significantly different than, say, Stanford. Offensively, the Cardinal has the ingredients--at least on paper--to enjoy the same sort of smash-mouth run game that they've utilized successfully over the last several seasons. That's a good example of "if they get their sh!t together, look out".

ASU lost 9 of 11 starters on defense from last year; which is an insane level of turn-over. They're 78th against the run and 79th against the pass. And their lack of quality defensive depth has predictably hurt their ST as well, where they're only ranked 71st. Point being, I don't see ASU "getting its sh!t together" on defense and ST this season, because they simply don't have the necessary pieces to be competitive in those areas.

If they're going to win, it'll be in a shoot-out. And to be fair, Bercovici has been very impressive, and Graham's offense is explosive. But our defense is tailor-made to terrorize a spread like Graham's, and we're playing lights out at the moment. So unless something major changes between now and then (knock on wood), I'm very confident we'll win comfortably.
