Chip Kelly would be an awful fit at ND.

Oh I agree. Not a huge fan of Stoops for us either. But both are the kind of big-name coaches who a lot of people could see at Notre Dame, adding to the chorus of "Why are we keeping BK around when we could hire him!"

Gov. Mary Fallin can't run again in 2018. She was a vice-chair of the Trump transition team.

Stoops is 57 years old, that playa ain't retiring for good. He's taking the year off, hanging out in his new crib and waiting for either/both the ND or Bears job to open up.

Bob Stoops Retiring

Anybody go to the Shag to see what their feelings are about this? I'm sure Sooner nation is still reveling in their 400 pound softball pitcher's big win, and haven't even noticed yet.

Obviously just setting up his move to ND a la Urban at Florida.

He's taking over after BK is fired this year.

That's exactly what people on the Shag were saying too

Their thread is already up to 8 pages, some good stuff over there: Stoops Reitring

And your 2019 OU football coach will be......

Les "Hat Trick Dicky" Miles

Even a Les Miles offense could score on those porous Big 12 defenses

I could see Lane having a decent year at FAU and getting the job instead. I mean, it's C-USA. He becomes the talk of college football again, and OU decides to bring in a younger Kiffin over an aging Miles...'cause Big 12 and offense.

Give me Urban, or give me death!

How would you like your death? Ain't happenin'.

I already mentioned a bit above, but there are mixed reactions. Everything from Wizard of Oz gifs "Ding dong the witch is dead," to remorse that Herman won't get a chance to beat Stoops again (At his previous stop of course).

Being reported that Stoops resignation did not surprise anyone who knew him. He's been thinking about this for awhile. His dad died of a heart attack while coaching a HS game and he's always thought about that. People who know him think he's done coaching for good.

I'm pretty sure they said the same thing verbatim about Urban.

The personality of a head coach in cfb is not one to sit around drinking tea with their wives. It's not in em. The reality is that things have been icy for several years between Stoops, administrators and the fans. Maybe that's a coincidence? Who knows.

Actually it was the opposite with Urban. He claimed a medical issue but the fact of the matter was he and Jeremy Foley did not get along. Everyone and their brother knew he'd be back in a year. Stoops has worked for the same school President and AD his entire 18 years and there were no issues between them. One of the reasons he always rejected other opportunities was because of his stable relationship with those two.

Watch the alma mater rush to Chicago when they finish 5th in the B1G-W this year. Bet he could get $7.5m out of the Hawkeyes

And bring the prodigal son (Diaco) back to run the D. That would be something to see.

NO, quite the opposite. Stoops has no issues with the AD that he has worked for 18 years. In fact he's planning to remain at the University in a new role.

That's not what rumors say. Their fans have been saying that he's been at odds for years. For testing the market (ironically with ND), how he handled Mixon, etc. There was a lot of smoke that he felt that they were throwing him under the bus in that situation.

This isn't my opinion. Go take a gander over at old threads on the The Shag. Hell... go check out The Shag just cuz its awesome.

Yes because fans on a message boards are always a convincing way to get to the truth. LOL. Sometimes it is what it is. Tired of the grind. Jimmy Johnson quit coaching at the very same age because he was just tired of it. Not every coach is a lifer. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Isn't Oklahoma's AD widely regarded as one of the best and most stable in the business? I don't follow Okie that closely but hard to believe he and Stoops aren't basically joined at the hip.
Also, the Mixon episode got bad press nationally but is of a pattern with how Stoops operated there for a long time, presumably with the university's OK. He took in Dorial Green Beckham after Mizzou booted him for various drug and woman-beating episodes, and signed other recruits various programs - including Notre Dame - wouldn't touch. If Mixon was the last straw, that'd be a change of course.
And it's not like they haven't been winning.
So yeah, I'd suspect the guy's just tired of the grind and needs a break.

To each their own, you can have your opinion if you want. Just saying that if people would have listened to UF message boards after Urban left, then they would have known then too. The entire Stoops family is rich in coaching legacy. They are competitive and frankly Stoops just wore out his welcome in OU. It happens. But whether he meant it or he didn't, of course he is going to say he's done. It's the respectful thing to do.

Lol I'm sure he appreciates the permission to his own opinion

Pretty common expression. I guess another way to say it would be "agree to disagree".

Sheesh... some of you wait on baited breath to find something to nitpick me about. I get into an argument, I'm "tough guy Wooly". If I try to be polite in debate, I'm "playing a victim" or in this case apparently telling others how to think. I can't win with some of you. smh
